There was clearly some attraction between them, but it was the end, and they were so humble about it and I just loved it. I think their death scene was just absolutely perfect.
A hug works better in that scenario, getting comfort from one another right before you die. A kiss would have felt forced to me, and taken me out of the moment.

I remember some people complaining about the music during the Star Destroyer crashing part, saying it was too “happy.” But I think they were missing the point that it was a small moment of triumph in the battle. I sometimes think Star Wars fans want everything to be the most obvious rock opera type soundtrack, which don’t get me wrong, has its place, but interesting music cues like that are what become memorable over time, not the generic film score stuff
I love that Baze and Chirrut flip what you'd expect from "the heavy weapons guy" and "the wise monk" - you'd think Chirrut would be exasperated by his comrade throwing himself into battle, but it's the other way round.
My mom never watched anything Star Wars. (Yes, she doesn't yet know about Luke's father...) This is the first thing that we watched together and it's a testament to the movie that she was totally hooked while having zero backstory.
Rogue One is a great SW movie. Orson Krennic's character was so personable for an imperial. You could feel his frustration every time he was given another political or mission hurdle to overcome from either Tarkin or Vader

Even not knowing what led Cassian before or knowing much of the characters, I loved it because it reminded me of A new hope where there’s characters for the first time not known but is in danger and fighting for hope to destroy a greater evil
After the prequels I really got the understanding that fans can be fixated on lightsaber fights way too much. Rogue One really knocked it out of the park by focusing on the rebels struggle with the underdogs taking the lead.
Two of my iconic moments from Rogue One were: 1) The trailer showing Jynn Erso in her black imperial disguise in front of the sequentially illuminating lights which wasn't utilized in the movie 2) the Vader hallway scene which was not originally planned or scheduled by the director but was more or less a last-minute addition to the film.... that hinted at what Darth Vader / Anakin had become.... a monster.
I remember coming out of the cinema and couldn't stop crying, even if knew most of the character will die, but all that death and destruction was something I never thought of seeing in Star Wars. I love this dark style and hope we see that again, but still in a mix with the more light Star Wars-charme.
My favorite moments in rogue one: 1. Stormtroopers for once portrayed as highly trained military combatants (especially on battle of Scarif) 2. The crashing of 2 star destroyers 3. The rivalry between Krennic and Tarkin 4. The iconic Vader hallway scene 5. Baz shooting a rocket launcher on the head of the AT-AT 6. Literally every scene of K2SO 7. Chirrut’s “Are you kidding me, I’m blind” line
The little moment when a more grand version of Leia's theme is playing and Jyn and Cassian are on the elevator after sending the death star plans is my favorite scene in the film. Jyn has been doubted by almost everyone she ever met and Cassian always gave her the benefit of the doubt. Willing to die for her and her cause is admirable than people let on.
24:40 the Blue Squadron 'Hero' shot as you call it...I've always said it looked like it would be appropriate for a modern day celebration of 'Battle of Britain Day' over London with the 'period era warbirds' doing a flyby.
When Bodhi responded "ugh Rogue one" i remember thinking, oh so thats how they come up with Rogue Squadron in new canon. I thought it was cool that for once, something in the movies explained something from the books and comics instead of the other way around
Well, not exactly, as Rogue Squadron originated in "The Empire Strikes Back," but yes it was expanded upon much more in the supplemental material in both the old canon and new. I also agree that it was an awesome to retcon the etymology of the unit name. I also like to think that the call sign "Rogue One" is unofficially retired like a retired uniform number for a sports team, as the first Rogue pilot always has the Rogue Leader call sign instead, despite being far from the only Rebel fighter squadron to do that.
I think the Vader scene at the end works so well because she have Never seen him being the Unstoppable Juggernaut of Death for the Empire on the big screen. In the movies we are TOLD he is a threat but never see just how much until Rogue One. Great video as always.
When I watch Rogué One, I felt like a kid again. I Saw myself in the movie theater rushing to find a seat with My brother and My dad hoping to see luke again in The Empire strikes back. What a ride! Rogué One is raw, knee deep in the mud, Platoon storytelling. A blast!
R1 IMO is the best of the Disney theatrical films. So much to love from the characters to the cinematography to the characters and action. Has the best space battle since Endor and did a great job in reminding just how terrifying the Empire can be.
💯Loved the score throughout the entire film. My favorite moment is Admiral Raddick watching the Death Star’s destructive power for the first time. I think I was more blown away than he was.
God the Scariff battle, both space and ground, is my favorite battle in star wars. It feels like something from one of the novels. There's a flow to it with plans and tactics. It's not just random shooting or random ships flying around aimlessly
i don't know why , but my favourite fun fact about the movie is that the star destroyer floating over jehda city is the same one you protect in the battlefront 2 campaign. also, nice fakeout
Wow this really makes me wanna rewatch rogue one. I said I was gonna leave it until I'd read the novelisation since I read the other three tie in novels a while ago but then never got round to it.
When I saw how the Holy City was built into the rock, it immediately reminded me of Edinburgh Castle. If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about.
I love Draven, and I love the little hints of his connection and camaraderie with Mon Mothma, and I love even more that the novelization gave more depth into their relationship and Draven’s perspective of how he sees the world and the rebellion. I really hope he pops up in Andor.
IMHO, this movie and the Andor series, have been the more interesting things in a long time in the Star Wars Universe. I love (most of) the new movies, but the stakes are SO MUCH HIGHER when you are starting a revolution. The risks that everyone takes, the small acts of deffiance, the politics, everything is on a different scale, it's not about a wizard messiah with the power to save the universe by himself, it's real people with fears and hopes, risking their lifes and the ones of their families
I'm gonna be a contrarian here: I don't care about the Vader hallway scene. But the rest of the movie was very good to me. I always hoped we could see the new characters again, specially Baze and Chirrut, but I'm glad we got a prequel story of Cassian.
I love how they showed the power of the Death Star in the perspective of the people on the ground. The sheer force of destruction and fear is something we haven't seen during the OG and sequels. They just blew up the planets and that was it.
I've been a star wars fan since I was a kid, but after rouge one came out someone asked me what my favourite quote was from the franchise and honestly I didn't have one, not until we got "I've been in this fight since I was 6 years old" from Cassian, it hit me on so many levels, I was first shown star wars when I was 6 and it's themes of light vs dark, fighting for the freedom of others and that there's always hope. Hope has given me the strength to keep going through not only some of the toughest times in my life with the acceptance of my sexuality whilst also in coping with depression and suicide, but also to keep hope alive in my partner in his battles with depression and anxiety. It's the only quote I've considered getting as a tattoo probably paired with a starbird.
1 I love how Krennic had that "oh poodoo" moment when the Death Star appeared. He knew his Porg was well & truly cooked. 2 Andor not wanting know the chances of failure or Jyn using a blaster against him was a subtle call-forward to Han never wanting to be told the odds. 3 Chirrut was my favourite character. Using the Force of Others, he was able to eliminate a squad of Troopers with little more than a bowstaff and take down a TIE with a light bow. It's too bad that "Solo" wasn't 50% as good as R1. I wanted more Imperial backstory, more Darth Maul, and less Woody. But that's just my 2 Credits.
I love Chirrut's line "I fear nothing, for all is as the force wills it." I love Jyn's line "May the force be with us." I love the scene from the trailer when Jyn found herself face to face with a tie fighter, but I hate that it wasn't in the movie.
I love how the director is the one to pull the handle to release the Tantive (Tan-ta-vee ;) 4 and put a New Hope in motion. Additionally...if you have good subwoofers...crank the first step of the AT-AT...Eargasm...
I went to the Cinema 4 times to see it, including an entended work lunchbreak! My favourite SW movie by far. The flashy Jedi are cool but getting to know the underbelly of the galaxy is also very cool.
I always took Chirrup blowing on his hand as him warming it up. I bet with it being wet it might have been cold too. I have been shooting while its cold and you want blood flowing to your fingers for that 🙂
At the very beginning of the movie, we are in space and look up at an asteroid belt. Before I figured out it was an asteroid belt it always looked to me like the scrolling text at the opening of A New Hope, as if we are looking at the text from the underside. I still believe that was intentional- to subtly indicate that this story is the story behind the opening Star Wars text. It shows the rebels and their first victory against the Empire and how they stole the secret plans mentioned in the text. Very fun and clever and not something I have heard anyone else mention.
4:15 those glass panes are the base's sensor systems used in similar fashion to an airport's radar systems. They keep track of all starships and fighters coming in and out of the Yavin system. You can find a bigger explanation in the 1997 Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology by Bill Smith.
I love the fact that the rowdy, punk rock, rebellion-in-the-streets movie no one expected to be the best of all eleven films turned out to be exactly that. The fight against evil fascism has always, always, always been the core ethos of Star Wars. No movie brings it to life better than Rogue One.
11:42 I always loved that little comparison between Tarkin and Krennic in terms of their leadership capabilities. Krennic simply, yet aggressively barks his orders. Another good example of that being the "Are we blind?!" line on Scarif. Meanwhile, Tarkin is more smooth and elegant in a way with his delivery. It's almost like a younger brother desperately striving for admiration and attention, while the elder brother knows exactly what to do in order to obtain it. It's a good comparison between two rivaling, high ranking Imperials
I'll be honest, the only Death Trooper appearance I was really disappointed by was that one episode in Rebels with the massive kyber crystal. Even their other appearances in Rebels I can remember seemed menacing.
Death Troopers are my all time favorite Trooper design! Rogue One is my least fav SW movie yet I’m still most excited for Andor than I have been for any Star Wars project since Visions!
Bor Gullet should be in this, it was a weird choice, but it's an actual interesting idea, that expands further on the long list of Star Wars-Creatures.
My favorite moments, the entire movie! Am I crying, yeah I am and I’m not ashamed, it’s freaking beautiful! You had me at the fake ending haha I didn’t actually think you would leave out Vader but maybe doing a special video on just that idk but that was fun.
He blows into his hand because its cold and rainy and he needs to aim accurately so doesn't want his hand to lock up from the cold. At least that's how I always interpreted it.
Rogue One and Solo are a tied 2nd for best Star Wars movie since 2015 (1st is The Last Jedi obviously) there's so many great moments in Rogue One and while the film isn't perfect, mainly in the writing and story department (too many characters resulting in everyone getting shafted which is kinda impressive tbh) Which is why I'm super excited for Andor because it'll give us the chance to get to know Cassian even better and I assume expand the surroundings of Rogue One in general.
3:27 It;s always the little things in Star Wars. Empire wouldn't have fallen if some guy in shield generator hadn't gotten overeager and opened the door without verifying the situation. 16:39 I think he was yawning. That or he was warming his hand up.
I still don't like that the Tantive IV was even at Scariff. To me Vader should have gotten to the control room just in time to see where the transmission was being sent as Leia was already on her way to get Obi Wan Kenobi... who she doesn't know. My favorite moment is Jyn's escape on Wobani. She doesn't know who wants her but she doesn't care, kicks some ass and makes a break for it only to be immediately grabbed by K2S0 and thrown to the ground, knocking the wind out of her and K2's response was gold.
Hi Alex, I raised this question before but I don’t know if you’ve answered it. It’s great that the bad batch clarified what Project War Mantle is, but here’s the thing, according to K2SO War Mantle, as well as other project code names Jyn read out were in the “schematic bank, data tower 2, structural engineering” within the Scarif archive. I don’t know if anyone else noticed it but clearly phasing out clone troopers does not belong to any type of engineering projects.
Rogue One was not perfect. However it was obvious Disney put some genuine effort into it. Good story, plus fan service, plus new content, plus a story that tells a story. PS...I loved Tarkins CGI. PPS...Forest Whitaker is a fantastic actor. Clearly he had a small role, yet he was memorable. . He is like Brando. He takes something small and makes it better.
Dude, maybe it was because it was a packed theater and it was the first showing of the day, which means the A/C didn't get turned on right away, but I was sweating by the end of this movie back in 2016. They did such a great job at amping the tension in this movie, and despite knowing that the retrieval of the plans was going to be a success, the journey of making it happen and not knowing what was going to happen next that almost didn't let A New Hope happen was so well done. It's one of the best movies to come from Star Wars since the Disney acquisition. There are a few things I don't love, I can do without Ponda Baba and Evezan, R2 and 3PO's cameo should have been saved for Leia's scene (Like, have a guy give the chip to 3PO and then have him ask Leia what it is if he really must be the focus of a shot.), and I don't need the names of places in the corner if you have literally just told me where the gang was going next, but since you did it for every other planet, why not Mustafar? I know, they wanted to keep it a mystery, but then you might as well not done it for any of the other locations. It's like saying @-@ when you can't do that with any of the other AT vehicles. I demand consistency. But you know, everything else is pretty great. It's what the Sequels should have strived for when it came to making them feel part of the same universe. Just little connections without being a big fuss. This had Prequels, Clone Wars, Rebels, and Original Trilogy stuff littered everywhere amongst all the new stuff, too. That's how it should be done, that's how fan service works. I've heard people say that Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie, and I don't know if I would go that far (It's obviously Return of the Jedi) only because what helps make it so enjoyable is that it has context from all the other stuff that came before so you can appreciate those fan service moments, but it is pretty spectacular and I'm sure that since most of that fan service is well done, it doesn't hinder the movie for people that don't know.
I went to the midnight premiere and it was like 2 am when the movie ended and me and everyone else in the theater stand up and started clapping and the first thing I did after coming home from the theater was to put Netflix and watch A New Hope.
He most likely meant that Cassian feels a lot of repressed guilt over many dark decisions he had to take throughout his life. Be it for his personal survival, or in the name of the Rebel Alliance.
OMG Alex! To end a half hour breakdown of the movie and just mention the Vader ship scene being cool and NOT the fact that this was the first time we saw live action full-fledge bad A&$ Vader mow down rebels…..just cruel….you have some dark side in you! ❤ 😈
I love the fact that Cassian and Jyn didn’t kiss at the end, because in that scene it seemed obvious that they would but just the hug was perfection

EXCELLENT analysis 👏
The fake out at the end had me. Well sold. I really thought you were ending the video.
I'll be honest, the only Death Trooper appearance I was really disappointed by was that one episode in Rebels with the massive kyber crystal. Even their other appearances in Rebels I can remember seemed menacing.
Why does everyone see "fan service" as a bad thing? I want to see all these things in Star Wars! Bring it on!
Brilliant commentary. Thanks for the video
This film is the Dirty Dozen of Star Wars films and is without doubt my favourite, of the newer films. Can't wait for the TV show.
Death Troopers are my all time favorite Trooper design! Rogue One is my least fav SW movie yet I’m still most excited for Andor than I have been for any Star Wars project since Visions!
Finally, content we can all agree was good
These instances of neato-ness are interesting in their own right, but I'm digging the unironic enthusiasm too. :)
Great video! 🙏🏼
Wonderful vid. I share your love for this masterpiece completely.
Best Star Wars movie from Disney
Love this movie…really excited for ANDOR.
just rewatched it last week
I only realized a couple of weeks ago thanks to someone else, but I never noticed Vader’s helmet was in the poster in the Death Star
I freaking love this movie as well 😮😊
Dude, maybe it was because it was a packed theater and it was the first showing of the day, which means the A/C didn't get turned on right away, but I was sweating by the end of this movie back in 2016.
Mustafar is so iconic that it would be a mockery to viewers to assume they needed a location slide
Awesome list of moments.
Possibly the greatest Star Wars movie.
Re upload? I could have sworn you made a video of this before 😂
A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one.
I went to the midnight premiere and it was like 2 am when the movie ended and me and everyone else in the theater stand up and started clapping and the first thing I did after coming home from the theater was to put Netflix and watch A New Hope.
Fine, I'll go read the Rogue One novelization
Hopefully they do one for Andor after Season 2 airs
Great show!
This video would be great if the movie's soundtrack played in the b/g. Get those rights! lol
What did Chirrut mean by "I sense that you carry your prison wherever you go"?
He most likely meant that Cassian feels a lot of repressed guilt over many dark decisions he had to take throughout his life. Be it for his personal survival, or in the name of the Rebel Alliance.
Rogue One is my favourite movie after Revenge of The Sith.
I agree! 👍
I only liked 1 prequel, and that was episode 1. I'll watch them all, but don't like them as much.
Easily the best Vader scene ever.
OMG Alex! To end a half hour breakdown of the movie and just mention the Vader ship scene being cool and NOT the fact that this was the first time we saw live action full-fledge bad A&$ Vader mow down rebels…..just cruel….you have some dark side in you! ❤ 😈
I love the void 3 d movie with k 2 so hope it comes back was so cool
Should have just put the whole film and call it a day
Rewatching this post “Plan 99”, and I don’t love seeing Saw anymore. Nope not one bit
WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAHH! What about Vader’s end hall scene? That was soo good!
I like 👍 the video Alex nice job 😊!!!!!!!!
