Bringing a 34 year old Sierra Cosworth back to life!

- My buddy Mike invited me to help him get his 1987 Sierra Cosworth from storage and get it started after 3 years of being sat under a cover! Was such a nostalgic experience and was great to see it purr into life!

It’s a survivor, Mike is spot on about not doing the bumpers, it’s never going to original again, and it’s value is in its originality but what a beautiful car

Go on Mike, Cossie Magic Mate. I'm in Florida but originally from Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire and doing a Merkur Xr4ti 1989 conversion to a Cossie Texaco tribute car had her ten years and it's time.

I had one exactly the same, in better condition with much lower mileage. Still had the original exhaust, and a complete spare system, spare steering rack, all original inc the expansion tank. I used to take it to classic car shows around the UK, Knebworth, Donnington, all over the place. I had many other spares too that I had been buying up for years at all the car shows I attended. As you know spares are hard to come by, they are as rare as rocking horse shit. I had half a dozen spare new headlights, rear lights, instruments, everything. You would not believe what I paid for the spares back in the 1990's. I always preferred them in diamond white. Mine was chipped too so it went like shit off a chrome shovel. It was never thrashed, and kept in a garage all it's life. I just used it at weekends as my fun car, having some burn ups with some boy racers, and taking it to shows. I had to let it go, I was getting divorced from a shit marriage. I loved mine with it's personalised plate. It drove like a dream. I had it up to 165 mph in Warwickshire on an empty carriageway early with no old bill about. I owned it for about 20 years and I miss it like hell. It broke my heart seeing her go, and I wish I still had it. I would still have it if it weren't for a shit marriage, which broke my heart, my sanity and my bank.
Bet you wish you still had the spare parts. They are selling for crazy money now. 👍

I got brought up around my dad having a 5 door ghia with the xr4i spoiler in light blue so these cossys are an absolute gorgeous piece of kit

Great video Gary and seeing that ford radio cassette took me back to my 1988 Fiesta XR2 and various other Fords I drove between 1985 to 1990 👍 I have just ordered a new (mid life update) Fiesta ST last week and will be reliving my youth when it is delivered in May or June 😀

Chances are I made part of that tractor as I used to work at the Tractor plant in Basildon. When this video started I thought wow an old cosworth I saw many of them in the car park at the tractor plant then bang a ford tractor. Double bonus video for me :)

I would be turning it very slowly after changing the oil, and making sure that the oil pressure was up.

Wow that took me back. Tried to persuade my Dad to get one of these but couldn't prise him away from his 2.8l and 2.9l Granadas he had 😊
Still never driven one but have sat it some special cossies , the first one i ever sat in was the 3 door Boreham development Sierra , the first EsCos I sat in was the 001 numbered monte and the first sapp i sat in was the last one off the production line , now to just actually drive one of them lol

Car Focused yes it’s a 1.8 LX so it’s more rare than a cosworth now! Sadly not worth as much lol. But I still love it.

Nice, always wanted a white 3 door.. Had a white S2 Escort Turbo in the early 90s, insurance on a Cossie then was a joke! Prices have certainly shot up..
Those extra injectors they used to put on them to get them up to 500hp they were the original beasts back in the day, great vid!

My favourite cosworth this Gary the sapph is nice but this is my favourite 😁 you will love driving it , it may feel old but they are lively once that turbo kicks in looks like its running stage 3 set up with dark green injectors 👍🏼👍🏼

Here in USA we have XR4Ti. I have boost controller, exhaust and fmic. Wish it had full cosworth bodywork and YB!
This car was well before my time so I probably won't appreciate it as much as others. The looks aren't to my personal taste but it sounds the absolute business! It's in fantastic condition too really.

Yeah, the great little electro fluorescent display, doors & tailgate went red when open, brake lights check & yellow or red snowflake on the roof for ice warning. If only modern cars had these..... the amount of Muppets driving around with brake light bulbs out. My old XR4i also had the matching fuel computer instead of the standard clock, although it was a mixed blessing to have 25mpg brightly lit in front of you, most of the time! .

Had a few of these and the sapphires when old man had car pitches but never floated my boat I preferred the 2.9 twin turbos we had for the sound and drive, I had a tickford Capri and sold it for 12k in 92 bloody makes me sick now looking back at the money, over a million quid gone including the e-types and old RS escorts that fetched nothing really back in the day 😢
I've got a 400 bhp sierra cosworth estate. Nothing pulls like a cossie 👍
