Hyundai hired away the lead designer from Audi, the lead power train guy from BMW, and leading handling guy from BMW also, a few years ago. They also built German engineering center just down the road from Mercedes and the Nurbergring race track, which they test almost everything on. Combine that with long warranties and bulletproof reliability, and it is no wonder that Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are killing it ! 🧐🤗👍
Your reviews are always well researched, very detailed, and very comprehensive. Rarely have I heard you seem so impressed bu a car so this must be raising the bar! This G70 seems like a fresh face that makes me rethink about shopping for a German car. Thank you for your work and your channel.
Glad to see that the 2022 model offers a remote start on the key fob instead of relying on a phone app like my 2020 G70, which is a pain in the rear to use. Also glad to see it has a better phone cradle that will accommodate a larger phone. Another great, detailed review!
Everyone on the road gives me the stare of "wtf is that, it looks sweet" look. I had a few people follow me to my destination a few times and those conversations were great.
Ty for the review and all the information -- gotta admit wish I stubbled onto this vid before I bought my amg cause I might have swapped from my regular purchase... great review either way, ty for sharing ( you got a new subscriber ) ...
Nice review. The G70 is a superb vehicle and I nearly bought one last year. In my humble opinion, they are as good as the Germans but cost less and have a longer warranty. I bought a Stinger instead as that costs less than the G70, has a longer warranty, is almost the same apart from design and cosmetic differences and is about 25k cheaper than the G70 here in Australia The equivalent Germans cost twice as much as the Stingers when specced up equivalently. I like all the vehicles from Genesis. Love my 2019 Genesis G80 sport. The newer models have definitely stepped it up most likely from the hired help. I now just keep looking at all the newer models...and the newer price tags. I'll be keeping my G80 as I just don't have the coin to upgrade, but I'll definitely be envious of the newer models. Now if only they could get a stand alone dealership. It really, really kills this otherwise luxury brand.
I'm gonna sub cause you did a detailed review of the interior Why pay 20k more for a base BMW or Mercedes, when you can save that money and get a fully loaded Genesis, which looks and drives just as good?
I thought about this car when its first cycle design came out, but the backseat space is what killed it for me. The one thing I wish Genesis did was the leave wheelbase alone. If they had just left the wheelbase alone and left it the same size as the Kia Stinger in sedan version, the G70 would have got my pick. The 2019-2021 model years had the manual in the 2.0T Sport engine. That was cool, but most will agree that if Genesis had put the manual in the 3.3T V6, not only would it have been more driver engaging, it probably would have helped in sales. We don't have to get on the manual transmission talk because we all know that Americans and Canadians of the mass market that are pro-automatic transmission are not into manuals these days like the small 20% of pro-manual transmission enthusiasts are in the U.S. and Canada are and the rest of the world on the 6 other continents, New Zealand, and Mexico, but that's a rant for another time. Besides not having full digital gauges or a flat-bottom steering wheel, even during its 3-year first cycle, it was good looking. The 2-year mid-cycle refresh took it to the next level with all of the updates and upgrades to the point where it almost seemed like a complete redesign. The Germans or The Japanese better start fearing the Koreans because Hyundai/Kia/Genesis has come to take their thunder and steal their crowns.
They’re probably saving that for the GV70 for now & they will implement that with the next-gen G70 hopefully. Or at least with a 2023 model year update in this generation
I work for Genesis. Say what you want but this brand is amazing. Comparing the over all vehicle to the other brands, Genesis is taking the cake in many ways. I drive a Mercedes C class. Im planing on getting a new vehicle. Of course one of my options is the new 2022 c300. Fantastic car, but when you look at the price point of the genesis and how much more thi gs you can get for less money, its really a no brainer. Im getting the 3.3t fully loaded g70 in a couple months. Can't wait!
I hated to hear that the rear headrest were not removable. The instructor vision and also if you fold the seats down I imagine they don’t lay flat and probably hit the front seats.
I have to disagree with your safety ratings. Cars are much less safe now with all the assists. It's allowing drivers to be less attentive to their job which is to drive the car. It doesnt' matter what car you have, electronics are NOT 100 % accurate, and the courts are not letting you out of tickets because "the car did it". Safety is still the drivers responsibility and giving them a false sense of security with "assists" is not helping, it's hurting.
The new safety features also have eye tracking to limit distractions. There are all kinds of warnings and some put on the 4-ways and slow the car down. These safety features have proven to reduce accidents. I do agree that safety is the drivers responsibility- the car just make the driving easier for the average driver who learns to pass the test.
@@CarCoachReports If drivers could be trusted to drive responsibly, I would agree. But 99.9% of the drivers will give up their responsibility and simply blame the car for accidents. If am sure they would be a great idea if people were responsible, but they're just not.
Looks great but I'm not sure about the value proposition with the 3.3L they are frequently at or above 60k which is cla 45 amg territory which arguably does everything ths g70 does but better. Faster/more power, better fuel economy with less cylinders looks better imo and interior is still above genesis. I do love the look tho. But with 3.3 should be low 50s.
This is a very very nice car, unfortunately the UK are badge snobs, so it's kind of a 3 horse race over here. The red quilted leather seats look ill. Everything looks high quality
This is just a refresh of the first generation so it's not a whole new generation Lauren. The overall shape is the same. The size is the same. I hope they do upsize the G70 a little bit in the next generation to give it more second row leg & head room, as well more cargo space bc the GV70 seems to be the more compelling car bc of its newer interior design with the multicolor ambient LED lighting, the 12.3" digital gauge cluster, more second row leg & head room, & a bigger trunk
All the things they ripped off from the Germans and they couldn’t make their own version of idrive? Seriously, it’s the most intuitive infotainment system on the market, imo and I’m not a lover of all things bmw.
I have to be honest, I don't like the refresh. It doesn't appeal to me aesthetically. First, that crest grille is yuck. The split headlamps are inelegant (they should stretch around much further). The pre-refresh G70 looked much better. And I miss the fog lamps. Second, I like that the pre-refresh G70 could be mistaken for a Bentley or Aston Martin. Borrowing aesthetic sensibilities from other brands is a Good Thing. Third, the rear end of the refreshed G70 is butt ugly (pun intended). The pre-fresh G70 looked much better. Fourth, the refreshed gauge cluster, which is half physical and half digital, is unappealing. Make it all-physical or all-digital but *don't* do half and half. (The blind spot imaging could've been placed in the center display.) Fifth, I liked the boomerang side vents on the pre-refresh G70. They gave the car a unique look. The refreshed G70 loses that uniqueness and could be mistaken for any other Genesis model. The 2022 G70 is still an excellent vehicle but it'll never get the same kind of love from me as in the pre-refresh G70.
You clearly are not speaking from a place of knowledge. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are absolutely quality vehicles. And the value is generally hard to beat in their markets.
Lol buddy I’ve owned a fleet of luxury sports sedans some much more than the g70 and man I love this car it is certainly on par with any German car in its segment If not better they did there thing on these new ones man.
From 1 individual and personal UK, England perspective, as a generalist evidential observation, you have to go to a zoo in the UK to see a Hyundai or Genesis vehicle! That evidence says a lot. The build quality is poor, real world mpg never great, safety insurance ratings average, along with overall ride and power delivery, being at very best an adequate. It is why they are not seen, not purchased that often and why they have a low percentage of the UK new market sales. My friends and random strangers when asking and discussing the subject you cover, instantly put Hyundai and even its Genesis upmarket branding, into a Skoda, Kia bracket (i.e. Lower end of car manufacturers). Prices for what you get in the UK are also high and why Asian car manufactures struggle to make a real indent into the UK market share. You can add lipstick, as the Genesis does, but it will not be taken out of the showroom for a romantic date. To compare with German or American mid-market manufactures, is to evidence a car journalists dislocation from expectation (Reality) and there are many motoring journalists and TH-cam channels currently trying to push the Genesis concept. The best thing Genesis can do is accept, the Old Testament was superseded by the New Testament and reinventing the wheel branding, by changing a name, says a lot about the brand name it originated from in the first place!
Just FYI, the Hyundai group is in the top 10 worldwide by sales, in the top 5 in quality in their main markets, and improving year by year specially during the last 10 years. The Genesis Brand was not in the UK until just a few months back now (maybe that's why are still rare), and no change on name for Hyundai, which roots go back to a steel manufacturer, ships, etc. from many many years. The Genesis Brand is a subdivision from Hyundai, as Lexus from Toyota, Acura from Honda and many, many other very succesfully brands, so no reinventing the wheel.
