@@Munchticles In the Western tradition pointing with a thumb is never about giving directions. Even if you look at Google's "international" emojis you see thumbs up and thumbs down for various things. The only time it's sort of for directions is when a hitchhiker is asking for a rider or "thumbing a ride" they face the cars coming and point their thumb in the direction of travel. But that's probably just easier to use the thumb to point behind you while walking backwards.

Local Indonesia language is not a "dialect". Local language is THE LANGUAGE. Indonesia has 700+ different local languages.
Languages have their own characteristics that meet the requirements of language:
    *) symbolic representation
    *) grammar and syntax
*) semantics. example: Javanese language using Hanacaraka
*) pragmatics. example: Javanese language which is divided into ngoko, madya, kromo inggil based on politeness
    *) variability including dialect.
examples of Javanese language have dialect:
    # Kulonan (Ngapak) dialect family -> Serang dialect, Indramayu, Cirebon, Brebes, Banyumasan dialect
    # Kulon-tengahan dialect family -> Pekalongan dialect, Kedu dialect
    # Mataram dialect family -> Semarangan, Muria, Aneman, Solo-Jogja, Mataraman dialects
    # Wetanan dialect -> Arekan (Suroboyoan) dialect, Tengger dialect Osing, Pandhalungan dialect (mixed with DIFFERENT Madurese languages)
    # Mancadwipa dialect (outside Java Island) -> Suriname dialect, New Caledonia dialect, Aneuk Jaloe (Aceh), North Sumatra Trans, South Sumatra, Merauke
see, 1 JAVANESE LANGUAGE has more than 10 dialects
Indonesian study Local language in school too as formal education different language each region. We study it in elementary school, middle school, and high school.
If they wanna master it, they Will study it in University. Example for Javanese language you can find it in University of Semarang, University of Indonesia, University of Surabaya, Gajah Mada university etc
If you wanna learn other language like Sundanese you can find it in University of Padjajaran, University Pendidikan Indonesia.
Balinese language in Udayana university etc

yea it's not a dialect but rather how we use it on daily conversation.
'Dialect' and 'Accent' are often interchangeable on daily use (doesn't mean it's correct but how we use it), and in this context, Genesia ISN'T SUGGESTING the local language Is equivalent to a dialect. Instead, she highlights how Indonesian language has been influenced by locals and somehow creating a distinct dialect on the Indonesian language.
dw, chances are the people who really need to know these distinction are the ones who move to Indonesia, starting to notice the differences, or language students.

      What tribes you're belongs to?
      What is your Religion?

      Where are you're living at?
      Where's your places?
Even tho i'm unemploye and now doing non informal job sector if i can go and live outside of my country and can get a job even it's manual labor and people says it's dirty job or whatever i will choose live there rather living in this hell country

In Kuta, Bali, which is tourist destination, it is okay to wear swimsuit in the city. However, do not approach holy sites such as temples, nosques, or church.
In Jakarta, wearing swimsuit on pubpic street would be considered as sign of mental issue. In Yogyakarta, however, it would be considered as rude.
Using finger to point something is actually fine except for Javanese -- which is unfortunately the majority ethnic.
Touching the head is really taboo in Bali. That's why some Balinese hate Javanese culture, "salim", where the young kids kiss the hands of respected adults (e.g. parents, teacher, etc.).
Gambling is illegal. However, religious gambling is tolerates by law. An example of religious gambling: gambling session to collect donation money to help religious event for temples. Of course, this gambling session needs permit from authority and no outsiders is allowed to take part in it.
Porn is illegal. So although we are actually silently consumpt porn, never ever watch it in public places.

@@bellaoktaviantini watching porn is legal. Watching your porn collection in public is considered as distributing porn material which is illegal. Breaking blocking to access porn is actually illegal and punishible by prison to 6 years.
You have to differentiate between illegal and the laziness of authority to uphold the law and whether the law. Some law in Indonesia is complaint based (delik aduan). Which means despite that using VPN to watch porn is illegal, as long as nobody complaint to police, you'll be safe.

Javanese is a language not just a dialect. it has grammatical structure, it has its own vocabulary, it even has its own alphabet (aksara jawa). so does Sundanese (Bahasa Sunda and Aksara Sunda), Bataknese, and 700+ others. we have 718 local LANGUAGE (Bahasa Daerah) total not just dialects.

I live in part of East Java (Indonesia), I'll try explain a bit about "touching someone's head", at least based on where I lived.
*The reason why it's becomes "taboo" was because*
    1. Head (brain) is the most important of humans body, because thoughts, ideas, or basically everything came from it, so touching someone's head you didn't know, or without permission, or hitting it too hard is considered as very disrespect. That's why it changes from "allowed" to "forbidden". But it still depends on the person itself.
    2. Most of Indonesian are muslim, in Islam, touching (caress) childrens head considered as a good deed especially if they are poor or orphans (you can Google it), it a sign of showing empathy, love dan care. The reason why it's "changes" was because it's become a habit, people touching newborn babies head that are still soft and not fully develop, parents are worried it will damage the head (brain), so people start saying "don't touch the head" over time, and somehow now it's like a "taboo" thing to do.

As Indonesian (who was raised in two different cultures, Javanese and north sumatran) myself, I could confirm that most of those cultural things are Javanese's (central, east, or special region of Jogja) especially the raising voice things. But walking in bikini outside the beach or swimming pool area, PDA things, watching porn, and gambling, that's all because Indonesians are conservative (not religious), which we live strictly under unwritten norms.
But she is so great at explaining it all, good job

Indonesia is a wonderful country, it just needs to return to Austronesian customs and habits, ancient indigenous eskimos, and such a beautiful country has to allow itself more affection and affection between people in public, it's beautiful people.
The good side of Indonesia is positive and that it fights corruption and organized crime head on, this aspect of it may God preserve and in this it never changes, other aspects it has to humanize and evolve for the good and loved by many Austronesian and non-Austronesian peoples .

Dude if there's one thing the entire world should take from indonesia it's the illegal gambling. Apart from the 0,0001% occasion, it's literally DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU LOSE. It's addictive, potentially destructive to your existence and leads to higher suicide rates. But hey money, so it'll never go away.

Problem with that is Indonesia still has a gambling problem. Its not very well enforced just like pornography laws. Sure, there's no Casinos but there are still gambling rings, both in physical places and online. Not mention that people still place bets for rooster fighting, bull racing, football (The one with the round ball, not the one with the oval ball), and many other examples.

My school in Australia taught basic Indonesian, they did warn us about the no-left-hand rule. Also that you can't squeeze to shake hands in Indonesia, they do the "fish handshake". Australians who go over to Indonesia often think it's "macho" to squeeze hands tightly and even manhandle people or push them. They find out very quickly that Indonesia is not going to tolerate that.

I don'think so. The taboo exist in any religion community in Indonesia even where Muslim are minorities. It is most likely caused by we eat with our hand. So we wipe our ass with our left hand and eat the food with our right hand.
