I was involved in certain elements of the mclaren lineup since the 12c and up to the Artura. The 675LT was a car the team was very proud of. They felt like they got it so right.
In the flesh this actual 675Lt is still my dream car. As a frequent visitor to Podium and having sat in and experienced this car (starting up) I can confirm it is gorgeous. Its a great place to visit and the full Podium experience is fun too - including the new Paddock Club - great coffee, nice cars, lovely staff. I highly recommend a visit (and maybe membership). If I had the money I'd buy a 675LT. But I do own a 650s spider (my 2nd) so can't complain too much as this is definitely 95% of the full fat 675LT experience. Bit confused on the budget differences expressed tho - most 675LT spiders are 225-250k currently, but if this is valued at ~450k, which I believe having seen some other full carbon bodied examples for sale, a 650s spider at roughly 95-105k, and 12c spider maybe 10k cheaper are absolute bargains if you can still get decent specced examples. So I assume you are referring to the difference between a "standard" 12c Spider and a non-full-carbon bodied 675LT spider, not this actual car. Anyhow, well done, a very fair video and great to see you driving more McLarens - big shout out to John for letting you have a go. This is the whole point isn't it, actually driving these things and experiencing them, not as garage queens. Your other 650s video I think says it all. By no means perfect cars (what car is) but now that Thorney & V-Engineering are around, a more realistic aspiration to own and run. Keep up the good work.
That whipcrack on the full-bore upshift is just ludicrous. EDIT: Can't believe just how many negative response comment sections are giving towards the McLaren. While yes McLaren has its own problems (dealers servicing et al) I don't think the car itself deserves the bad rep...
Enjoyed that James, I think you are correct with the 650s. I found the 675lts would ground out regularly on b roads. The lights at night are one of the worst I have had on a car. But for one drive and being prepared to lose the front spoiler it is a fantastic drivers car.
I remember seeing this outside Joe Macari in 2017 with it's first owner. A truly fantastic car in the sunlight, and a great one-off in the lineup of carbon series builds.
Shmee loves his. My boss had one in Volcano Red, not sure if he still has it. Also Tavarish restored one. It certainly is one of the best that Maclaren has made.
Love your style, and I do so enjoy watching videos of cars I'd never buy even if I had the money. Such a beautiful McLaren, but my style is more the comfy sofa crossed with a GT...
The 675LT is to a 12C what a 997 GT3 is to a 996 Turbo. The power steering calibration is noticeably different, the suspension rates are very different (especially the rear is stiffened up), the ESP and much of the electronics is significantly upgraded, the engine delivery is quite a bit sharper. About the only thing which is the same is the design of the instrument cluster and the front and rear lights. It depends how sensitive one is to changes. You could say the 355 is similar to a 348 but we all know it was quite a change. Agreed, the 675LT interior is much nicer with contrasting stitching. I think the blue control knobs look seriously naff, but as long as the owner likes them, hey ho. 675LT and 997 or 991.2 GT3 Manual are the only drivers cars you 'seriously' need (no need for Paganis or Lambos etc).
Completely agree with that analogy. I owned a 12C 9 years ago which I loved and really wanted a 675LT Spider but that unfortunately never happened, however, I did have the opportunity to drive one and as you alluded to the cars drive nothing alike. The LT was so much angrier and gritty, the steering had much more heft, the transmission (worst part on 12C) was completely different, the titanium exhaust with its cracks on upshifts/downshifts, even the engine seemed less boosty than the 12C. I would argue that there was a bigger difference between 12C/675 than there was with a 430/Scuderia
Agreed the 997 and the LT are great complement to each other not sure if I should have gone gt3 on mine but the LT I have yet to see a car more fun to drive and lively plus I can bring quietly into my neighborhood at night if I want to
I really like the styling on the original 12C. Its a really pretty car in the flesh. Especially in that sunset orange or a yellow or similar colour. You can still buy one for less than 80k too. That's just mega value.
What a wonderful machine!. I remember back in 2016/17 McLaren Knightsbridge had a 650 Le Mans on the turn table. It was and still is on my lottery win list of cars. The 675LT Clubsport + for sale on PistonHeads is a fine machine also.
Totally agree with you about the interiors on LT’s they all seem very bland. But totally disagree about the differences between the 650 and 675. Totally different feel And experience. And now they have come down in price the 675 would be the one
I think that the exhaust whip cracks are some of the best implemented, they are gorgeous to hear but not ASBO like some cars (looking at you M4 and AMG)
675LT is my dream car but I never got to drive it properly apart from moving it around the dealership lot during my internship. Now that you mentioned it drives very close to a 650S, which is a car I have driver properly on the road, I can at least live at peace knowing I have experienced driving my dream car. Sort of, close but good enough given my close to none opportunities. Come to think of it, 675LT is just a special and 'tougher' version of the 650S and that's pretty much why I love the 675LT. A=I might just be a weird person like me finds normal McLarens too 'comfortable' (having plenty of experience as a passenger) and the track-focused ones to be 'just right' in comfortable level. I actually like being in the 600LT with the Senna seats, something I find surprising to hear when people say they dislike/hated those seat option.
Oooh, I'd like to hear James's take on that... But I'd say the 675lt is the more competent car, but the Scud is a more engaging drive based on my experience of both.
Scuderia is much slower, in every aspect. It feels alot older. Sounds better and no car has better gear shifts at red line. More race car feel. Mclaren feels more raw. At idle the entire car shakes. Everything feels faster and better, shifts, speed, braking. The whipcracks are very cool stuff. In the scud you are never afraid of killing yourself. LT is so much more violent. Love both cars, you need one of each and a porsche 997 gt3rs as well.
Yes the 675LT is far more expensive than both the 12C and 650S, matter of fact it’s more expensive than the 720S BUT it THE ONE McLaren possibly WILL gain in value considering it’s LTD production….. except from the P1 etc which is priced off the scale it’s a fantastic investment if one can afford it ? PLUS ….. pity the 675LT does NOT have the 600LT exhaust outlets, now that would have stollen the show ? Great content as always.
OMG! Yeah, top mounted exhausts would be epic! There's a conversion kit from Zacoe for the 12C and 650s, which may fit this. I wouldn't add it to an LT though... But to a 650s, maybe.
I think I’ve seen this car in person and knew a previous owner. He used to work in the same building as myself and we talked cars a bit, including this car when he brought it to the office
Jayemm , white or milk chocolate kinder bueno. Plus , when you drop the crumbs on the floor do u lick your thumb and stick the crumbs to your thumb or just lick the floor ? Sorry I just have to know this😩😩😩
Really enjoyed this vid Thanks. Currently thinking of leaving My heavily customised Aston V8V and stepping into a 12C which again I’d spend time ‘making my own’ but these vids keep me contemplating which iteration of the McL I would be best with. I much prefer the GT character (with wow factor) over a track 1st comfy car.
You know the engine on the 675LT is completely different to the 12C and 650? 60% different internals, based on 570 block not 650 block, different turbos, cosworth pistons and much more. Not just a tune! Suspension has more in common with the P1, I know as I have had to replace parts, steering rack also from a P1. The 675LT is a very different car to the 12C / 650s. Glad you liked it but you need to try it in esc dyn as it was torque limited in the settings you drove (i realise you could not do that) . The exhaust crack you need to be 50-75% load at 4k rpm plus in sport powertrain. I like the interior. The portrait screen is oriented so the passenger and driver are closed to each other and nearer the CoG. After 3 years of 12C ownership and now 3 years of 675LT ownership let Michael know the 675LT is worth every penny of the extra. 👍🏻
It looks like a good starter sports car for your early twenties driver with a couple of years driving experience, but maintenance costs would probably put them off, no matter how economical it is on fuel. Maybe even a young family as a fold away buggy would fit in the boot and it has ISOFIX on the spoiler. They’ve depreciated heavily, but in fairness it’s now affordable for most people. I’ve always liked McDeLorean…
Probably the car that restored McLaren's reputation as 'drivers' car, though I agree about the dull interior and the engine note is decidedly uninspiring. Excellent vid as usual (and for that reason, and that reason only, I'll forgive the shocking shirt!).
for driver feel and rarity surly you should have the nobel M600 in the same option choice line up? also a carbon fibre similar power british car. James you really do need to get a nobel M600 on your channel.
The Honda Jazz has a video functionality built into the rear view mirror. Why don't these modern Hypercars? It would surely be a benefit, and effectively at no additional cost
Ooh how the other half live 🤪 I have driven a handful of aupercars at a Rockingham experience day some years ago, muted and held back by second controls and fairly nervous instructors I know, but the Mac I found a bit soulless and synthetic. My favourite of the day was a Gallardo V10....
I'm concerned the 675lt being based on the 12c, and from that era, will have 12c problems which isn't worth extra performance to me. I don't need any more headaches.
Not sure how you can say too similar to a 650 when you’re (understandably) driving very carefully on 6 year old Trofeos in damp conditions. Press on a little and the differences between the cars very quickly become apparent. 12c and 650 are epic cars, and represent epic value, but 675 is on another level entirely. Quite a few really good independent specialists now, so no longer need to rely on the main dealers.
You can't review a track car on the road. You are missing so much more response/feedback and difference at the limit between 650s and 675lt. That is the real difference is and that is why your review of light weight cars is off.
"Well judged" is one of your frequently used phrases, most often when someone has modified their exhaust and it isn't quite obnoxious, anti social, machine gun bangs/decat nonsense going on 😀
I think the 12C is better looking, it's a more classic design to my eye. The spider is my favourite modern McLaren other than the GT, design wise. That one does look rather fabulous in that spec that though.
I like McLaren and obviously would like to own one but I dislike the way EVERY CAR on the planet is smothered in carbon fiber this and that nowadays…. Why? Can I get a McLaren with wood grain interior and beige seats 😂
That is a major problem with Mclaren. Same with Porsche, but worse - people see them and don't really see much difference. But if you're not ignorant of the brand (ignorant sounds like a bad word, but in reality it isn't because most people are ignorant of most things), it just looks like a Mclaren... You know. Another Mclaren. This is why Ferrari are so special. They don't make the same looking cars over and over again.
This is how peolpe with zero knowledge or interest think it is. Ferrari 360, CS, 430, Scuderia all look the same. 458, speciale, 488, pista, F8 all the same, aswell as F40 and F50…. Mclaren Senna, speedtail, 12c, elva, P!, 765 lt, 570 and F1, cant tell em apart! 🤔
@@Jonas-bt1qu the back of the 12c 650s 675lt is very similar the front resembles p1 too i can tell em apart but for people who arent fans they look similar also 570s 540 600lt
I get twitchy in my Silverado which is worth about $25k at this point. People seem to spend more time driving with their face buried in their phone than looking at the road.
I was involved in certain elements of the mclaren lineup since the 12c and up to the Artura. The 675LT was a car the team was very proud of. They felt like they got it so right.

Tan leather would have made it so much more special and worked so well with the blue.
Oooh, yeah, I could see that really working!
thank you.....Calvin Klein.
This! I will never understand the black interior craze in performance cars
@@tyler9703 I kinda understand it... It's more "race car". I quite like a black alcantara interior with accent stitching.

Almost certainly; every car I have heard of using that naming scheme does. Normally they say "001 of..." otherwise for the first car.
It has become popular of late not to put the exact number on, presumably to save a few quid (or disguise how many there really are)
I like McLaren and obviously would like to own one but I dislike the way EVERY CAR on the planet is smothered in carbon fiber this and that nowadays…. Why? Can I get a McLaren with wood grain interior and beige seats 😂
Brilliant!!!
I wonder what your friend went and purchased at the end … 12c or 675lt?
this needed the Peanutbutter Guts and more Carbonfiber on it
love that blue Carbonfiber
9:48 that car needs a service lol
Lined up for a few TH-camrs I see.
We actually filmed this well before others got close to it... But everyone's release schedule are different.
I can't imagine how stressed I'd be driving something worth £500k on the roads near my house
I get twitchy in my Silverado which is worth about $25k at this point. People seem to spend more time driving with their face buried in their phone than looking at the road.
Jayemm so gorgeous
