Wouldn't it be better to spay the batting on to the foam, then cut to size?

It was touch and go for a while there but she put up a hell of a fight and finally beat that cushion into submission.

I want to remove the batting from my 10y old couch cushion and flip the back of the cushion to the front to rejuvenate the look. Will it peel off easily or do you need a solvent? Can batting be reused?

Batting usually can be removed rather easily. It may leave a few fibers, but it can be removed by simply pullling it away from the foam.

On another video, I saw a great trick! Put the foam into a plastic bag and vacuum the air out to shrink It. Looks much easier!

What thickness of batting did you use. Also ,I'm adding 2 inch foam to my existing sofa cushions and was wondering if I should change the batting on the old cushions. I was thinking to adhere the new foam to the old foam and put new batting around both. What say you about this idea?

Yes, add new foam and then wrap in new polyester batting.

So if you have 4" foam would your fabric measure 3 1/2 inches on the sides (not including the seam allowance) in order to get this puffy look? I'm wondering what your side measurements on the foam and fabric were before you added the batting.

      NO Batting ---
I like to take a measurement of the thickness of the foam and add a 1/4 to 1/2 inch to that measurement for my boxing cut size (4" foam add 1/2" = 4 1/2" boxing). Then when I sew the 3/8" seam allowance on both sides of the boxing (to attach the plates- top and bottom plate) the boxing is slightly smaller than my foam thickness for a good tight fit.
      WITH Batting ---
If I use batting.. I press down (compressing it slightly) and take a measurement of the thickness of foam with the batting (for a 4" foam with typical batting that usually measures 4 1/2" to 4 3/4"). Then to that I add the 1/4" to 1/2". So... 4" foam with batting, lets say makes the thickness 4 3/4" + 1/2" = 5 1/4" cut size boxing strips (this is an example only, you should measure what you have).

Can you use any type of batting to stuff a pillow?

i think I read somewhere that if you are using the vinyl mesh material on the bottom plate that the silk film should be removed. Is this correct?

    • @SailriteDIY

It is true, the silk film can help prevent the foam from getting wet, but it also does not allow for a breathable cushion. So, separating (leaving a section uncovered) a section of the silk film on the bottom side of the cushion or along the side can help add breathability to the cushion foam that is wrapped in silk film. I do recommend a gap be left uncovered if using a mesh fabric on the bottom, yes.

James Brown (RIP), used to say he was the hardest working man in show business. He never met Debbie, from about 2:08 on, who has to slide around on her knees punching the sh*t out of a cushion. Hey narrator, I'm pretty sure Debbie's a human being and *could have used a hand*, dude.

Ther is a product called upholstery silk. It is soo smooth. Its a type of very soft plastic. You wrap your cushion in it ( on top of the dacron) and the cushion slides in like butter. I used it on a 6 ft couch, and could not believe how easy it was compared to trying it without the “silk”.

That foam does not look suitable for couch cushions. I dont think they would last.

3M 77 isn't that good. DAP contact cement is proven to be so much better
