The biggest Jennifer's issue is the need to prove herself all the time. On the other hand, Beyoncé seems to be more confident to 'play' with her voice and she acknowledges that.
To be fair, Beyonce can fall off the stage and her fans still love her. Jen has a tough crowd to please and it's hard for powerhouse vocalists like that, because people just expect more and more. Beyonce relies on her technique but because of Jen's environment, she relies on her pure power (and she has more power than Bey, lets not lie to ourselves).

Jennifer Hudson can sing and there is clearly no doubt about it. Admittedly I’m not an avid follower of hers however, based on what I have seen it’s not for me. I’m not a singer, so I don’t know about techniques & ability but, as a listener, her voice is too loud, has too much vibrato or is too growly at times. I’m no more a fan of Beyoncé than I am of Jennifer Hudson, but Beyoncé’s voice just seems more melodic. By that, I mean her voice seems to float effortlessly from one note to the next. Combine this with the fact she can dance, is reported to be a nice person and is absolutely stunning, I can see why she gets called Queen Bey! Jhud and Bey have the same range. Bey has agility and control matched with a smooth pop-friendly sound, while Jhud has power, emotion and rawness. Jhud's voice is a lot more gospel which is a more stylized type of singing - the strong vibrato and glottal attack critized in the video is simply something gospel singers preferably use as artistic choice. Bey is more harmonic and smooth - so more pop/r'n'b according to her girl group background. The two are simply very different styles of singing.

it's because she has a *gospel* tone. When you have a *gospel* tone it's hard sometimes to crossover. A lot of *gospel* music are *ballads* and that's not always good in the field of *pop* music. She's trying to become more *theatrical* to give her voice a *different texture* and for me it's working. She even hit a *whistle* this year.

The ear tends to lean towards Beyonce because her voice is "cleaner". Note by note, Beyonce will usually win because she is more accurate and clear. Jennifer totally relies on that "churchy" sound and you'll just rarely hear her sing with an open throat. She will clench every bit of air out of a tight space to hit the notes rather than relax to it and pull more from the lungs, but that's her style. Jennifer's voice is about the context.

TBH Beyonce doesn't really have "bad clips" a few videos may show "her worst" but her worst aren't even some peoples best. Jhud is a beast. Love both women. I wish they would of used newer Jhud material. Obviously Beyonce has an upper hand with the amount of time she has in the game and although I think technique wise Beyonce will always win, I think Jen would of came closer with those newer clips. Jhuds weapon is her power. She can pull a Patti and sing without a mic. I love to see the growth between the two. The maturity in Beyonce voice and tone is quite impressive. Beyoncé is a mezzo soprano. Jennifer Hudson is a soprano, so they are naturally going to sound a lot different in comparisons on the same notes. Jen’s notes 📝 won’t sound as good in the low register and Beyoncé will sound better in the lows just naturally because of their voice types...same in high but the opposite...Surprised she didn’t mention voice type in this video?

Quality of sound and range is not tied to a voice type. It is affected waaaaaaaaaaaay more by the technique of the singer.

Jhud's voice is a lot more gospel which is a more stylized type of singing - the strong vibrato and glottal attack critized in the video is simply something gospel singers preferably use as artistic choice. Bey is more harmonic and smooth - so more pop/r'n'b according to her girl group background. The two are simply very different styles of singing.

I'm not denying Jennifer's talent but she does very little for me. While her tone isn't particularly pleasant (or unique among gospel singers), I don't "feel" her singing. She's an unbelievably skilled singer but a rather bland artist
it's because she has a *gospel* tone. When you have a *gospel* tone it's hard sometimes to crossover. A lot of *gospel* music are *ballads* and that's not always good in the field of *pop* music. She's trying to become more *theatrical* to give her voice a *different texture* and for me it's working. She even hit a *whistle* this year.

I feel like most videos done are bias. The competitor is on for a three second clip while the person they clearly like better is on longer. They seem to use videos when the person first started their career like Jennifer Hudson on like American idol versus a fully recognize Beyoncé’s after destiny’s child. No question Beyoncé is super amazing and Jennifer Hudson is in her own right as well. However Jennifer Hudson seems to have a more husky voice and it’s completely different than Beyoncé’s. Note by note, Beyonce will usually win because she is more accurate and clear.
Jennifer totally relies on that "churchy" sound and you'll just rarely hear her sing with an open throat. She will clench every bit of air out of a tight space to hit the notes rather than relax to it and pull more from the lungs, but that's her style. Jennifer's voice is about the context.

TBH Beyonce doesn't really have "bad clips" a few videos may show "her worst" but her worst aren't even some peoples best. Jhud is a beast. Love both women. I wish they would of used newer Jhud material. Obviously Beyonce has an upper hand with the amount of time she has in the game and although I think technique wise Beyonce will always win, I think Jen would of came closer with those newer clips. Jhuds weapon is her power. She can pull a Patti and sing without a mic. I love to see the growth between the two. The maturity in Beyonce voice and tone is quite impressive. I'm just a huge fan of both ladies. I grew up in church so I get "Jhud's" power and belts, it's soothing for me but can be a lot for people who either are not used to it. Again both ladies killed it and are amongst some of the best in history.
