Thanks for the Honest review. I have the 1911 L realo version (M) nib. The only regret I have is that it’s like width is thicker than my expectations. But agree on the price tag. Buying directly from a Japanese retailer helps to get it cheaper
I really love Pilot nibs, esp the larger #10 and #15. I just have so many, so was thinking of getting a 1911L…I have one Sailor pen, a pro gear slim with the typical medium-fine nib - which I really don’t love. I’m afraid I won’t love the 1911L nib either. Do you think all the sailor gold nibs are similar, as far as the writing experience goes?
I'm with you on a number of parameters: first, size. The 1911 Large is the smallest I would go so that let's out the standard and slim numbers. I often think of the "King of Pen" model but it has the same converter (second point). I'm Ok with converters but the capacity on this proprietary Sailor converter is a bit skimpy so that would being even more of a mismatch on the KOP. I live in the US so at least I had access to other finishes -- mine is "Seafoam" -- a light, translucent blue/green and the price was closer to the 823. Given a choice between the 823 and the 19ll Large? I've had my 823 continuously inked and in rotation for 5 years straight while the 1911 Large is in use for a few months every now and again.
Thank you! I felt like I was going crazy with how much praise I usually see for the 1911L. Here we only seem to get black or burgundy, with both gold or rhodium trim. I think you have the right idea with the 823 and will be looking to purchase one soon.
It's all in the nib. I prefer Sailor nibs, so all their pens seem perfect to me. My favorite pen is the Pro Gear Mini. Enjoy your 823 - I'm sure you can find someone to take this 1911L off your hands.
Your Channel Just came up on my feed I live in Sydney and I really would like to starts writing with a fountain pen as I journal my thought every day can you please advise me on what type of pen to buy and where from thank you a lot of information in your vids 🙌
I'd say if you are after your first pen, start simple, I'd recommend a twsbi eco (only takes bottled ink) or a pilot metropolitan which you can just use cartridges with to start. I'd suggest Pulp Addiction to buy from in Australia, usually good prices.

I'll try and test out a Pro Gear one day, they also look great and come in some cool colourways!
I too think it would be much nicer if it was long enough to use unposted. I guess then the nib would look even less proportionate.

Resin means injection moulded plastic. Not tree resin
