oh that clip was hilarious. i got the feeling that most of these Nuzlockers never played the older generation Pokemon games, as a lot of the abilities worked completely differently in generation 3, than how they work today.
Sturdy for example, only effected actual OHKO moves. moves with the names: Fissure, Horn Drill, Guillotine and Sheer Cold. It was in generation 5, that the ability was changed to allow the Pokemon to survive on 1HP, if it would be knocked out, from "Full HP" from any attack in the game. Basically Focus Sash!

Just for viewer engagement, I would suggest another round but with vanilla games only. That way a higher viewer count can also "play along" with the contestants.
yea i was assuming itd be about vanilla games, but thats probably cause the one i watch the most by a huge margin is flygon hg lmao. I could be wrong but if it was vanilla games i feel like he wouldve crushed since he has so much experience playing all the games so many times doing all those monotype runs while the others do mostly romhacks that take alot of time away from getting more runs done overall

Before the first time appeared I jokingly screamed "Cynthia!!" and when her team faded in I laughed so hard
I'm genuinely impressed with myself for guessing Marley's team from Renegade Platinum before these guys despite having _never_ done a full playthrough of that romhack. I just remembered that she specialises in high Speed mons and took the shot off of that.
I guessed Courtney, then, when the answer showed up I was like "oh yeah there's an Arcanine that's kinda her thing huh".
Interestingly that team there is actually the one she fights you with in Platinum if you remove the Sceptile & Starmie and replace them with a Ninjask.

Another banger video! This one was such a delight. Can confirm, filling out that type chart is trickier than it looks, even if you have all the types memorized in practice: I took a crack at it after finishing this video and only remembered the one type combo I was missing with less than a minute left. (It was that ice is super effective against flying, lol)
Sometimes it's hard to remember that Ice is good for something lol
@@Fabiocean2000 in my mind ice is there for garchomps and other dragons to be highly allergic to it and not much else
I dislike rock types, so it probably shouldn't be surprising that I forgot rock is good against bug. Got all the rest though.
When I saw the Camerupt team, I thought it was going to be "wild encounter". Also, I expected you to pull a fast one on them and include either Tate or Lisa's team, separate from the other.
That would've been a good one to include; take one of their PWT teams. Though I'd bet the Solrock/Lunatone would give it away.
At 11:53 Machamp also takes resisted/neutral damages from houndoom so I think it's random between miltank and machamp but I'm not sure I don't really know about Gen2
This was a lot of fun to watch! I've only nuzlocked a couple of vanilla games, and I'm currently trying my hand at Radical Red, but I've watched so much footage from you guys lol

i would like to suggest a game of pokemon scattergories with categories like pokemon name (possibly even bug type pokemon), location, move, ability, item, character; that sort of thing i feel like the chaos that could come from it would be very fun
I am already proud that I managed to get a few of the teams in the first section before the pros did
Most people: Would be embarrassed by telling a popular youtuber to use onix against a Jynx in a nuzlocke
Kidd: Proceeds to milk the heck out of that clip and considers it his defining moment

Wait, if the reasoning Miltank comes in is because it's not weak to Houndoom's STAB and has a super effective move, how is Machamp's Dynamic Punch not considered? Doesn't it have a higher base power than EQ?
only a blind guess from a not-experienced nuzlocker, but accuracy/power average? Example numbers: 120 base power, 50% accuracy averages out to 60 damage per turn before pokemon stats are factored in and comes out to less than a 70 base power move that hits 100% (or near enough to make rounding vs slightly more complicated numbers) of the time. 120>70, but 60 average
Miltank comes in first because of the team order.

@@otterex Like i said, merely a guess. I am very likely wrong, but the flip side of your counterpoint comes in 2 parts: first, when were abilities introduced again? I started in gen 3, and they have been present ever since, but i thought i heard that they were not introduced until gen 3. By that logic, gen 2 AI will not account for it unless we are talking about romhacks that "retroactively" introduce them. The second point is just the unknown minutia of the AI in general. He already threw a "hidden power is always seens as normal by AI, regardless of actual type" twist, so again the AI might ignore something as obvious as abilities.
Just to be clear, still just speculation. I have no clue how true any of what ive said is, but i wanted to take a swing, regardless of how wildly off i was.

yep, in Omega Ruby she only has a Camerupt, so he was correct too
12:05 wouldnt the same apply for machamp? it hits super effective and is neutral against stab from houndoom
This is correct. i have no clue why they weren't both correct. I understand it not being ttar as HP is treated as Normal type in the gen, however not only does houndoom *lose* to machamp on the dark side, since machamp *resists* dark, but machamp is also *neutral* to houndoom's fire type moves, and it *also* hits houndoom for fighting type super effective damage. By all means, if any, machamp would be prioritized by smart ai.
@@176463 my theory is it multiplies power with accuracy to get an average, so milktank has 100 avg with earthquake but because of 50% accuracy machamp has 50, and abilities didn't exist in gen 2 so no guard doesn't apply.

Im confused. Houdoom STABs are fire and dark, why would the AI send in a Milktank with the reason of "neither fire nor dark are super effective against miltank", when it has a machamp, that resists dark?
If both pokemon have super effective moves and isnt weak to houndooms stab then the ai will go team order

In gen 3 and maybe 4, sturdy only worked against one hit knock out moves like fissure and sheer cold, then it got changed to if the pokemon is at full hp and would faint, it lives on one

Never done a single nuzlocke and cant even do any of the special games cuz no pc, but i still woulda done better than whacko in the first section. I wouldve taken both whitney and lorelei from them, and i said Candice at almost the exact same time as the other two did, but i think i was second on that one. Not bad for a guy who hasnt played the games seriously in a long time haha
12:10 Machamp is also not weak against houndoom's STAB moves (even resisting dark), while he has a super effective rock smash/dynamic punch to land.
If anything, miltank threatens to hit his secondary type super effectively while machamp hits his main type super effectively.

I was doing pretty well with the MB questions until the infernape one. I thought it would be Lucario cause I see it having 4x damage plus stab and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any specific weakness to aggron.
Now I'm curious on how well I'd do on that type chart quiz as well
I'm guessing that the Gen 4 AI goes in for supereffective rather than resisances beforehand, according to what Captain Kidd explained, therefore making it Infernape and Lucario both being 4 x supereffective with Fighting, and Neutral with either Fire or Steel. So I suppose Infernape comes in first solely because it is before Lucario in the roster... Otherwise, I thought the same as you, Lucario is actually more resistant as Rock is neutral on Infernape, Steel is resisted by Infernape. While Rock is resisted by Lucario and Steel is also resisted by Lucario.
alright here's what happened. Every pokemon in the back has a quad effective move, so it then goes to type matchups.
The way it's calculated is calculating the effectiveness of each pokemon's types against Aggron.
Infernape gets a score of quad + neutral. Lucario also gets a score of quad + neutral. (Machamp gets quad + quad, but that causes overflow and it's ranked below quad + neutral)
With a tie between Lucario and Infernape, it goes by team order and Infernape is sent out.
@@galaxystudios370 Ooohh, okay. That makes sense cause I had it down to infernape and Lucario when I was watching. I picked Lucario because it would be a special attacker and aggron is a physical tank. I can see how a computer wouldn't acknowledge that though.

On the houndoom question at 11:53, why is machamp an incorrect answer? Is it because it’s later in the party than miltank? Because machamp is both resistant to dark and neutral to fire STAB moves and has two super effective attacks.
It considers speed too.

I feel like the Camerupt team question should've had two correct answers because in all of Courtney's battles in Omega Ruby, she uses a sole Camerupt, except for the last battle in the Delta Episode where it's a Mega instead.

HP rock is seen as just Hidden Power and, therefore, a normal type move. Meaning that Tyranitar "doesn't have any super-effective moves"
This was a violation
