How to be a Big Mek part 1: Converting monopose Ork Boyz for 40K

- We show you how to convert Warhammer 40,000 minis to save money building your army. In this first episode we show you the new monopose Ork Boyz and how to convert them.
One material you could employ is thin jewelry chain. Attach it to where a snipped-off melee weapon would go, and make it rigid using superglue in a pose of your choice. Or wrap it around arms or legs, or hanging from a belt. If the seam between another swapped bit seems too noticeable, a bit of chain wrapped around can disguise it. Extra gubbins hide a multitude of sins.
This new monopose boyz kit sure made me appreciate the old boyz kit.
Some very cool hints and tips here.
I worry about the future of Ork kits though.
The older kits are full of extra bitz, but the modern kits have barely any options of extra/spare parts.
The bitz boxes of the future are going to be very small. 😒
While very true in a sense of the easy to build kits, the full detail kits still have spares, and the Kill Teams are loaded. It's just going to come down to your mix of kits as to the size of your stash.
@DaRedWunzGoFasta this is true. Just with kits like the new Boyz and Beast Snaggas, there is very little spare bits left over compared to older multipart kits.
Not to mention the various buggies.
I worry that as time passes and those classic kits we have become so accustomed to get phased out we are going to have far less bits for kitbashes and conversions.
And that will be a sad day indeed.

@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Great! I love getting more out of the boxes, currently I am trying to find a way to have a banner dude with a weapon for my custodes army without having to buy a box of wardens just to make that happen
@Pubmaster32 the standalone Primaris Ancient comes with 2 banners but I prefer the weird Sister of Battle banner bearer that comes with a psyker. It's a great banner and that model can be found super cheap.
@@DaRedWunzGoFastaI'd really like to scratch build a vehicle but I only have enough to make one boy without legs and not many arm choices, so I'm basically stuck to random cardboard and toys i can disassemble, what vehicle and how?
Ork Boyz are the last thing that need monoposible minis, they’re probably the one faction that can’t get away with your standard file and rank uniforms, really wish they gave them more customisation!! Thanks for your tips

Just wanted to add, that for converting some of those monopose Shoota Boyz, a good option might be some of the leftover arms feom the Kommandos kit (specifically, when they are built with the full Kill Team loadouts and you end up with leftover Choppa/Slugga arms).
Currently in the middle of doing this conversion, but you could cut down to the grip portion of the Shoota, and add the Slugga barrel part onto the front of it (as you showed in this video). It ends up with the Slugga being held very close in to the Boyz' torsos, but I play this off as the Boyz copying John Wick 😁
You could then switch the whole other arm for a Kommando Choppa arm, although this would need some green stuff work to llug the inevitable gaps between the Kommando arms and the Boyz torso sections.
If the headhole is too deep you can fill it with sand or something then glue it down.
Just thinking on the spot: Isn’t it possible to convert the mono pose shoota boyz to hold the rocket launcher from the multi pose kit? Haven’t had a look myself, since all my mono pose boyz are unbuilt, but maybe that’s even an option. Ork boyz are a versitile lot. Keep on making waaaghsome videos!

I might actually play 40k and I got a couple cheaper combat patrols. Is mixed squads of orks with shootas and some with choppas fine?

With da Shoota boyz did youz consider cutting the shoota at the same spot as da rest of da daka and then cutting dems other arm at da elbow?
I did! Unfortunately a lot of the body itself is molded into the shoota on deez boyz. Youz could do it, but it's surgery only the hardiest of Mad Doks would attempt.
