The five most traded currencies in the World are the USD, Euro, Yen, GBP and AUD. China trades ninth at 4%. Europe at during the early decades of the twentieth century, shares little resemblance to the West, one hundred plus years later. Russia’s only strength is its nuclear weapons. The West’s mistake was the scale to which it moved its manufacturing and technologies to China. China never was going to be an up-sized Germany or Japan.

But we do know why the Marshall Islands were targeted as test-bed for Nuclear WMD - which affected many lives who depended on fishes for meals on table. We also know that many were affected by Agent Orange back in 1973 and the countless of People who dies or amputated due to millions of Landmines, which make land not arable.

The West had the opportunity to set up a proper rules-based international system at the end of the Cold War. The West wanted to tackle more complex problems than what could be done according to the rules like e.g. the allegations about Saddam's WMD and later the Iranian nuclear program. But what the West ended up doing amounted to bending the rules of the existing system, twisting the arms of Russia and China to get along and support UNSC resolutions under Chapter 7 when it was not appropriate to invoke Chapter 7.
It would have been far better to have set up a new arbitration system where neutral international law judges would hear cases that would be referred to it by the UNSC instead of the the US and Britain ended up being an involved party, police officer, prosecutor, and judge at the same time in a case like the Iraqi WMD issue. But far from setting up such a system, even the existing system was ultimately not good enough. The cat and mouse games involving inspections of Saddam's presidential palaces in the 1990s were bad enough, but in 2003 the US and Britain could not accept findings of the UN weapon inspectors who were doing their jobs under the rules that the US and Britain themselves had proposed after some arm twisting to get Russia and China to agree.
The Iran nuclear case is a similar story. Ideally such an issue is handled best by an independent court where evidence provided by the US, Israel etc. can be examined. Short of that we have the IAEA, but the US argument back in 2002 was that Iran was skirting the rules and formally staying inside the rules but still working toward a nuclear weapons capability. The US used a procedural trick to get the IAEA to refer Iran to the UNSC. Once the dossier was at the UNSC, the US exerted pressure on Russia and China to get along with UNSC resolutions banning Iran to enrich uranium.
This led to an escalation of the dispute with Iran, a decade later a deal was agreed to, the JCPOA, that was along the lines that Iran itself had proposed at the start of the dispute in 2002. But in 2002 when the EU and Iran were seeing eye to eye on such a solution, the US blocked it, saying that Iran can never be allowed to enrich any uranium.
These and other issues the West has pursued, ended up creating a precedent for strong countries being the police officer, prosecutor, jury, and judge in conflicts they themselves are involved in. Either all countries have the right to act on their own judgments and then e.g. declare that a president of another sovereign country has to leave office on their say-so, or no country has the right to make such decision themselves. The West chose the former (thinking that de-facto all = only the West) and is now paying the price for that.

@@Boriqua76 The West is not at fault when it condemns Russia for invading Ukraine. One may, for argument's sake, assume that the West was not wrong to pursue a case against Iraq about its suspected WMD programs in 2002. The issue is then simply one of being an involved party in a dispute, prosecutor and judge at the same time. It's not a matter of being right or wrong in that dispute. If one ends up in such a role for noble reasons, then that ends up setting a precedent. Other actors can later end up doing an intervention based on their own judgment, and it's then inevitable that there will be cases where some party intervenes somewhere for deeply flawed reasons.

I see what you did there with Cuba, but to compare it to Ukraine is just ridiculous, US explicitly denied sending to Ukraine any long range rockets exactly for this reason, let alone nuclear armed. Ah and yes Russia is still suppling conventional weapons to Cuba, should they also stop doing it just because US has nukes?!

What made things worse is that absolute majority of non-Western world rejected to support US in Ukraine. This is what Germany communicated to Austria-Hungary when it consulted their treaty ally. Had Germany not wanted war, they could have dissuaded Austria-Hungary from going to war against Serbia and precipitate war. This was unlike when in 1913 Russia consulted British Foreign Secretary Edward Grey. He dissuaded Russia against precipitating war over Serbia. Russia's war in Ukraine was not inevitable. The West's failure to incorporate Russia into the European architecture has precipitated this war. The chess pieces were moved in such a way as to make the war inevitable.

In a not so distant future, intelligent life from another galaxy will be excavating and studying the ruins of our failed civilization.
