  • Going over my experience with the hennessy hyperlite and the changes I've made to my sleep system since I got into hammock backpacking. Sorry for the poor production quality, my wife shot this on my Galaxy S8. Feel free to skip around, I talk about storage, suspension, insulation, and the hex tarp. Shout out to all the great channels that I've learned from.

    Thanks for the suggestion of the Becket Hitch and pointing out the proper and improper way of tying it.

    One mod I've made is to tie piece of cord about a yard long to the zipper at the foot end of the hammock and tie the other end loosely to the ridgeline of the hammock. That way, if when you get into the hammock, if the bottom zip is way out of reach, you just grab the length of cord and pull that until you can get hold of the foot end zipper to close it up

    I really enjoyed this. You have a gift for explaining stuff. First video I watched that described how under quilts are fitted. Thanks.

    Now that is an incredibly informative video. Great summary of your system and your thought behind it.

    Really like the idea of sewing a fleece blanket to the reflective pad. When mine arrives, I'll certainly be doing that. Should help soak up any condensation as well that might occur, I would think. Thanks

    Nice job...keep looking at this hammock and the warbonnet

      Warbonnet is a great hammock! The hyperlite is more bare bones, but a tad lighter. The Hennessy system with the tarp is one of the best values in hammy camping, so if you're on a budget/the fence go with that!!

      Thanks! This was 5 years ago and I'm still using this hammock, underquilt, and suspension set up, along with others but this is still my go to set up. I hiked the whole Appalachian trail with it. I have switched to a dyneema tarp for weight saving and more coverage.

    Seems like is would take a long time to set up in the rain. I'm new to hammocking but I've attached my tarp to the hammock so it comes out of the sack all together. I attach it to the trees with a caribiner and two "O" rings... very fast. Then anchor down the tarp strings, toss in my pad and sleeping bag and ... done. There must be things I could improve but I'm not good at all the fancy knots.

    Try a rug pad from Home Depot or WalMart to keep the pad from slipping around in your hammock. Just need about 2ft x 3ft piece.

      Thanks, shooting on my phone in long takes was fun and different! UQ is a great option for the price and weight. SHARE AWAY and i"m trying to shoot some trips but we will see!

      Also, you know from IG I have the warbonnet superfly so that's been my go to. I'll perhaps do a video on that.

    Nice system. The Hyperlite looks to short for someone taller like me. Also, do they have a double layered hammock that would allow putting the reflective sleeping pad between the two hammock layers, thus securing the mat?? Also, what about having a privacy vestibule that could swap out with the bug net?? That might be cool.. Anyway, keep hanging! Or 'Hang in there' ..

    Consider soft shackles on the tree end of the straps

    Thanks for the Subscribe to my channel. I enjoyed your video and hammock setup. Wish now i would have gone with a zip instead of classic entry on my Hennessy. Thanks for sharing

      I was intrigued by the classic style when i did my research, from the research i did it seems its great for the jungle. The UQ thing is not cool tho!!! Like i said, I've slept fine in a doublenest but im a tiny dude. Good luck with choosing a hammy!!!

    What did you do to the ends of the hammock for what youre referring to as a continuous loop? mine has a sort of wrap around it and goes to a pretty long cord.

    What tarp is used in this video?

    • @torktastic521
      @torktastic521  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the Hennessy hex fly. Decent tarp for the money, just gotta pitch super tight/perfect in bad and windy weather. My favorite bad weather tarp is the warbonnet superfly. Also love my hammock gear DCF tarp with doors. Check out my other channel flopflipped_at for some videos with those tarps!

    Soft eye, not a becket, therefore not a becket hitch. Slippery single sheetbend.

    Hey mate. I am 6'1-2" will I fit?

    • @torktastic521
      @torktastic521  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will work but my guess is being over 6', an 11' hammock would be the ticket for maximum comfort. I think the hyperlite is 10.5'
