Love that you have the wire haired teckels. I am a German hunter, and we also use them for every kind of game. The young Teckel from my local forester actually killed a young wild boar this year. Granted, the wild boar was really young and small, but still the Teckel killed it while it was bigger than himself - imagine what kind of boar a bigger dog would have to manage if they also were to get one that is bigger than themselves!
Teckel are known for their good nose here. Many of them arent used on badger anymore, but indeed on search like you do.
Funnily enough, I actually have an American breed now instead of a German one that I want to train on search - and one that is extremely rare in Germany now, I have one from the first litter in Germany since 5 years - a Plotthound. I can really learn something from your videos.
    Greets from Germany!

Another great posting Damon, thanks! Always amazing to see the incredible 'toughness' of the whitetail deer; that doe! I'm sure anyone starting out with a young dog will find this very educational. Not being familiar with wirehaired, I don't know how quickly they mature. My BMH has taken 2+ years to settle down for tracking. Now she is more methodical on the line. One difference is that my dog is always quiet on the line. Only exception is if the animal, bear or deer, is alive and down. Then she barks when close to quarry.
The J-hook in the line is something I've seen many times, definitely worth noting. And your advice that the dogs natural hunting instinct being the central point to focus on in working as a team with a new dog is also really helpful. Perhaps especially for someone with little experience training hunting dogs.
And it was also a good example of how "you never know!" on a track. So often the hunter thinks it will be an easy track...when every so often it's way longer than anticipated...sometimes they get away!

Thanks Eli and glad you found it educational. Teckels do mature slowly in my experience with Jaeger. There's a notable personality change around 2 years old, and physically they stabilize in growth around then too. It's funny how even veterinarians see them and say at a year old 'he's done growing', and I say, um, not even close. Learning why and when tracking dogs vocalize is very very important for the handler, and I do believe so much of practice and training isn't for the dog at all, its for us to learn them.

Great job Grizzly! It is such a joy to watch these Teckels perform what they are bred to do.

A separate question, I assume you use a GoPro for filming? What do you use as a method to hold the camera?

I do use a GoPro, yes. and a Polar Pro Traverse/Strap mount that lets me mount it to a sling or backpack shoulder strap so it's like a chest mount.

Have him keep hunting it will give you alot of practice with your dogs!!! Well didnt realize a new hunter.
He should have been taught by someone before going out !!!
