Hey Jan I need a list of the best team of 6 for each pokemon game being the newest versions like frlg and hgss Edit: Adding movesets and held items would also be appreciated
I did a Soul Silver nuzlocke before I started using rare candies, and there were moments I considered throwing just so I’d stop wanting to die when grinding
I play Pokemon normally and on emulator without Rare Candies, though in my defense, I didn't know what PKHEX was until I started watching this channel. And I still don't. Guess I must be locked up in a mental hospital by this logic.
Regardless of how other people feel, if you're using outside resources to affect your game, it's considered cheating. And I personally refuse to do that. If people can't handle the fact you need to grind in rpg games, they shouldn't be playing them in the first place. #ThisGuy #KeepingItReal #TheTRUTHHurts
14:02 Turns out you CAN fish from the walkway to the S.S. Anne (after showing the ticket etc), and it counts as a separate encounter, with "S.S. Anne" in the location field!
@@abarette_ Then set a level cap for it. You can still have the thrill of the randomizer experience if you don't overlevel. Besides, what's the most entertaining thing that could happen without rare candies? You can't catch half of the pokemon you find in the early game and trainer battles are already enough to scare you shitless with an unexpected move, pokemon, crit, etc. At the end of the day, an hour of grinding on low-level pokemon is an hour of grinding on low-level pokemon and it's not something worth looking forward to for both the streamer and the viewer. That's why pokemon challenges uses rare candies along with literally any other pokemon content creator
@Donut Apostle [7th of the Twelve] Level caps. There's hardly anything fun nor strategic about grinding 6 teammates, since the optimal play is fighting low level Pokemon to avoid crit deaths. Rare candies let you skip to the actual challenge of the game (gyms/E4), but you can optionally require fighting all trainers.
Its funny how Jan went from "I am the best nuzlocker" to "I am probably the best nuzlocker" to "Im a professional Nuzlocker" to " I have over 5000 hours of nuzlocke experience" xD
cause people like drxx exist and they are probably better nuzlockers, but Jan is still an amazing nuzlocker and a really entertaining content creator who keeps it real
You realize that grinding safety isnt actually a skill when you can grind on level 2s infinitely Even in full randomizers, only thing that can kill you at level 2 is sturdy + endevor + extremespeed cheese which you can avoid by fleeing from sturdy mons
Personally I'm fine with just hacking in rare candies, but I also like seeing people know how to EV grind safely, so 50/50 for me. Also some people just don't know, don't want to, or can't hack in rare candies in which case grinding is a skill once again.
I love how the editing was done on this one. Jan is talking the whole time, and everything shown is something that's worth commentating on, with nothing really sitting around between them, and as a bonus it still encourages people to go watch the original video.
"alakazam is...made of origami paper" bro, that's giving zam too much credit origami paper has structure and can maintain any given shape while zam gets pummeled by a faint breeze
I only knew it because I built a cheesy Gen 1 team in Platinum era and Corsola was in the same egg group as Blastoise so I needed one to get it for breeding. 😅
If you and wolfey do the soul link. A hardcore version would be so interesting not many people do soul links without items, set mode, and no overleveling. Though however randomizes feels like it’s only option only because lack of type diversity on routes otherwise since the same type rule is a big part of what makes the game hard because you usually won’t end up with a full team
@@El_Kanto imo, from how I’ve seen Jan react, I don’t think he’d keep the unique type ruling if he ever did a soul link. As for the game that they’d play, I think that they would do a drayano game, so that they could actually progress. I think a Kaizo(not notably) game would be too much since the early game is really repetitive.
@@auoie_YT as much as I love the concept, it's such a precise game to nuzlocke(at least the beginning you need perfect encounters) that I don't feel like that's possible, at least not to complete the series haha
I wish more people would actually use the power level settings in the randomizer more. You can force fully evolved pokemon and similar base stat totals and nobody uses it
@@neophyta ah yes, because when someone does a randomizer, gets to the pokemon league and all the trainers have are pre-evolutions, that's the most fun in a randomizer.
I've actually used the setting that forces fully evolved pokemon in the few randomizers I've done and it's just so much more fun, I don't understand why people don't. Maybe they don't bother looking at all the settings and don't know that it exists or something. Going against pre evolutions in late game just removes any possibility of challenge, it's so boring.
This is what I do in my hardcore randomizer lockes, have done for years. Also no legendaries, though sometimes I enable them for both trainers and encounters when I'm feeling in the mood.
25:10 after some calculations, assuming the lugia has 0 EVs with 8 hp IVs (112 hp) and 0 defense EVs or IVs, the feint attack was a guaranteed K/O. However, with 20 defense EVs and 15 defense IVs, that moves to a 44% chance to kill. The crit could have mattered.
I have a love/hate relationship with Jan but some lines keep me around. "Rip that bandaid off and tell your audience they're cringe if they try to backseat about it" 😂😂
the in-built balancing factor for randomised soul links, where unless you get astronomically lucky (withboth players encountering linked ubers and managing to catch them) a legendary will likely be tied to a much frailer pokemon makes them really interesting and less vulnerable to getting boring if the player gets a lucky encounter imo
Agree with the rare candy sentiment. Some, like MDB, have started using them so he can finish his runs quicker and tells us when he does. I don't see a problem with removing hours of gameplay if it means a better video and a less stressed/overworked content creator.
Removing EVs from roms is probably the best quality of life change for nuzlocking. It also helps justify candies instead of grinding since ideal grinding is tedious and unrewarding due to mons dying anyway
I'd really like to see Jan do a Soul Link with someone that's kind of worse at Nuzlockes in comparison, just because I think it'd be funny. Someone like Alpha or Mand, lmao
I totally agree with your stance on randomizers, the way I do them is that I don't have legendaries as random encounters at all to avoid the adventure being too easy. I like to have the random encounters and starters be randomized (starters base form with two evos) since what I like to do is test myself on how I can overcome what the game has when my usual options aren't available to me.
Is it weird that I figured you’d be like, way way serious, dry/dark humor, just bc you do so many nuzlockes? I didn’t expect the good nature and goofiness. Subscribed!!
I've been doing a randomizer where you use similar strength options as much as possible. This lets the game still follow its normal balancing and strength curve while allowing for a lot more variety than a vanilla game. I keep everything else vanilla but the difference in encounters alone make the games feel fresh.
Started doing all my runs with rare candies and I’ve never looked back, it’s so much more fun to actually just play around encounters instead of spamming a for an hour
Honestly playing rare candy nuzlockes is way more fun than grinding. Shut up stupid commenters and twitch chats, rare candies make nuzlockes much more enjoyable.
Something that would be really cool in my opinion would be a double battle soul lock. My friends and I did a 4 player sword/shield soul-link (works well since it is 4 to a dynamax raid) (we also imposed dupes clause among all of us, and fixed the starters by transferring the gen 1 and gen 7 starters and choosing from them) . That was fun, even if we decided the run was a loss because between piers and rihan we lost 8 mons total
watching Cjyas suffer trying to catch a pokemon makes me look back on how many times I tried to catch Moltres and in the end I caught in a great ball, the ultra balls failed most of the time
I agree with rare candies for most scenarios, for me though I think finding a good place to grind in a randomized is part of the fun/challenge. You aren’t grinding for 15 exp a pop on Poochyenas or some shit, you can get tons of exp from low level mons if you get a good Pokémon in the right spot
I lately played a randomizer without Legendaries on both Teamsides and it was actually pretty good. With the option that every pokemon on the enemy side above level 40 is fully evolved I still had some challenging battles.
I always though the Dupes Clause was optional. That if you are using it, you can choose whether to have it apply or not. Like if you have a Zigzagoon and find a another Zigzagoon, you have the option to catch it or look for a new encounter.
(Of the few that I’ve watched) this is my favorite react/advice video of Jan’s. Editing, too. I’m getting back into Pokemon after 20 years and am trying to learn the type chart. Learning about eggsecutor and stuff is great
Cjya struggling on relicant reminded me of the first time I caught, it was like trying to get a legendary. Actually, I had more luck with the legendaries in that playthrough
My condolences buddy, I lost my mom in 2020 and losing a parent changes u. Do your best to grieve in a healthy way because it’s very easy to slip into the bad kind of grieving in my experience. Good luck 👍
5:30 A possible flaw with your argument here, Jan: Rare Candies do not give EV's, and in the first couple routes of each region there is consistently one or more pokémon present for each EV type (which doesn't apply in randomizers, but otherwise...). Just something to consider depending on the playthrough in my personal opinion.
My nuzlockes to this point in time have always been randomised, but there's something I do that fixes the main issue with them. I employ the 'Use Similar Strength' option. This makes the randomisation process swap out Pokémon for another of similar power, such as Bidoof being swapped with Rattata. This allows you to have all the fun of a randomiser without gaining an uber and the game being too easy or fighting an uber and the game being unfair.
When it comes to randomizers with random items as well I think there could be a rule implemented that you can use items however you can't buy them makes them a valuable resource where you might want to consider sacking a pokemon instead of using a potion to heal
@@dogma32 yes since there's already the luck factor of random encounters anyway and it make people save the rarer ball for example luxury ball can be saved for a high friendship evolution I feel it'd be impossible with a bad randomizer as well just imagine never getting any balls
Anyone else want to see Jan do a soul link with Jaiden animations? Feel like that would be very funny. Wolfey would also be amazing but NGL it might be funnier to see Jan with someone bad. Wolfey might not be a nuzlocker but he still has great game knowledge
I look forward to seeing a soul link with PChan and Wolfy, it would be so cool! I think maybe a randomizer, randomized to similar strength mons, then the enemies aren't randomized. Also great video too!
Unsure if anyone has mentioned it before but another reason as to why milotic took that explosion so comfortably is because regices attack stat is tied with its speed being only at 50
Something this soullink and Jaiden and Alpharad's have in common: Doduo was linked to a legendary, and in both cases they were taken out by the last Elite 4 member.
As far as I know, Pchal and MandJTV have never made content together. Not once. Also, MandJTV is a child friendly poketuber. Pchal viewers are older, as he discusses more mature themes. He's said himself he doesn't want any children watching him.
@@neophyta Well that's exactly the reason. They are debatably the two most opposite poketubers out there, and pchal has specifically shown distaste towards Mikey in his reaction vids. I think pchal's jatedness towards nuzlocking combined with Mikey's hatred and inexperience would create an immensely entertaining dynamic.
@@Endersock15171 No, that way of thinking is entirely flawed. If they are opposites, they have nothing in common. They wouldn't be able to interact besides the bare bones narrative of the gameplay. The only reason Mandjtv works in videos with other Poketubers is because he knows them and they are friends. Imagine being forced to play a game with a pretty much total stranger, it wouldn't be entertaining it would be awkward. Not to mention their content and video styles are so different, their personalities are different. It just wouldn't work.
@@neophyta You ever heard of the saying, "opposites attract"? People say that for a reason. From what I can tell after watching both of them a lot, they have juuuust enough in common for all of their differences to be entertaining.
@@Endersock15171 How? What would be entertaining. They have nothing in common besides being poketubers. Pchal makes more mature content, nuzlockes primarily. Mandjtv makes content that is more towards kids. Mandjtv would not upload a video that has Pchal swearing in. Pchal wouldn't upload a video where Mandjtv was just being there, child friendly. Mandjtv has high energy, lots of edits and tries to make the viewer laugh more. Pchal is more laid back, trying to provide smooth entertainment for older audiences with less blatant editing. If the video was on Pchal's channel, it probably wouldn't appeal to as many Mandjtv fans due to the more subtle editing. Vice versa for Mandjtv's channel. I also forgot to mention, pchal viewers don't all watch mandjtv due to his appeal to younger audiences and Pchal's to older. It literally just does not work. How is it hard to understand? Purplecliffe and Pchal work better, as they have communicated before. Im pretty sure both Mandjtv and Pchal are unwilling to do a collab with eachother due to: lack of communication, not having good synergy, and different attitudes. Its been stated, it will never happen because it would not work.

I always though the Dupes Clause was optional. That if you are using it, you can choose whether to have it apply or not. Like if you have a Zigzagoon and find a another Zigzagoon, you have the option to catch it or look for a new encounter.
So won’t soul links be really cool to do when Scarlet and Violet come out? Isn’t is supposed to be multiplayer?
I hadnt thought about that 🤔
Just depends on how good the co op is I guess
Also, I think a bigger question is how will encounters work in an open world game? Will nuzlocking even be possible in Scarlet and Violet?
Well its probably gonna be incredibly easy and boring for anyone who has played a pokemon game before.
Oooh that’s an excellent point!
Pchal and Wolfey Soullink Emerald Run and Bun or Radical Red might be the most important pokemon content since 2014 worlds 😂 That would be ELITE
Thank you Jan, my father just died, can't wait to get this for him for Father's day
My condolences buddy, I lost my mom in 2020 and losing a parent changes u. Do your best to grieve in a healthy way because it’s very easy to slip into the bad kind of grieving in my experience. Good luck 👍
@@HarveyMeadowlark thank you, I just kinda did this as an out of seasons joke for me, but I appreciate it none the less
5:30 A possible flaw with your argument here, Jan: Rare Candies do not give EV's, and in the first couple routes of each region there is consistently one or more pokémon present for each EV type (which doesn't apply in randomizers, but otherwise...). Just something to consider depending on the playthrough in my personal opinion.
put vitamins in as well as rare candies.
Congrats on becoming a dad with these crispy jokes. Nice work upholding the stereotype XD
CJ: I have no fear
Also CJ: gets wiped out
🤣🤣😂😂
My nuzlockes to this point in time have always been randomised, but there's something I do that fixes the main issue with them. I employ the 'Use Similar Strength' option. This makes the randomisation process swap out Pokémon for another of similar power, such as Bidoof being swapped with Rattata. This allows you to have all the fun of a randomiser without gaining an uber and the game being too easy or fighting an uber and the game being unfair.
23:16 “I’m standing in front of _master_ Kogha a made me smile
your ad reminded me of father’s day lol i’m the worst son ever
My favorite line in this video was the "blend in" "einblenden" mix up early on 😄
your vids inspired me to start my first nuzlocke on white, 5 badges in with only 3 pokemon lost so far!
When it comes to randomizers with random items as well I think there could be a rule implemented that you can use items however you can't buy them makes them a valuable resource where you might want to consider sacking a pokemon instead of using a potion to heal
thats a decent idea. so potions and status restores are a rare find then. how would that work with pokeballs? are pokeballs still shop items?
@@dogma32 yes since there's already the luck factor of random encounters anyway and it make people save the rarer ball for example luxury ball can be saved for a high friendship evolution I feel it'd be impossible with a bad randomizer as well just imagine never getting any balls
@@harryh4h720 ahhh okay. unique setup for a run either way, i like it. gl with your runs.
Anyone else want to see Jan do a soul link with Jaiden animations? Feel like that would be very funny. Wolfey would also be amazing but NGL it might be funnier to see Jan with someone bad. Wolfey might not be a nuzlocker but he still has great game knowledge
25:38 this is a face of Undead that knows what he mustn't do but does it anyway
I look forward to seeing a soul link with PChan and Wolfy, it would be so cool! I think maybe a randomizer, randomized to similar strength mons, then the enemies aren't randomized. Also great video too!
Unsure if anyone has mentioned it before but another reason as to why milotic took that explosion so comfortably is because regices attack stat is tied with its speed being only at 50
grinding /gameplay/ is only worth watching if the person is talking about interesting things, but would always prefer them using candies
Gotta love the shade the editor throws in some of these newer episodes. Actually hilarious
Found this guy a week ago and he's easily one of the best PokeTubers
Alpharad is now a staple in Nuzlocke videos I love it!
Something this soullink and Jaiden and Alpharad's have in common: Doduo was linked to a legendary, and in both cases they were taken out by the last Elite 4 member.
I think you and Wolfey should do an EK Soullink... If it's even winable
29:55 the universal randomizer already fixes this issue (getting ubers etc.) if you set it up right, but it (probably) also makes it less hype
Wolfie Jan Soul Link. They both upload and each one reacts to the others gameplay :v
When he claims to be bad at TH-cam outro's, but absolutely nails it
What I wouldn't give to see a soulink between Pchal and MandJTV
"No! It has counter!"
Deja vu fr
I was hoping you’d react to this, I died watching it.
