The developers should be stopped. This house is a piece of history.
Would the residents of the city not form a preservation group and organize a petition to retain those beautiful old mansions? I wholeheartedly agree that developers should not be allowed to demolish an important part of Nashville's history, all in the name of greed.
Wish there was some way to save this historic home!!! There is nothing today that can touch the value this home has in our history...the craftmanship is beyond the crap we see today in so many ways. The people back then wanted to leave their mark in what they did so they did it so well! SAD, SAD, SAD!!! People do not appreciate this as some of us do!!!

@@Angelica-me4fj It CAN be moved-- in sections.. and re-assembled.. but very expensive and it depends too on how far- and the roads to go over between where it is and where it's going-- lots of permits, insurance, etc.. but worth it.
This house is truly an architectural treasure and still in good enough shape to be a easily restored....It would be such a shame to destroy such a wonderful house :-(
Or moved in sections and re-assembled with no sign it was ever touched-- the rotunda (round part) would have to be replaced-- for water damage-- keep the windows as complete units and reused.
I’ll never understand all this. Just abandon them when we have So many people with no place to live. Then places like this sit empty.

@@gracieg7601 YES- looks like some of these "foundations" would go repair places like this.. this would easily house a large family or 3-4 smaller ones.. or like a friend of mine did- bought one like that and gave it to a group of wounded veterans.. and like 9 of them live in it and LOVE it- and they keep it beautiful too!!

I have lived near Nashville since the 1970's and it's sad to see these beautiful old houses tore town and replaced by junk!

My old house is 140 years old. I can't help awe in the craftsmanship in building these houses and the stories of the people who lived and loved them.
Would love to be a time traveler and go back to when there were sounds of children’s laughter and family gatherings. That would surely be the time when this home was most loved.

It would cost way too much to move.
The structure of that house-- would easily stand to move-- and cut in sections.. and re-assembled without even showing!!! The rotunda (round section) would have to be redone completely-- too soft from water damage- but the windows would all come out as complete units.. and re-used!!
I was thinking the same thing. Save and move the house so it can remain it's heritage.
@@elishiamariewilson8289 It looks plenty strong enough to move still-- except for the round tower- water damage will cause that to need rebuilt- but the rounded windows etc. are all reusable. It would be expensive but SO worth it..
This absolutely BREAKS MY HEART! If I had the money, I would snap this up in a heartbeat...it is amazing in the details. This home needs saving!!!
This house is begging to be restored. I live just outside of Nashville, I wish I could go see it in person. I hate that every inch of Nashville is going to be a subdivision soon.
That's the way our globalist controllers want it....much easier to control us and keep us oppressed that way. Plus wiping out our history so the younger people don't know what they missed out on (aka what was STOLEN from them).

You can tell where the original house was and what was added later. It is such a shame these beautiful homes are being left to rot. I would love to take these houses and restore them to the original beauty.

I would have loved to seen this place in it's heyday years - absolutely gorgeous and so much craftsmanship and detail. What a shame that it is not going to be restored. Truly the history that has transpired within those walls. A mansion for sure that deserves to be restored to it's former beautiful state.

Hopefully you get to make it up to Missouri. We have a lot of Victorian Era Homes that are in tact, and presently lived in and just as well have plenty of Abandoned ones. Love the video.

My Heavens the staircases made of mahogany or cherry are incredible.
Mahogany was cheapest and closest to to import. It was brought in on the slave ships, along with the slaves from the Caribbean and East Indes (free labor)
Cherry trees don't grow in the south, and over time, doesn't age qs well as mahogany in the humidity of the gulf coast. Mahogany develops an almost black patina, and since it's a soft to medium wood, thevpatina can be scrapedvoff with almost a fingernail to reveal its true resonance beneath.

OMG I just found your channel by chance actually and thoroughly enjoyed this video ...it touched my heart for a couple of reasons number one though I live in Southern California now I was born in Nashville and have always called it home ...number two my grandparents lived on a street where at the end of the cul-de-sac sat a antebellum mansion that was so amazing and so full of history and literally gave me chills when I stood in front of it and peered through the gates. God bless you for what you do, that wonderful attitude that you have toward things from our past that still hold something sacred. Greed is an ugly thing.

Hearing you share about the history of this home and the destruction of so much history that is being horribly demolished for the sake of "progress and growth" literally rips my heart out. I moved to Nashville in the mid 80's and became passionately involved in the fight to preserve a mansion in the heart of Donelson. This mansion and its 23 out buildings, including the original cabin from the late 1700s, predated The Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson. As a matter of fact, the president bought several acres of land from the land owner, Mr. John Hoggat, to use as his race track. That land sets on the banks of the Stone River, which divides Hermitage and Donelson. A bank, Khols, and a Target store currently set on this land, and if one looks carefully, you can actually see the bowl of President Jackson's race track today. This home called Clover Bottom Mansion was the former home of John Hoggat, his wife, and his niece (by marriage). In the 1980s, the familial owners (the Andrew Price family, who bought it from the Hoggat family) donated the home and the land to Clover Bottom, which became a mental institution and later was turned over the TN Department of Education. As a member of the Clover Bottom Historical Association, we fought the state for years, trying to get them to release the funds donated and received by the Federal government to assist in the preservation and restoration of this historic site. It took us almost 2 decades, several lawsuits, and finally, the designation of the home as a registered Historic site for the money's to finally be released. During this time the beautiful home and its 23 out buildings endured vandalism, over growth attempting to reclaim it, and exposure of its beautiful architectural details to the elements. We (the 12 of us) spent our own money and time in the upkeep of the grounds and blocking the interior from additional damage and vandalism, as well as researching the history of the home and its owners. Today the home has been preserved and restored to its original state and is the proud home to the Tennessee Historical Commission. Irony being, the department that now calls this beauty its "official" headquarters, was the very same department that we fought for nearly 20 years.
I wish the same could be said of other homes in Nashville, such as this one. However, Nashville proved what "side" it was truly on, when they allowed the former home, AND a registered Historic Site, the home of the Country music legend, Jim Reeves to be destroyed for a Home Depot. I cried, literally the day those bulldozers took it down. It proved that in the people who govern the politics within our city, have no respect or feel obligation to preserve or protect our city's history or the men and women that put the name, Nashville, TN on the map with the moniker of "Music City." It grieves my heart just thinking about it. Thank you for filming this home. Without individuals like you, future generations will never know or see the history of this city and how money rules over it in Nashville, Tennessee.
I wish you would have gone up to the attic. I love these old houses!! The detail to the woodwork is amazing, the wall paper gorgeous, arched doorways, round rooms, pocket doors(not in this particular house but other old ones), chandeliers etc. are from an era when people actually took pride in their work!! I wish I had the money to buy this house & restore it to it's original beauty.

I wonder could they salvage the stained glass windows, doors and bannisters etc before it being demolished? None of the floors make a noise as you walked over them. The woodwork is amazing and details.

Parts of this home can and absolutely should be salvaged saved by someone who actually cares. No excuse to just take a wrecking ball to this. I can't believe anybody would considering the value that's in this home. I wish I could go myself and do it

You mention it’s going to be torn down due to a subdivision. Is there anyway it could be saved and presented to that planning committee to save the history and make it into a clubhouse or something? I don’t know anything about that process, but I’ve heard it being done in other places and that’s all I was thinking while watching this. It’s in such great condition I would hate to see it go.
Report to the historical society. They can stop any structure from being torn down with historical significance.
We are growing too fast here in middle Tennessee, the traffic is getting more congested all the time and the building never stops. I have had to wait in a two mile long line to drop my son off at school.

OMG, those developers are out of their minds. For heavens sake, don't tear that breathtakingly gorgeous house down it's history and beauty are to overwhelming and could bring in A LOT of money. If it was turned into apts, there would most likely be a lot of people who would love to live there

Thank you for this lovely video, showing us an important and beautiful part of Nashville's history. I love looking at old homes and stately mansions and wondering about the people who lived in them. I also appreciate the wonderful workmanship of the past, when such beautifully hard carved furniture, doors and stair banisters were made by master craftsmen who took such pride in their work. The like of that we will never see again unless it is preserved.

I agree 1 in 13 is pretty high. I only rubes once and squatters were there. They were chill artist luckily but I hardly explore now bc it have no safety buddies lol

@@andychris7647 We're okay. Our main concern is the horrific drought, heat, and wildfires out here. We have a megafire (Bootleg Fire in Klamath County), just 28 miles away from us. The air quality is horrible, and we are all so sick of this awful heatwave. We are all praying for cooler weather and much needed rain. Thank you for asking! It represents what is happening to Nashville on a large scale. This used to be a town with a lot of charm but sadly it's becoming a plastic city.

Thank you for your lovely tour. It is a shame so many of our wonderful heritage is falling to make room for tract homes. I did not feel spirits or a tragic happening as some in the comments have made, simply a loss that is unrecoverable. Perhaps someone can save all the wonderful woodwork, fireplaces etc to be used in another lovely home.

I love this house. I'm so into antiques, Victorian and the Country Style. The wood is beautiful. The entire house is beautiful. The back in the day look reminds me of my Great Parents. Wished it could be saved.
Any follow up videos? This one is particularly heart-breaking. Some very unique pieces inside not to mention it’s Queen Anne style architecture, she is an gorgeous example of our architectural heritage. The developers should allow someone to at least move her if not save her. There’s nothing wrong with an antiquity sitting amongst a newly developed area. The curved gin windows in the turret, staircase stylized after the naturalist movement of the era, the pier mirrors, and the incredible millwork suspended from the ceiling is the jewel piece! I pray someone saw this video and had the means and connections to save the gem! Any follow ups would be fabulous. Thanks for showcasing her!

This house is magnificent! The large front door, so many rooms! The fireplaces, the huge standing mirrors! Why????? How???? Can you tear something like this down ?? The woodwork on the stairs!!! I live in an 1823 Historic Home in Petersburg Virginia. This home, in the video, is still in good condition and should be restored. I sure hope that someone steps up and blocks any possible destruction of this beautiful home. The woodwork, excellent flooring, and style must be saved!

What an amazing home! I’d live to be able to explore these old places. Do you every get scared/creeped out walking into abandoned spaces? This one doesn’t seem too bad.
Without a doubt, I get scared on EVERY SINGLE EXPLORATION, and it's often during these terrifying moments that I produce my best work. Alone in an abandoned building, my mind becomes my greatest obstacle. Everything inside of me is screaming “Get out now! This doesn’t feel right. RUN!” But it’s exactly in those moments when it shifts from an exploration of the location, to an exploration of myself.
Society conditions us to avoid fear. We do this in a ton of areas of our lives- be it our careers, with relationships, with personal growth, etc.. Instead of leaning into discomfort and challenge, we instead eliminate it and escape from what brings out the deepest, most passionate parts of ourselves. But sometimes, the very thing that scares us, just might be the very keys to our liberation.
These abandoned places serve as unconventional classrooms, teaching me valuable skills like operating under anxiety. Even in the most unnerving situations, I find that I'm able to keep moving forward and from that emerges an amazing story of each of these locations. These abandoned places become unique classrooms, teaching me how to operate under anxiety and from that I’m able to unearth the incredible stories these places have to offer.

I pray that professional interior salvagers got the chance to take the mantles, rounded windows and frames (worth $), the millwork over the first doorway and the entire staircase. Gorgeous pieces of history and there's a market for interior artifacts.

I hope some one saves this house. I was surprised at what good condition it was inside. The wood work is awesome and in beautiful shape. HG TV needs to be called about this place aren't there people on their shows that do this restoration!

Everything that was special about that house was removable. I sure hope it was all salvaged.
Such a beautiful home. I can imagine what it looked like fully furnished. Such a shame for all that rich beauty to just be nocked down and forgotten.
Its too bad the culture in general doesn't value history or preservation.. Unfortunately though this mansion may have had its day of grandeur , the subsequent occupants didn't care for the house at all, it show's in the later add ons, like the faux add on ceilings, these types of homes had higher alcove style ceilings and crown moldings,,,. Apparently these tacky add ons were done later in the 20th century, the '70s wood panel atrocity for example in some of the rooms. Also closing off the fireplaces, obviously the house was converted to oil heat ,judging by the oil tank visible outside. And electricity, the light fixtures are definitely not original to the house. The house was ruined long ago, also judging from the moisture accumulation in the faux low ceilings, indicated by staining.. which indicates moisture/ mold . .the bathrooms were redone and have no original fixtures left from the antebellum period. There's probably mold and asbestos mitigation issues with the later addons throughout the house.... ..Even if the house could be restored it would be very expensive since if that oil tank was abandoned it may have leached into the ground....all kinds of potential issues with this house and property, ..from an investor perspective its more cost effective to just demo the whole thing and start over.. if the original owners wanted it preserved they would've applied to have it declared a historic site and would've had to comply with historical preservation standards,...I felt grief for the lack of care this home had..the original wood fixtures and fireplace facades were the high notes of this tour...you can see the level of masterful craftsmanship in the construction of the curved window frame and stairway. ..They really dont make them like that anymore. Its sad that it came to this tragic end..

I was feeling deeply, generally considering that home, how beautiful and unique that it is, the people that experienced it's purpose.
I was then haulted, considering the gorgeous, soulful woodworking, and remembering the conspired plan to level that home.
Very unfortunate. Even if the demolition and building plan can't be stopped, then I really hope that at least that detailed woodwork had been salvaged, and divied among people who will value and enjoy it. Perhaps, even repurposed, incorporated into modern homes.
If I could even have one of those many, matching spindles of the staircase, then I would keep it always! Would love to find history of those who experienced and contributed to that home.

The areas with wood paneling look like they may have had a commercial purpose, especially with the "restrooms" sign on the one bathroom door. Any ideas what the house might have been used for in the past?
Yeah, when I didn't even notice that until I got home and was editing the footage. I wonder why that sign was there too. I feel like perhaps they used the house as a business or something at one point.

You flew through there so fast I longed to see much more detail. You now show so much appreciation for the great details & beauty of these homes. I hate to see these kinds of places go...I only hope someone can at least architecturally salvage some of the woodwork and architectural details...
Look at that trim on the porch! Imagine sitting out there in the early morning sipping your tea and waiting for the day to start .

I love the natural lighting, the porches, woodwork as well as al of the southern charm of these old houses. It's a shame that they will eventually be torn down to make way for the new era of houses with little to no personality. I wonder why someone doesn't make sort of scrap book with pieces of the wall paper as well as pictures and document the history of these houses. IF they have to be torn down why not sell some of the reusable items such as the beautiful fireplace mantels, hinges, the stairway posts. But why not try to repurpose the homes instead to showcase their yesteryear life? You don't see very many finials with the pineapple shape any more. These finials were used on the plantation homes as a "welcoming" gesture. We need more. I would love to have some of those ornate features on my Georgia home!
Fight for this house to stay. Historical house cant be torn down! There is money to restore it. Beautiful history.
My heart is breaking. I've always wanted a house like that. Especially with a secondary staircase. I know it might sound dumb but being the region that house is located can't the historical society put up a huge bitch and maybe delay it till someone with deep pockets and a heart can rescue it🤔 if I was in the one percent I'd rescue and restore houses all over the USA.

The woodwork, fireplace mantels and the floors alone are worth saving this home...I can only imagine how beautiful this home once was, such a shame! Progress my hinnie.
Could have been renovated and turned into a B&B! So sad, hopefully it hasn’t been demolished!
Usually when you come across ceiling tile like that in residential buildings it’s because they’re hiding plaster or drywall water damage, especially really old houses like this.
This house is absolutely gorgeous! It wouldn’t take that much to bring it back to its former glory but It would absolutely be a crime to tear this house down. Why some people want to destroy everything historic and beautiful, it’s beyond me
