Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning in. For this trip me and Monty visited a little hill on the edge of the Ochil Hills called Dumyat. Now this is my first visit to this stunning area and I really enjoyed it. The hike was mainly dry but the rain came down very heavily during those last 100 metres. The wind speed on the summit was easily 50MPH when we arrived and easily 30MPH when we did eventually set up the tent at our sheltered spot.
As you'll see the camp had a mixture of rain and snow mostly turning wintry overnight. The wind was no issue as we found shelter and it was a good decision for a more relaxed camp away. Hope you enjoy the video and the trip!

This would’ve been a much longer video but unfortunately my mic let me down for this trip. You’ll notice that the clips are muted at the start because of the wind noise that was picked up on the mic. Invested in a new mic for future trips.

Great wee hill for a camp. I can understand why people enjoy walking it from the different car parks. The locals are lucky to have this hill on their doorstep. ATB Gaz.

Great wee camp Kevin. I was surprised that Dumyat had some good camping spots. I've always been told to avoid it but it's a great wee hill for a camp. I want to do a hill walk in the snow on a clear day now. The views always look great with some snow cover. atb gaz

It’s a bit of luck getting the snow on a camp. It’s a windy one tonight basically everywhere on the summits. I only get out once a week at the moment so I just take what the weather throws at me. Hope you get a chance to get a camp in snow before summer👍 ATB

You don’t have to come up with things to talk about. Just let the sounds of the rain be heard. Excessive talking sometimes isn’t good. It feels more like a talk show rather than connecting with nature. 🥰

I love just the sound at times, I watched the one where are with a couple other guys at the side of the lock, you did a one nighter the others , one called steve I think, they did two nights, the sound of the rain hitting the tent is just so good lol

Another nice video Gaz. It's unfortunate that the wild weather which makes for such interesting content also makes it so difficult to film. I've been out in some conditions where I've barely been able to stand up, and when I did get the camera out either the lens would be obscured or the wind noise was horrendous - or both! I'm not sure what mic you have bought. I've seen one from Joby which looks decent, although I'm not sure if it is compatible with the GoPro.
Not really an issue I suppose as I'm not one for talking, it's more for background noise.
I’ve had a go with the new microphone on my recent trip which will be up on Thursday. Have to say it was a much better video to edit in terms of getting the audio to a reasonable standard. Once again it was a windy trip but we were off the hills.
As for this trip I agree that the conditions can be a little difficult to film in. A lot of occasions I had to change batteries mid way through filming. I’m surprised I got a reasonable video out of this trip but editing it was not very fun. Thanks James ATB Gaz .

I’ve never felt the cold in the Ascent yet. It certainly was cold inside the tent If I was not in the sleeping bag. Temperatures dropped down to -1 that night. ATB

It’s a sleeping bag but can be used as a quilt too. It is quite big to be fair.
