Absolutely paint your grass. I airbrush all of mine with very dilute tamiya paint. It really helps to blend everything together and add some subtle shades that replicate what's in nature. Love watching the layout progress, the refinery is amazing!
Looking great! Love the little brown patches, keep doing it the rest of the layout, they do make a difference. Even if it’s JUST subtle enough, it plays tricks on our eyes and makes it feel less “plain”. Love the details too, they definitely elevate that whole area quite a bit. Looking forward to the next installment. Be well, Sean
I recently came across your channel when researching modelling a rail served fuel distribution depot for my UK layoout, this is absolutely brilliant and your eye for little details is great. Please let us know if you ever change your mind re selling your 3D design files for your tanker loading gantry as it looks awesome.. I model UK N gauge but you are proving a great ideas source, and your adding of little details to make a scene come to life. Thank you as a new subscriber from the UK.
I definitely want some people and especially vehicles. N scale is extremely limited on what to find, and the really good products are ridiculously expensive. But I do have a vehicle coming in a future video.
Details are looking great! Thanks for the tip on the static grass applicator. Looked like you used a laptop power supply. Is that correct? I have several of those and the exact woodland scenic applicator. I am anxious to give that a try. All of the Jersey road barriers around here are left the natural concrete color. I am located close to a concrete batch plant that makes those things. Thanks for another great video.
It was a power supply for a tv cable box haha. If the end fits, is 12v, and sufficient amps, then it will work. Just be certain the polarity is correct. I believe the Static King requires center negative. Jersey barriers are typically left concrete. It's just very hard to get a realistic concrete paint.
I ran a copper wire from the screw inside the static king and let it touch a steel mesh that sits within the grid plate. All you're doing is energizing the steel mesh which brings the static charge closer to the layout surface.
10:00 A broken guard rail is a realistic guard rail!! (at least in Québec!!!)

You definitely have an eye for composing a scene and the requisite skill to model it.
Well done and looking forward to seeing the bridge go in!
I've been following your progress with this refinery area and I have to say you've done a terrific job! Keep up the good work! All the best, Ian.

Recommended by a friend, I’m a new subscriber to your channel. Fellow N scaler. Nicely produced video with good content.
Looking very nice.
those details making the whole scene pop! great work!
Hey... When it comes to your methodology, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Awesome awesome work!
Always a fantastic video with a lot of train how-to. The one with the realistic water will be a tremendous help. Look forward to the super trees video
Your refinery looks great !
Really enjoying your video's. Some of your tips are terrific. Thanks!
Thanks. I'm glad you can use some of the tips
Love the details.
Great work. Looks awesome.
Looking really great. Any plans for people or vehicles? Bring this area to life as they say. Keep going.

@@nscaler454 it's an expensive hobby for sure. The project looks really good. 👍
Looks amazing

Wow looks great, what did you use for the base before the static grass was applied?
Thanks. I used dirt as a base.
Looking awesome! Where did you get the end-of-track bumpers? I've been looking for something like that.
I made them.
@@nscaler454 Oh wow! They are pretty slick. How can I get some?
@@stevenV57 Send me a message on Instagram if you can.
Interesting modification to the Static King. Where did you get the metal screen from?
I got it from a local metal shop. I had to cut it to the size of the Static King lid.
Usually Jersey Barriers are a whiter concrete?, at least in Midwest and Mid South.
Depends on the manufacturing and age or exposure to elements. I personally find concrete very difficult to find a good color for.
That painted grass looks great!! How did you reverse the power for the static grass?
I just reversed the polarity on the power supply. I cut the wires, and i switched them.
Could you tell me more about how you modified your Static King with the red wire and metal mesh?
I ran a copper wire from the screw inside the static king and let it touch a steel mesh that sits within the grid plate. All you're doing is energizing the steel mesh which brings the static charge closer to the layout surface.
Gotcha!!! As for the steel mesh at 2:09, is it precut/made to fit the grid, and also, where did you purchase that from?
@@TrainAssassin I got the mesh at a local metal shop. It came in bulk and I had to cut it to shape.
great 😃

hello nsacler454 its is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy and amazon jersey barriers nscaler454 ho scale
I am sure I could upscale the jersey barrier to HO scale. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there are about 50 different kinds in HO already.
