Matt Bettcher it’s not true in all hospitals. The one I work in has excellent fruit and veg options, there are always veggie salads, and usually offers stand alone grilled chicken and hard boiled or poached eggs. Bring a water bottle and own oil/vinegar dressing and food options are really reasonable. $$ but nutritionally reasonable.
Peter Cervantes cool, last time I was in a hospital I had Mac and cheese.. that’s not healthy but whatever, it’s great that you serve healthy food in your hospital, it should be the case everywhere
Thanks Jeff! I am mid 20's and am at the gym at least three times every week. Honestly, I make my own workout routine but I base it off other pre made routines. I knew the basics from when I was in highschool and worked out every other day. Today, I manly focus of power lifting. I regularly watch your videos to get advice and tips on how to improve my workouts. Over the past month I have tried the isometric workout at the end of every type of workout and wow! I feel stronger and look better! I have take creatine for almost a year from what I've heard and what you said here proves it. Thank you alot man! As always, you've been a great help!
One of my friend started to train this year. The very first thing he did was to get into a shop and buy a full stack of supplement before he ever touched a single dumbbell. Lot of people think that working out impossible without these products. Ridicolous...
i bet dom from broscience convinced him that he will never make any bicep gains without taking pre workout post workout and some kind of supplement between every breath at the gym.

Just finding your channel man I feel pretty late. I love that you ask questions to your audience feels more authentic and you keep it real. I appreciate your approach.
When I first started working out last year, I was a 20yr old 5'7" that weighed 52kg. I was well below the average despite my heavy eating and I've been like that my whole life. I'm not lanky, or super skinny, just really lean. I've never really had much of a fat content despite lack of exercise and unhealthy eating so I could easily gauge my progress on the weighing scale as every increase would be muscle, never shedding fat. I bought 500g creatine and 2.5kg whey protein powder when I first started working out, along with tweaks in my diet which is also super important. Within the first two weeks I had packed on an extra 5kg, and a month later I was 61kg. After around 3-4 months of training I had gone from 52kg to 63kg, I was getting and feeling pretty ripped. Creatine and other supplementation may not work for everybody, but it can help to speed up the process, especially if you're like me and struggle with packing on the pounds, instead of shedding it. I still have a tiny 28" waist but I feel a huge sense of achievement every time I see my weight go up on the scales. Training does take time, it takes a lot of motivation because you won't always feel like working out, so it's really important to find a good reason for YOU to train. It can be gaining or losing weight, but nothing makes a target more achievable than specifics. It's easy to plan when you have a specific goal in mind, mine is to eventually reach 85kg on the scales. It'll take a lot of hard work, but I'm enjoying the journey in feeling and looking great, and that's all that matters in the end, right?
@@Nick-AngelpeodSeaxisc Jeff is simply saying that isn't a prerequisite to gains, which he is absolutely right on. If you're using it to gain water weight and look slightly puffier in the mirror that's up to you, but I don't see how you disagree with Jeff saying it isn't a mandatory supplement
Is it me or does not being able to find good nutrition at a hospital sound wrong? Not wrong like incorrect, but you would think being a hospital that they would prioritize that and on a level for more than their patients also for the staff and visitors as well.
As someone that have had a to spend a lot of time in relations to hospitals and what not. Most hospitals (that are big and professional) will have a normal light menu that rotates from week to week. It's not unhealthy, but it not your protein heavy food either. That's for most people. But they will have a separate menu for ill and old people that need more fat and calories from their food, because they don't eat a lot for example. There might also be a few dishes with a protein heavy items, but it's not available to everybody in the hospital.
Yes I always found that to be pretty inexcusable. Not unexpected though, given the role a hospital plays, economically, and maybe not wrong--from a capitalistic point of view (accept that no option of any alternative is available). I try to think of hospitals as... very exclusive and expensive hotels. This may sound silly but it fits after a bit of thought; the Doctors' and staff's expertise is the amenity for why that particular "hotel" is chosen over any alternative: they are the reason patients show up and stay, and like any business, and a hospital IS a business, they have a business model complete with financial goals, cost mitigations, a budget, and (fault lies with just the healthcare industry as a whole here I feel) every opportunity for gouging is exploited, no surprise there. (Where, in the case of the food, no hospital is "charging" for meals as a restaurant would, so with no separate, astronomically expensive allocation on the bill for meals from which they can profit, they'll mitigate the cost of those meals by serving crap meeting their criteria for cheap, safe, approved, and availible --easy to prepare --easy to serve --easy to consistently monitor [such as for patients whose intake must be very precisely controlled] --and easy/cheap to store with a high shelf-life-to-cost ratio...).. Things should be different, I agree.
The overwhelming majority of people simply don't want to eat clean. So, from a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense. I agree it sucks though. Being a nightshift nurse, its even more difficult trying to eat clean, especially when the hospital cafeteria is effectively shut down for my entire shift.
I train almost every day and supplement with the following. Creatine monohydrate 5g daily Mutant Noxx pre workout Protine isolate shake once daily HMB 2g daily Test 60mg daily. (Gel) Fish oils Magnesium Turmeric and Black pepper Vitamin B12 1000mg daily. Thats what ive found works for me.
How are the gains bro? All I take is creatine, whey, and some bcaa’s. Probably hopping off creatine bc I think I m getting some hair-loss. I need some more supplements I got a decent healthy diet but I need some stuff to boost me up and get some gains bc I think coming off creatine is going to kill my gains.
Jeff...I must say, out of all the guys that talk nutrition, and working out on TH-cam, you're by far the most knowledgeable and articulate. Just simply wanted to say thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world. I've put a lot of your training methodologies to good use, with good results...so thanks again.
I got advised that creatine was overkill for a newbie and don't bother etc by my local bodybuilding store, so I never had the energy to work out for years after work even eating a good diet. Later I decided to take supplements anyway and now finally I have the energy to work out, so no harm in trying to see what works for you. Also drinking green tea is amazing, do it.
Raymundo Vega No one has said it's a stimulant, but it does help your muscles to perform, I have more energy(endurance) to perform longer on it, that does not mean it's a stimulant lol.
Raymundo Vega Well I was mainly talking about how they advice newbies not to take any supplements and in my preworkout there is also caffiene etc and it has given me the energy to want to workout and other newbies to lifting should just go against the advice to avoid supplements (or that it isn't needed which is true) if they have having problems getting the energy at the start :) but some people need the extra performance just to get going in the first place.

I think every body should take vitamins. I been taking vitamins for over 40 years and I still take them. Food doesn't always have the nutrition that you need and vitamins is a supplement. Insures you are getting the right nutrients. Not just working out. They can prevent disease early in life.
Been working out and lifting weights for about 3 months now... I went from 270 lbs to about 257 with actual muscle gain! I’m so proud of this and I’m only gonna get better! Thanks for these guides, I think I’m finally ready for supplements.

Having been in the fitness game for 15 years now as an amateur - I can say you definitely point people in the right direction with how to think about supplementation.
Hey Jeff, love your videos. Just a suggestion, perhaps invest in a lavalier microphone - ek even a corded mic on a stand just out of shot. Your intro is extremely loud and then the actual video so soft.

I used to have this argument with people all the time, who would say to me "why do you need all those supplements? You can get it all from food.", I would them explain why it's impossible to do.
it's incredible to see how your video quality changed and improved over the last years. Great video, just hard to understand/hear without cranking the volume up to max :)
I believe that you should only experiment with supplements when you stop getting gains from balanced meals. At least you will know what you can achieve without extra stuff, cause when you begin using them there's no way back, it is somewhat addictive, nobody wants regress.
Well yes it can be sort of addictive but I also take creatin and protein supplements and I can very well live without them. Its no problem. But my gains are very limited because of the fact that I'm only 17 and I have a very skinny body type. I hope to be getting gains soon. I have been working out almost 2 years and havent gained weight yet although my physic is much better and muscular. I'm dieting now and supplementing and working out and sleeping right so hopefully the supplements can help a little.
Definitely true I started out just eating balanced meals high in protein and got great results I just recently started taking protein shakes and creatine to see the different results I hope to get

Thanks for the video (great info)- How Creatine Works......If you’re not familiar with how creatine works here is a simple explanation. Andesine Triphosphate (ATP) fuels all muscle contraction, which is stored in the muscle cell. There is enough stored ATP in the muscle cell for about 5 to 7 seconds of intense exertion. After that the body has to use a different energy system so it takes Creatin-Phosphate (CP), which is also stored in the muscle and mixes it with Anderson Diphosphate (ADP) to make ATP. Creatine gives ADP the third phosphate molecule to make ATP.
I've had plenty of gains without supplements. I'm too cheap and Im happy with results. But that's me work hard left heavy you'll see results takes time

I just had an 8 month kidney scare that I had to go through. It ended this past Friday when I saw the nephrologist. She told me that my kidney function had gone down to 44% when I had my initial blood tests 8 months ago. I stopped taking the stuff after they told me that I had elevated kidney function (meaning my kidneys were so weak that they were having to work harder to do their job). Fast forward to now and my kidney function is back to 100% since I haven't touched creatine. Never going to use creatine again. Although if anyone here uses it, I'd recommend having routine bloodwork done to monitor your kidneys.

I am a woman and being working out for a year and eating healthy, but I can't put on weight. I am dangerously on the low side of everything. My question is should I take supplements? Being lazy and eating junk food won't get me fat and will put me in other health risks. Last month I started taking supplementation after my workout and that made me gain 2k to get me closer to the lower body weight limit. But I have always thought that supplements are not the best specially for someone who isn't trying to build too much muscle.
If you look at this mans body and don't think that he knows what he's talking about, then you are kidding yourself. He has a body that even professional body builders dream of. Great job Buddy!
Hello, I'm a 53 year old male. I've been working out most of my life (Three times a week for more than an hour). I've stopped working out several times over the years sometimes for up to a year but have always found my way back to the gym. I've always eaten pretty well over the years and always seem to loose my appetite when I stop working out so I usually lose weight and muscle tone when I stop training. My question to you is how much does supplementation very from say a thirty year old male to a 50+ individual ?. I recently got a comprehensive blood test. and found that my LDL cholesterol is a little high and my glucose Serum is also a bit high but other than that everything is normal.I take a multivitamin for 50+ males and few other things and I've changed some things in my diet and plan on getting another test in a month or so. Thanks for all your the information packed videos.
Take multivitamin, iron 18mg+ , calcium 500mg, zinc 50mg, copper 2mg, magnesium 400mg and fish oil (2-3 grams) supplements. Iron and calcium because older people usually get less of these. Zinc and copper to keep your hormones in balance, which could keep you looking younger for longer. Magnesium because everyone should take them anyway as it's almost impossible to get enough of it from the food. Fish oil will keep LDL low and your heart healthy. Take a spoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning to detox your liver.
I'll be 53 this summer and like you I've been on off at the Gym since 21. My genes probably helped me keep thin so my younger years was quite hard to get muscle. I've tried those amino acids and vitamens in my late 20's and got some gains but that much. I've taken Creatine when I started going to the gym around 49 on and off and beginning again this week after a year off. I'm starting my creatine and whey protein shakes. And to be honest, the only reason I take it now is because I see much more muscle gain in my late 40's and now then I ever did in my twenties. Now not everyone is the same but I realize I'm a late boomer I guess.
Congrats on your twin boys. I hope that they continue to grow and get as strong as their daddy. Thanks for taking the time to make these really helpful videos.

Thank you for this. I just stardced working out after 16 years of being sick and was thionking of adding some supplements but after this i know its better to wait a bit.
I know this is an older video, but I'm trying to find answers. I am a female, and I weight lift often. I use pre-workout. My body is better than ever before. But, unfortunately I am having hair thinning, at 20 years old. I fear it could be from creatine, and preworkout, as I've heard it increases testosterone and DHT. Have you seen hair thinning in your trainees? Which preworkout is most beneficial for women?

"you have to earn the privilege to start taking supplements." Such a profound statement when you break it down!
To clarify, you'd have to eat 450g of tuna to get 4.5g of creatine
+Paul Dowsett creatine is overrated.. just like other supplements
***** I KNOW it you dumb fuck
+thisguywhocamps1 umm...80% of the people probably have an unhealthy lifestyle, have their nutrition not on point but then they take creatine and expect magic. and i've made my best results when not taking any supps and just eating good quality food... NOTHING beats actual food! 100g of lentils or a scoop of whey, guess which one is more beneficial...
+FIGHT TIME prod. It's not really overrated, of course it's not like steroids but it helps to increase power output.. It's one of the only supplements that actually works.
+Semper Fidelis totally agree..Lets just suppose that, that tuna had like 5 grams of creatine in it and
you could eat one tuna for some months daily..Now lets say you are
taking creatine powder for some months daily..What happens in the end,
is that if you stopped eating the tuna(natural creatine) after some
months your muscles wouldnt have the chemical creatine's powder negative
feedbacks, like losing power and mass...Everyone that takes creatine
knows that if you stop taking it you lose things...Thats why you CANT
compare natural food to chemically supplements..Period!

+The Piper I'm vegan and I agree with what VG says, I was just saying that Jeff is like one of the only fitness channels VG doesn't target because he knows what he's talking about relating to fitness, I don't agree with the meat side etc but the rest of the fitness side he is so good
I want to hear Jeff's opinion on vegangains
+brandon jacobo If you go to his website, everything in his "diet plan" (which is don't eat garbage) can be substituted for a vegetarian alternate if you prefer.
+jack cutts Why would VG be here anyway? JC has tremendous knowledge plus he's a physical therapist which is a biiig plus. No material for VG here.
+Greenegsnham iam "He does nothing but make people hate vegans" - I am not vegan but I don't hate them because of VG. He has some really good points if you have a critical mind. I think most bb guys hate him cause he's telling the truth which is in conflict with their bro science style of life.
“The cafeteria in the hospital isn’t somewhere I’d be able to find good nutrition” isn’t that really sad? We should have way better foods in hospitals
Brittainy Byam cool
Not sure what hospital he goes to ,the hospital I work at has alot of healthy food, hospitals now have great food

Ridicolous...
i bet dom from broscience convinced him that he will never make any bicep gains without taking pre workout post workout and some kind of supplement between every breath at the gym.
hhhhhh True!
you don't actually NEED any supplements at all to get into shape.
dom mazetti is the preacher of gainz
First i touched dumbbells and till now touching ..but no money for stacking😤😤
I just pictured a guy doing a barbell squat with one arm free to drink from a straw between every breath xD
When he leaned in I thought he was gonna slap me.

Just finding your channel man I feel pretty late. I love that you ask questions to your audience feels more authentic and you keep it real. I appreciate your approach.
Jeff: are you an athlete?
Me: *listening while walking uphill a steep sidewalk with the groceries* absolutely
Creatine is a must, the water bulking alone is a great motivational boost for most beginners.
It's something i fundamentally disagree with Jeff on.
How much do you weigh now..
Nick how do you start taking creatine?
@@blothhounder2190 I went with the loading stage
@@Nick-AngelpeodSeaxisc Jeff is simply saying that isn't a prerequisite to gains, which he is absolutely right on. If you're using it to gain water weight and look slightly puffier in the mirror that's up to you, but I don't see how you disagree with Jeff saying it isn't a mandatory supplement
Is it me or does not being able to find good nutrition at a hospital sound wrong? Not wrong like incorrect, but you would think being a hospital that they would prioritize that and on a level for more than their patients also for the staff and visitors as well.
Well not that it;s necessarily unhealthy, but tends to be lighter and more for people recovering from illness, not on a heavy duty work out routine.
Gottfried Osterbach well they make money off sick people so....
Creatine monohydrate 5g daily
Mutant Noxx pre workout
Protine isolate shake once daily
HMB 2g daily
Test 60mg daily. (Gel)
Fish oils Magnesium Turmeric and Black pepper Vitamin B12 1000mg daily.

Creatine is not a stimulant so what energy do you speak of?
Raymundo Vega
No one has said it's a stimulant, but it does help your muscles to perform, I have more energy(endurance) to perform longer on it, that does not mean it's a stimulant lol.
RealistReviewer oh yah I know it's just the context you put it in. Usually when you hear "energy" supplements you think stuff like caffiene.
Secretface wut? Is that a troll or actual statement?
Been 2 weeks of taking creatine and doing the workouts on this channel, already seeing the most gains of my life so far, it’s unbelievable how much u notice the muscle grow if you use smaller weights and isolate the muscle just like Jeff always says to do

I think every body should take vitamins. I been taking vitamins for over 40 years and I still take them. Food doesn't always have the nutrition that you need and vitamins is a supplement. Insures you are getting the right nutrients. Not just working out. They can prevent disease early in life.

it's incredible to see how your video quality changed and improved over the last years. Great video, just hard to understand/hear without cranking the volume up to max :)
I believe that you should only experiment with supplements when you stop getting gains from balanced meals. At least you will know what you can achieve without extra stuff, cause when you begin using them there's no way back, it is somewhat addictive, nobody wants regress.
totally agree with you
Well yes it can be sort of addictive but I also take creatin and protein supplements and I can very well live without them.
Definitely true
I started out just eating balanced meals high in protein and got great results
I just recently started taking protein shakes and creatine to see the different results I hope to get

Was wondering how many grams of creatine a day you were taking when you developed you kidney problems.

Jamie Orlich have your Dr. check for fatty liver , Hereditary
I’ve been working out for 2 months am I still considered as a beginner made minor gains too
