Quintin, this is Brent! I used to work as s temporary ramp agent at IAH in 2016! It was an amazing experience and we were known as the athletes of the airport! It is a tough, but also fun job! Its tougher than one things and we had to get physical and doctor checkups

another great trip report..riding on a MAD DOG...you had a choice of sitting up front and enjoy a quite trip...or get a seat in the back and enjoy true sounds.....itripreport...had the best seat..thanks guys..✈✈✈
today is 6-1-2022 and this flight was from 6-1-2020, so naturally i had to watch it again. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks so much for sharing!!
so glad to have YT recommend i watch this again. tonight's Q re-view is probably my favorite @qfsaviation video!! Q is going from IAH (my home airport) to ATL. and he is on a mad dog. and i got to watch and record the departure!! thanks so much for sharing this one qman!!!
MD- 80 has a loud departure because of the low bypass PW JT8d engines but the MD-90 is no louder than an Airbus A320 which it shares the same engines with the IAE2500....
So sad to see all those aircraft parked during this awful time !! Reasonable flight given the age we are living in !! Thanks as always for another great flight review !! Stay safe and above all stay well !! Love Atlanta as I worked at the Games there so many years ago !!
Awesome video Quintin! That must have been really awesome to be on a flight so historical. I always loved the -90 variant, those massive v2500s look so good in the back. My last flight on a maddog was in September of last year with American. They’re such smooth and stable aircraft and I already miss them a ton. God Bless the MadDog!
Big airport in terms of size, have flown there and out of there, but I believe the smaller BWI Airport has more passengers annually, at around 28 million, which is more than IAD and Reagan National. But IAD is the official hub for overseas flights from the Tri-Airports, BWI, Reagan and Dulles.
I worked for Delta for many years. Started in 2000. Had many many fond memories on the -88/90. Especially before they remove the aft galley. Some really great times. We used to call it "The noodle"
I think this is right, but could be wrong, do you remember the MD88 stretch version prior to the MD90 coming out? That MD90 is still relatively young at 21 years old, since they changed to use them for shorter haul flights, they have been great to have and still one of the coolest engines with thrust reverser. Nice and loud. Reminds me of the 737-1-2 with the engine sounds. Why was Delta and American retiring the MD’s?
First Class got you 6 or 7 more inches of legroom, which many of us would appreciate. You also got the goodies bag with a buck's worth (wholesale) of stuff. But for such a short flight I wonder if the extra cost was worth it. I'd probably fly Economy and use the savings for a good restaurant at my destination.
I wish domestic airlines should stop using the word "first class" lightly. For the plane to have real "first class" it needs at least 3 cabins "first class" "business class" and "economy" sometime big plane have 4 cabins.
@@sotheathiret541 I agree. "First Class" implies luxury, and US domestic flights rarely offer that. Of course, many domestic trips are not long enough to appreciate or even need luxury, so there might not be enough customers to make it profitable for the airlines to configure their planes for it. "Business Class" maybe.
Domestic airlines used to use wide body plane. Most likely have real "first class" cabins. I don't recalled what year exactly they stop using big plane to fly domestic. I think it is not profitable for domestic airlines to use widebody plane for domestic flight. I found this article on Wall Street Journal By Scott McCartney on April 15, 2015. U.S. airlines have been on a diet, shedding fat, double-aisle jets on many routes in favor of skinnier single-aisle planes. There’s hardly a widebody in domestic skies anymore.
MD-90s were not known for loud departures (at 6:45), that was the MD-80s (and everything else using JT8D engines). MD-90s are significantly quieter than MD-80s.
For years the -80s and the -90 have been the mainstays for flights between Florida and the Delta hub at ATL. MCO or TPA you might avoid them (and probably use another airline) but PBI has been my nearest airport for some years and I’ve flown a lot of them. Generally just fine, first class or coach. I’ll miss them.
The MD90 is the one version of the DC-9 family I guess I will never get to fly (hopefully will fly the 717 next year). I was supposed to fly them down to Florida in September but because of COVID-19 the trip was cancelled and of course the MD90 prematurely retired.
Luckily I have been able to fly this, the only downfall is back few rows windows are blocked by the engines, but at least you get the beautiful engine sounds. I was slightly hoping that they would retire to MZJ to be among their 747s
Nice memories of the Mad Dog 90, what a sad sight to see these old school planes gone, I know the video just uploaded but still, I just wanna point out that these Mad Dogs will be missed greatly by avgeeks worldwide. Thanks for sharing, I predict this will be another splendid trip report. Stay safe Quentin. Greetings from Malaysia mate.
the MD90 had a special feature............Due to the heavier engines, the engine pylons feature flaps that deflect 30° downward to assist in pitching down for stall recovery. The system activates automatically when the control column is pushed fully forward.[13]
Have you ever tried out Cafe Intermezzo? It has great flightline sight seeing if you sit in the back. The food is good too. If you can't get into the lounge, Cafe Intermezzo at ATL is awesome.
The emergency exit door on the CRJ, could be because they did training :-) Normally in the smaller planes they completely latch off, so for training they often use real aircrafts. It can also be because of a malfunction, most planes lock the emergency doors when you advance the throttles/thrust levers.
The MD-90 has International Aero Engines V2500’s, the 80’s do not, they have Pratt and Whitney Engines. The 2500’s also power the Airbus 319, 320 and 321 series. The 2500’s are much quieter.
Quintin, what was the impetus for you becoming an aviation geek ? Please know I use the term with respect. Also, did they let you keep the safety card as a souvenir ?
If you would still like to fly in an MD aircraft, Dana Air (Nigeria-based) still operate MD-82 and MD-83 based aircraft. You can try them out when the global situation gets better. What do you think😁?
LOL......American Airlines door was open because of virus. Good bye to MD-80s & 90s..... I was American Airlines passenger for MD-80s for few years before I gave up. Crying for MD forever!!!!!
After your jaunt to Alaska on AS and PenAir,this journey from EWR-IAH,IAH-ATL is merely 'down the street' for you! Already are having a long day, flipping between ET and CT. The only avgeek footage of the last-ever MD-90 flight from IAH was filmed early the next morning on Skylight Productions' channel,as far as I know. My only experience with a -90 was TUS-ATL in Dec' 14,have footage yet to be uploaded. Appropriate timing for a shot of Selma AL,since there has been extensive news coverage of Rep. John Lewis' death and his involvement with the civil rights movement
good news is I got to watch this departure from the ground. bad news is I was on the opposite side of the aircraft. oh well. great job on this video qman. I'm going to watch it again. thanks for sharing and stay safe my friend.
Last I ride on this from Buffalo, NY to Atlanta, GA in 2019 and I feel last time of the airplane MD-90. And in 2003 to 2005 I ride that and last time of Alaska Airlinrs way Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle, WA and San Diego, CA then back home as that airplane good airplane because Alaska Airlines want new Boeing 737-800 replace by MD-80/90 as Delta Airlines this but this for Replace by Airbus A321-200.

RIP the Delta MD-80/90's. I had the pleasure of flying both types, at least the 717 lives on (I'll fly one in two weeks).
Love the 717 (got to fly a few AirTran 717s when they were almost new).
