    Nice review! In our opinion; besides isolation a good amount of bass is very important for a closed back headphone at this price.

    Been using the Rode since they came out, and oddly enough I've taken them out of my studio and now use them as my dedicated gaming (and often music) headphone, replacing my Sundara for that purpose. Everyone underestimates comfort, and you can wear the NTH-100 for hours. Easily the most comfortable headphone I own. They're also a great compromise between closed and open backs. They have that open sound, and still allow in a lot of outside noise (especially human voices), but also don't leak very much sound. Soundstage is better than just about every other closed back I've tried. I keep seeing criticism of the treble, but to me it just sounds natural rather than elevated. Not what I'd call recessed, but I guess that's a matter of perspective. Made in Australia, rather than China. Truly the best $150 headphone money can currently buy.

      There have been quite contrasting impressions being posted on various platforms/forums, indicating there may be a big variation from driver-to-driver, although Rode seems to do a good job matching those different drivers of the similar variations into pairs.

      @@gigihanmandarin It's hard to say without trying other units, but I have my doubts on wide unit variation being the explanation. Rode has been making extremely consistent microphone capsules for so long that it would be very out of character for them to suddenly experience big unit variations. I think it's probably more related to people comparing it to what they normally listen to, and what they tend to like. If you listen to v-shaped headphones pretty often, it's totally understandable to say these are "very recessed" or "rolled off" in the treble. Just like how if you normally listen to very neutral headphones, you might call these "too bassy". Someone like me, who is admittedly treble sensitive in the 8k region, is going to have a very "it sounds natural" impression of that small dip I'm seeing in some of the measurements.
      I could be totally wrong, and maybe it is unit variation, but that would definitely surprise me from a microphone company with this kind of long track record, and reputation for consistency in even their most budget offerings.

    These are now my daily drivers. I put away my Airmotive GR1s and use these for everything. I own the ifi zen dac and hip dac and with the bass boost, it turns these headphoes into an honestly remarkable experience.

    I was actually quite taken aback by this review. I can honestly say that I disagree with most of the comments regarding the sound. I personally think the R7DX is a great headphone. It has fantastic imaging and soundstage. I actually think it sounds very natural and extremely pleasant to my ears. If you can get a good seal they have really good bass, the mids are sweet and the treble is chill. There's no siblance at all on my set. I almost wonder if you got a bad set? The first one I received had a short in the left driver so I had to exchange. I can't argue with the build quality issues. The clamp force is poor. I ended up modding mine with a Sundara/Ananda style headband from AliExpress. It improves the clamp force significantly and so I get rich bass. The bass can almost get too heavy, even. It's a shame that your experience was so different from mine. For anyone reading this, my experience is not unique. A lot of people really enjoy the sound of these, some even going as far as saying they sound like a closed back Sundara. I recommend them wholeheartedly and I encourage people to check them out. I think these are surprising a lot of people, clamp force aside.

    Great review!! How does Rode NTH 100 compares to Hifiman he400se ?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rode has better isolation of outside noises. Rode is more comfortable. Rode has better note weight and density. Rode has more bass impact. Rode has more accurate reproduction of tone and timbre. Hifiman is brighter. Hifiman has a wider stage. Rode has more depth and layering. Rode is more natural and neutral. Overall I prefer the Rode.

    Would you recommend the R7DX at $100? If not, what would be your $100 recommendation?

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn't recommend the R74DX at any price to be honest.
      I don't have a lot of knowledge with sub $100 headphones. If you can adjust your budget slightly, the Rode NTH-100, AKG K275 are better choices. Even the AKG K371 if you desire a bassy, laidback sound.

    Since TH-cam has apparently broken its accessibility to the like buttons, consider this my like for the video. PS; How are companies getting their names for headphones these days, slapping their hand down on a computer keyboard and using the end result as the headphone name?
