  • I've not used circle until a couple of sessions ago, and this is the first time I've had a pike run, it's a learning curve.

I only use head halves personally mate and I lip hook it on a 3/0 or 4/0 circle, I have as much of the hook out as possible, obviously different baits and casting distances change that a bit but I honestly haven’t had any change in hook up rates from trebles, I e been doing it for a year now and nothing tempts me about going back to trebles, only thing I’d say is I genuinely do wind down on the fish within probably 5 seconds of the very first indication just because my baits being head hooked I can’t take any risks, oh and I use small baits personally, so I’m pretty certain the bait is almost always fully in the mouth straight away , good luck bud! 👍

A wise decision Phil using circle hooks, wjth your parkinsons,it'll aid easier unhooking for you. Not fished that spot since last year.Found a really good spot on bridgie never blanked on this new location..Good luck,i'm sure you'll master the circle hooks soon...

it's good to see someone using circle hooks! possibly... you might want to up your hook size and just hook the bait (that size you're using, i'd try a 5/0) in the wrist of the tail. also, i use a non offset circle hook... less likely to hook anywhere other than the scissors, plus i de-barb it too, you don't need a barb. Like me, you want the unhooking processes to be easy.
i sometimes use a horizontally hooked bait but i do loose a few more fish than tail hooked baits.
      Good luck!

Fancied something a bit different I used to fish for like all the time in winter, but with the od tremor I stopped, these circle hooks make it easier well I dint even land em unhook then in the water lol
