The exorcist 3 hospital scene is the best ever jump scare. The set up, the still camera, the time just passing by making you drop your guard, then the best payoff with the screeching sound effect and zoom in camera. Top class
And the fakeout scare with the patient right before the ACTUAL jump scare made it even better. You think everything is cool, feel that sense of relief and then BOOM.
That part scared me so bad it made me shit a book, on how to puke.
I hate this movie. Its only known for this jump scare. Most kills are off screen. And the priest really has one scene.

I’ve watched that scene in exorcist 3 and it is great but I’ve never seen the full film and now that I know damher watched it with some victims to get in the mood to kill and it was part of his ritual I really don’t want to ever watch it lol is it worth skipping?
I didn't know there were monsters in The Descent so when we got that jump scare...HOLY CRAP. I nearly peed myself in the theater lol

Yeah dude, saw The Descent in theaters and that first half freaked me out. Even more than the second half. As I've gotten older, I'm way more claustrophobic.
Honestly Shudder is the only platform I'm subscribed to lol, inexpensive and I feel their foreign horror selection is *chefs kiss*. As silly as it is when I was getting into horror one of the first watches was The Blair Witch Project and that end scene gave me chills for the longest time, it really sticks to your soul. Loving the regular content lately Cody 👌🙂
And as someone who has gone caving, The Descent really HITS the claustrophobic element perfectly.

Exorcist 3
Sinister - the lawnmower scene. Oh my god that scared the crap out of me. What helps is Ethan Hawke's horrified reaction.
It Follows - the part where the guy comes up through the hallway. It's great because the lighting messes with you. Your eyes adjust too little too late before you finally see it. Very effective
The Exorcist 3 jumpscare almost made me shit my pants the first time, not even joking. It’s one of the best of all time.
A few of my scariest/most impactful moments:
-The reveal of The Tall Man in It Follows
-Chucky coming to life for the first time in Child’s Play
-Helen meeting Candyman for the first time in the parking garage
-The opening scene of Midsommar (tho walking into it blindly shortly after the death of my bff might have something to do with the way it deeply disturbed me)
-Pearl’s monologue in Pearl
-The torture scene in Audition
Oh, and that scene in The Strangers where one of the intruders is just silently watching Liv Tyler as she hangs out and has a cigarette in the kitchen. I still get the heebs sometimes when I go out for a cig at night 😂
Awesome dude. So happy to see The Dark and the Wicked mentioned. That movie made my jaw drop, particularly the scene where the dude finally leaves to go see his family.
The ending of Intruder I really enjoyed!! It wasn't expected at all
The Bravo version of this is what got me into horror when I was like 16/17. It peaked my curiosity on the genre and I’ve never turned back

Exorcist 3 is fantastic. Never saw 2. George C. Scott was at his crustiest/grumpiest, Brad Dourif was amazing and the visuals were great. The dude in the wheelchair that flashes the nurse is still is one of the funniest random sequences lol

That jump scare competes with the blood test scene from The Thing and Jason coming out of the water at the end of Friday the 13th 1980 for the best jump scare of all time like you said, it SERIOUSLY caught me off guard when I first watch TE3.
The Exorcist III is my favorite horror movie with THE best jump scare! Also, as far as jump scares go, I would put the blood testing from The Thing at #2. I actually jumped off my seat! And the end of Friday the 13th would be near the top as well.

I agree with you on black Christmas. Watched it for the first time a few years ago and when it got to that scene, the hair on my arms stood up lol. Totally freaked me out. Eyes can be scary

The scariest scene in horror for me would be the Hills have eyes remake when doug is fighting pluto in the house. That still scares me.

Holy shit i was just about to watch this. Been waiting on the new episode which is today. I remember the original one that was on the Bravo channel back in the 90s when I was a kid. 100 scariest movie moments. So seeing this new one is just pure nostalgia. The ending of Don’t Look Now sticks with me
I tell you one that always gets me Cody is the scene in dark skies when the dad looks at the video recordings and sees the aliens standing over them while they sleep. I mean just imagine seeing that.
Signs when you see the Alien in the kids birthday party video gave me chills more than any scene ever.

The canoe scene at the end of "Friday the 13th" gets me every time.
Sitting in a packed theater during that little scene from Exorcist 3, when nobody had any idea what was coming was the biggest scream I have ever witnessed. Everyone went NUTS! There was applause and cheering! We couldn't even hear the next 2 minutes of the movie because of all the chatter.
I'm the same age as you so I remember watching that bravo series. I loved how it had the film makers talk about their reactions to these films and the scary moments and how they reacted to it. It was so influential for me as well. It definitely turned me on to alot of great horror films and i feel like I'm still finally watching all of them.

Headed to rehab because I need help like yesterday but I wanted to drop in and say thanks your content saves lives Cody. I stop thinking about hurting myself for at least 20 minutes now multiply that by a percentage of your subscribers. Say, 15% of us are not doing so well. We are Fathers and Mothers and Sons and Daughters. We have reasons to live and eyes that look upward to us for leadership. My point is we will not hurt ourselves and the ones we love today because life is a gift and we will persist. Horns up and keep it fucking heavy Cody. I was 7 when The Exorcist III came out and I remember my mom renting it, sitting up watching it with her and my sister and while it was losing me as a kid with some of the criminal investigation elements; the bizzaro sequences kept grabbing my attention. Things like the old woman on the ceiling, the train station dream sequence of all the deceased and time running backwards, the "It's a WONDERFULL life" scene all had my interests. But when that goddamn hallway scene kicked on, I absolutely flipped. I mean screamed out, tears in my eyes and shaking, going " Wha-Wha? WHAAAA WAS THAT?!?!!?".
We kept rewinding that scene over and over and it never got less scary. It's STILL the benchmark to this day for what a jump scare should be
I’d love a holiday horror favorites list!
The 2 moments that stand out for me are:
1. Doppelganger scene from Lake Mungo
2. Coming down from the attic scene in Summer of 84
The monster reveal in Smile was pretty damn terrifying as well
I was also gonna say Summer of 84, but another scene: Mackey's warning to Davey. I showed it to my 16-year-old sons, and both of them said after that scene "well, I'm not sleeping tonight".
Even though I was expecting Mackey to be in the house - that attic scene still surprised me because I thought the kid would just open his eyes and Mackey would be standing over him. Very effective reveal.
Yeah that fucking lake Mungo scene man, at first when they did the jump I laughed and was like oh yall got me and I felt fine but later on it started to get under my skin and I didn't walk alone at night for months
Summer of 84 is a movie I wish more people talked about. That ending was surprisingly horrifying. Scared me in a way I did not except or by conventional standards.
@@Nephyness Agreed 100%. I think the ending also has extra oomph because, until the last 15-20 minutes, it isn't a horror movie. But once it becomes a horror movie, it jams the pedal down.

I recently picked up Shudder to check out the latest entries in the VHS series.
Im happy to say VHS 94 was a solid return to form after Viral. Had some truly creepy moments and some batshit insane moments as well. Now waiting to see 99.
I can't overstate how much I love Shudder! There are such great movies and series on this.

That scene in exorcist 3. Because of the jump scare we just had I wasn’t ready. I couldn’t yell or react. I just exhaled really fast and couldn’t breathe for a couple of seconds
The first Hell House LLC movie is probably the scariest modern found footage movie i've seen. Shudder created a nice little trilogy with this series.

I liked the first one a lot myself. The others...eh not so much. If you like footage style movies and can handle subtitles, I highly recommend Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.
Shudder is a great channel. It is inexpensive and has a lot of quality movies.

Exorcist 3 has the greatest jump scare ever made possible in film.
Not trying to shoot down Shudder since I'm a subscriber - it's AWESOME - but for those on a limited budget, TUBI has an EXCELLENT horror selection this month (I'm assuming it's for the Halloween month). Way better than Netflix, but not as good as Shudder obviously. I'm subscribing month to month - so thx for the code. Makes sense for me and wifey to go for the whole year. Appreciations brother!

One of my favorite scary movie moments was in 1408 when Cusack looks across the street to the other building and sees himself in the other room. Then gets jump scared by Benny the Jet.
I'm digging this show so far. It's interesting they also include series like Twin Peaks Return and Haunting of Hill House. I'm cool with it though. Intruder is baddass.
Funny enough I have watched all episodes up to this point (waiting on episode 8) and the whole time I was thinking, "I hope Cody knows about this!" And here we are haha.

The dark and the wicked freaked me out!! I watched it after my husband and kids went to sleep I was freaked out. I wish we got alittle more out of it. And yes bravos 100 scariest movie moments I watched it every year and I would take notes. “The gate” was a movie I saw when I was really young and I couldn’t remember what it was called I remember a hand coming through the center of the house and an eye in the kids hand and he stabs it…

there are some seriously huge gems on SHUDDER! I recently discovered “Shrew’s Nest”, “Anything for Jackson”, ‘Z’, and “Them” all are incredibly horror-thrillers with some shocking moments. 🥳🍿🥳🍿🥳
There's a film called "may the devil take you" on Shudder that has a few scenes that could of made this list. To quote Deadpool - "this guy's wearing the brown pants"
Yeah I’m loving shudders countdown. Bravos was great and I watched it multiple times. Luckily Shudder doesn’t have to censor itself. I know Shudder has included a few shows in this and I have to say that I’d be happy to see the jump scare from Haunting of Hill House. I am never really affected by those. But that one got me!

THE GATE (1987) is underrated as fuck!! Incredible use of forced perspective - and excellent Craig Reardon makeup effects.
The sequel to the descent ending really pissed me off. A person makes a sacrifice for nothing.
