    I'm from Australia, and they do roofs really weird in America. We just use galvanised valleys.

      Good to know. Here roofing is a mafia business

      Nope, same here in the USA; we use galvanized sheet metal in the valleys also!

    Yeah so nice video, thanks for uploading, but based on watching a lot of other roof repair videos this is not the best solution. There are no zinc/lead gutters installed in the roof valleys, where multiple parts of the roof meet. (google some images of 'roof tile valley', it'll make things more clear). Do you already see the problem?
    The parts of the roof adjacent to the piece that was getting fixed, are just dumping their water contents under the new roof. The overlapping plastic sheets will carry the water towards the edge of the roof, so at first this won't be a problem. But give it a few years and you'll get lots of crap right on top of the plastic sheets: bird droppings, leaves, all kinds of organic matter really. These will accumulate, and create blockades for water, so you'll get pools of water under the tiles. Now if you have a pool of water right on top of two overlapping plastic sheets, this creates an opportunity for water to creep through the overlap and onto the wood underneath.
    If you fix this now, you won't have to replace the new wood. If you fix this in a few years when it leaks, it'll be a bit more expensive because of that. But you will have delayed the cost, maybe you don't live there anymore, who knows. So I'd say just live with it and keep a close eye. (disclaimer, again, I'm not a roofing professional, just someone who likes to do research).

    Looking like the tiles just for pretty, what prevent leaking are the papers under neath.

    • @DirtyLifeLove
      @DirtyLifeLove 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. And they are unnecessary extra weight, which leads to more roof repair.

    In America it looks like tiles are there for show . Because all they seem to be bothered about is roofing paper and ice shield. If the pitch of the is right and the overlap on the tiles is right you shouldn't need all that crap underneath. Half of the problem is fixing tiles directly to the paper. definitely a no no in uk and most of Europe a batten system is used which is the proper way

    • @HowToDoitright
      @HowToDoitright  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ya it’s a business mindset in US and roofing system is bad here.

    Valley metal is indispensable, with out it it will continue to happen.
    But sometimes we don't tell the costumers and most time costumers don't want to pay. Consider the roof is the most important part of a house.

  • @pencilme1n
    @pencilme1n ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't board the roof at all. Use a breathable felt fastened to the trusses with battens fixed on top. One batten for each row of tiles. This allows the roof space to breath. The tiles deal with the rain but any leaks or condensation will be carried away by the felt towards the guttering. You will need valley channels either way

    One of the worst roof repairs I’ve seen .. it’s suppose to go under a minimum of 18” he gave it 3”

    • @HowToDoitright
      @HowToDoitright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see what you are saying but in reality it was almost impossible to do so for a repair. If it’s a new roof replacement then it’s much easier but getting 18” is tough on an existing roof. However he did not just go 3”. It was more.

    Great video except that it wold have been far more helpful if you had referred to each element buy is actual name (ie: "paper" - technically, its not paper!? so more helpful to inform us of the actual material and the underlay part, in my view). Cement liquid, Paste or liquid rubber? Not clear. Then you did say he would be using foam and board but no cement or nails ... which he has used.. But all in all, thank you so much for taking the time to share.

    • @Oneklickmedia

      It’s not usually the roof material that’s the issue. I see most leak come from improper flashing, neglecting care ( no gutter maintenance) or crack tiles they never fix. Shingle same way but shingles is cheaper so tons of owner fix it themselves versus tiles, it’s intimidating from what I hear from home owners
