I bought the SNXS79K about 9 months ago. I have always preferred cases in a larger diameter, typically the 40-42mm range. The SNXS79K has become the favorite of my collection and allowed me to embrace a smaller case size which has carried over to other watches. I appreciate your assessment of the SNXS79K, especially the versatility. I have used both NATO straps for a casual look and a more robust oyster style replacement bracelet for a dressier look. Seiko to me have always been a great watch. I remember over 30 years ago an old jeweler says to me that these watches were made just as good as expensive brands with the grand seiko up at the top. But a true working man's time piece, thank you Seiko.
Swis watches overrated. Japanese watches underrated. A rolex fan will yearn to pay 10x for a limited edition or discontinued or vintage but a seiko buyer will even wait for discount even on a 300 dollar seiko that is mostly as good as a 8-10k swiss watch
Nice to see you highlight a watch that can be afforded by almost anyone rather than these pieces costing thousands and thousands which are out of reach for so many.

My Seiko 5 was the first watch that really made me fall in love with mechanical watches. Absolutely love the day/date with the weekends that have the fun blue/red color for saturday/sunday.
I wish my dad was still alive. I'd buy it for him - he totally loved that classic Seiko style. He'd toss that bracelet and put it in one of the Speidel Twist-o-flex bracelets from his stash in his dresser. It looks amazing on that black leather strap.
My son wore this watch everyday for 4 years and he adhered to the notion that 30 m water resistance meant he could swim in the pool or go to the beach with it. Its $99 price tag also helped to take that risk. Never had a problem.
I have a lighter silver version of this one. My mom bought it for me nearly 20 years ago when i first got interested in horology. It’s been through medical school interviews, residency interviews, private practice tours and interviews, and my wedding day. It’s the most versatile watch I had. Now that I’ve added Rolex, Tudor, , Grand Seiko, and Omega to my collection, it should be known that this watch has and will forever carry the most sentimental value of all my collection. Just had it serviced last year- keeps good time. Keep up the great work, Jenni!
This watch's silver-dialed sibling, the SNXS73, was my very first mechanical watch. I bought it with my own money when I was just starting high school. I wore it daily and never took it off, not even when my family and I went on vacation so it saw pools, the ocean, everything. Never once did it give me an issue. I wore it religiously for about 8 years before I had enough money to move to better, more expensive pieces. Mine is long gone now but I miss it still.
Mine was a Smith Asral. Just had it serviced and won't part with it. Don't know why expanding bracelets are out of style.will have to look and see what is available.
I had a watch with that bracelet pin removal design. I loved it. It was so easy to just push the pins out with a flat head screw driver and I liked the larger pins because they were less likely to get lost and they were easy to spot if they were about to jump ship, not that they ever did. I think it was on an old relic watch.
Just adjusted the bracelet on mine. Not so difficult if you twist the right sized flat screwdriver, opening the "jaws" a little so you can then slide out the retainer. I then used a pair of rounded end pincers with a soft cloth in place to ensure the fitting sits back in its original shape. No scratching of the metal at all and no risk to your fingers either!
The 7S26 was the movement in the discontinued SKX Diver models, it’s a tractor of a movement and reliable. I think you can’t beat this watch for the price.👍🤘😎
I've worn my white face model of this SNX for about 4 years now. I wear it at work and school and in my normal life all day everyday. Keeps time like a champ and better than my SRP that I wore for about 4 months. Not 10 bar resistant like the SRP but for $100 I get plenty of compliments on it and is truly a monster. I do not have any higher end watches to compare it too but I highly recommend this watch to anyone.
This watch is still on the market, i bought one in 1987 😂😂 still have it. Timeless and does the job right, looks beautiful ! Great video thanks for sharing ❤️❤️ greetings from the Netherlands
Jenni thank you for looking at this lovely watch. I own three Seiko 5 watches, and must admit the bracelets are meh but on a nice NATO they are superbly comfortable.
I have this watch and actually went ahead and bought from Alibaba the oyster bracelet made for it which flushes seamlessly into the case. Head turner for sure!
I have the silver version (SNXS73) which is still available. It is one of the cheapest yet most expensive looking watches in my collection; particularly the dial is just flawless. Its size is just classy on my 7 inch / 175 mm wrist. The watch is only considered authentic on a Chinese Rolamy Oyster bracelet though which beefs up its look considerably. I reserve mine for dressy occasions (where also its water resistance is no concern) though it fits virtually any attire. Definitely a must-have. If you want to spend a little more, consider a Traska Commuter.
I have both the 79 and the 73 (silver dial), which were two of my first automatic watches. Love the dial. Agree with you that it would be better if the lugs curved down and the case were less of a UFO from the profile. Also wish the case were a bit less polished. Some brushing would be nice. The secret to removing the difficult links is to use a regular flat screwdriver with a thin head (rather than a spring bar tool or watch screwdriver), and hold it perpendicular to the link. It catches the little nub if you press down and forward. I don't wear mine as often as I used to, but both are on straps.
I brought mine into a Los Angeles watch store and one of the salespersons said that his coworker had worked for Rolex for 60 years and was asked by the younger staff what was the best watch made. The old Rolex guy says that the "for the money, the best watch made is the Seiko 5."
i mean that's common sense. They both only show the time +- one or two other functions, one costs under 300 bucks, the other starts at I think 3k and goes to i dunno 20k? To assume that a Rolex is anything more than a status symbol is kinda wack. They might make nice precise stuff, but for that money you can have way more complex things which have even higher material costs.
@@osiris654 - a whole car, or the top of the line street/race motorcycles which have so much electronic in them you have no idea what's up anymore. - You could convert a room in your house/apartment to what ever you want if we consider the more expensive Rolex' - a pretty decent "cinema" setup for your home stuff like that.
I have one, and love it! I put it on a leather strap when I got it (2018), the bracelet is a joke, but a colormatched gray leather makes it so nice. I dont mind the movement, sure its not high end, but it works and mine has never missed a beat and keeps time (about 10s a day). For me its the Rolex I cant afford 😀.
Awesome video for those that can not afford expensive watches. I appreciate that on TH-cam are still videos for everyone! Seiko is perfect watch, quality on point!
i love that you reviewed this watch! such an overlooked beautiful watch. i have the SNXS73J and i think it’s an absolute gem. my favorite classic vintage watch is the King Seiko 45, but don’t really want to deal with all the issues of that movement especially as its 50 years old, but this is strikingly similar to that one. obviously different in many ways, but for a budget Seiko with similar dimensions and design, it was an easy decision. love your videos. by the way, mine runs around -5 secs/day.
I have a brown dial one, it looks really nice. I'm never getting rid of it despite having recently purchased an expensive watch. These dressy seiko 5 are respected because they are well executed. They look amazing in leather straps
Really cool to see you give such an affordable watch the macro treatment, super impressive to see this up close! I like the way the bracelet looks, but I don't think the finishing really matches the case well. It would be comfortable for me, except it tugs on my arm hairs non-stop... Also can confirm, bracelet sizing was a nightmare.
I bought a Seiko SNE107P2 in 2013 and it has never stopped once. The best time piece I have ever bought. I never take it off. I just change the bands that wear out.
This watch is for everybody. It’s a watch I love to wear when I don’t want to wear something expensive but still look elegant. It is also a versatile sport and dress watch. As for the bracelet, swapped it out for a beautiful 19mm beads of rice bracelet and it looks and feels luxurious now
I was lucky to buy its predecessor used about a year ago for an equivalent of USD 40 and it's awesome. It's one or two millimeters thinner as it has a solid case back, plus it has an older caliber, which runs incredibly precisely (within +2 s/d). Much more consistent than two newer 7S26 watches I have. And the old movement also has a cool feature that the day of the week is set by pressing the crown like a pusher... I polished the case and had the crystal swapped and now have a super cool dress watch. BTW I tried swapping the bracelet for a cheap oyster replica, but I ended up going back to the original, which is more comfortable and, despite being flimsy, much more pleasant to the touch.
@@syafiqulaiman6950 I don't know the exact reference as Seiko marks only a code originating from the caliber designation on the watch itself, so it may be shared (and in this case is) by multiple watch models. So don't be surprised if multiple design variants come up from your search. This is code 7009-3040.
@@Daniel-dj7fh I bought it used on a local general advertising server similar to craigslist. The case was quite beat up (but everything was polishable) and the crystal was badly scratched, hence the price.
What a wonderful review! Great production, and of course, presentation. I have this exact watch, with a classic Speidel Twist-o-Flex band. Great combo!
Mine arrived this morning. 185.00 CDN at Amazon. It's a true beauty. Very easy to set. Took ten minutes to resize the bracelet. No big pain at all. Sharp end of a pair of scissors popped the links out no problem. I was concerned about the size of the case back, but I don't notice any difference really from my other non-automatics. Sits nicely on my wrist. The common failure of this watch has been mentioned is the bracelet, but I find the brushed bracelet/polished case a nice contrast. Very happy. Thank you Jenni. I originally thought about a fake Oyster, but after watching your reviews of the Seiko 5, I opted for this. Very glad I did. Keep up the great work. Your reviews are candid, factual and fun. Have a Merry Christmas everyone from us here in Nova Scotia, Canada.
How's it holding up? I want a daily dive watch but I found one of these with a yellow face and fell in love. I would just get the dive watch and buy this later but ik these are no longer made and the prices will start to rise. On the other hand I've never had a dive watch and want one badly but if I buy this I can't justify buying another watch for a long time......oh lord lol the pain of being a watch guy
@@trevorgray4852 This is not a dive watch, but I don't swim so no issues there for me. I paid I think 185.00 CND. I've heard they have gone up but haven't looked lately. Look at it as an investment. Works perfectly and is a beautiful timepiece.
A great review Jenni. I purchased this watch two and a half years ago, that dial is fantastic and is the best feature of the watch. I swapped out the bracelet for a leather band almost immediately. Although it's a smaller watch as you point out it certainly looks like a flying saucer on the wrist. Accuracy varies but is within ~10 seconds per day. The price now on Amazon is over double what I paid for mine as the popularity of this piece has grown significantly. Usually the opposite happens to me, prices usually plummet within days if items I purchase. Overall the watch is a great all rounder, the lack of hand winding is no issue as long as you shake it for 20 seconds or so from stopped it keeps it keeps ticking fine for a day on the wrist, another 20 seconds shake will easily keep it running through the night. The lack of hacking does not bother me that much as I set mine up to a minute fast any way. It also looks good on my 7" wrist (not huge) as much as it works well for members of the itty bitty wrist committee :-) Keep up the great work Jenni.
I bought this watch less than a few months ago now and also bought a oyster bracelet for it and a black rubber strap both with quick release push down pins love to switch it up for whatever the occasion, would recommend for you’re first entry automatic watch👍
Great review of a simple but elegant watch! If I had room in my case right now I'd get one! By the way, the 7S26 is one of my favorite Seiko movements. I love it in my SKXs. It's so simple to simply give it a few shakes if my watch has been stored and it springs to life and keeps decent time too!
I've owned a few Seiko over the twenty years time span. I found them very accurate, they are comfortable to wear, and they are always very inexpensive compare to other more exclusive brands.
Great review! I love the sunburst finish on the dial and the indicators having so much depth. Its nice to see something so affordable have a features that are usually done so well on much higher end watches, which are out of the reach of most average income people.
Believe me, I have this watch running at my wrist last 10years... never it's stop.... so economic yet proven its sound timing, simple elegance looking and serves me in many ways possible.... thank you seiko5... Thanks for the review miss Jenny elle
I bought this watch 20 years ago with a silver dial and bracelet and it looks great, runs great, and feels great on my wrist. You seem quite critical on some aspects of the watch. However, being a commoner as it were, I find it most suitable to be on my wrist. Cheers!
Thank you for the very informative and in depth review of this watch. I just placed my order right after seeing your clip for the first time a few hours ago. Looking fw to wearing it!
Are you sure you owned a Rolex before ? Or understand what watch making is ? When I mean a Rolex I mean one after 2005 to be sure you understand at least the quality and how it was made. Believe me you cannot even think about comparing it to a Seiko watch after you own one😂 Rolex as improved drastically these last years and now they are so durable better than Patek or AP at this. Totally an other world but I guess it's normal when it's under a video saying "a 100$ Rolex killer" what did I expected ahaha
@@skeyke Maybe it's too heavy for your wrist or don't understand anything about quality materials and quality finish or even the whole movement inside, I can't do anything for you mate. 😂 Some people prefer to eat shit than real food so...
@@Shock_Treatment And ? 😂 it takes a year to make it and every piece is closely inspected by many many people and by hand of course, I have relatives that have worked there and it is just an other world not comparable to the factories you have in mind. But Rolex is very secretive and the poor like to fantasy about it as not qualitative as it is. I guess it makes them better sleep at night. But this channel doesn't know anything about high end watches and complex horlogerie, I work for Panerai, I don't care what people listening to a youtuber speaking non sense think in the end. 😂 just makes me laugh. Of course they make huge benefits what did you expect ? In the end, real high quality understanding is not for everyone and it's not a bad thing after all.
Absolute best watch I've ever owned. I like everything about it and would buy another one in a heartbeat. I've been wearing it almost daily since 2011 and its never needed servicing. I hope they always keep making this one.
This watch is from 2013. It has not been made for years. However, new old stock, NOS, is still available. I bought mine 4 months ago, here in the US. 150 dollars. Love it. Ive worn it non stop since, and it has not stopped running, and loses about 1 minute every 6 days. Very good.
Back again. Jennie, I bought this watch because of you. It has worked flawlessly since day one. I only take it off to shower. I'm actually involved in construction, plumbing and electrical work, so pretty rough ground. No scratches on the glass. It's still like brand new actually. Best watch I've ever had. Thank you. It loses about two minutes a week. That's fine. I'm old ; ):. I won't miss them.
@@sevensages5279 Correct. Mine is the black dial as well. The only thing I don't like about this watch ... well, there is nothing I don't like. It feels, looks and works perfectly.
I have a OP that’s a few years old, and this Seiko is really really good compared to the price. The movement does it’s job and doesn’t make a sound almost. And I don’t think the bracelet is annoying at all. The OP used to be my everyday watch, but since I got the Seiko, I’ve used it more than my OP. There is a big different between them, but i gotta say, I would recommend the Seiko to anyone because it’s so good for around 200$.
I've got a Seiko 5 from 1994. It was stuck when I found it in 2019.I serviced it once still it works good no issues till now. That's why Seiko had always been my favourite.
The action of winding a 7s26 is called the seiko shuffle. I now know what Bob Dylan was singing about in Mr tambourine man, jingly jangly watch bracelets
The case thickness and lugs of this model is the reason I rather went with the SNK355, and I love it. The 5s on the dial are done really subtly. Just wish it was a tiny bit bigger, but still works. It's even better on an aftermarket Jubilee. When you look up-close at some of these dials in the affordable 5 range you can hardly believe the detail.
I just received this watch last week and switched out the bracelet to a grey suede which accent the grey dial. It really is a very beautiful watch. Like you said, it is versatile to wear for any situation. I am a big fan of the Seiko 5 which have no problem with the 7S26 movement at all. Love the dial under the sun, gorgeous!
Great review ! Great watch ! I'd love to see more reviews like this . I almost bought one the other day but went with a Seiko sport green dial . That watch rules !
I have got the exact watch it was my grandads he bought it brand new for £90 in the 70s and he’s used it for when he worked in the nhs and even now it works perfectly fine it’s crazy I love it.
This watch reminds me of my Hamilton Khaki king II, I would put a mesh bracelet on this watch, I have bought nice ones from Amazon for less than $20. However, she said the lug width is 19mm, you can get away with a leather strap, or a NATO that was 20mm, but with a metal band, you would have to make sure it was 19mm.
For other readers: The standard bracelet for this watch is considered to be the cheap Rolamy Oyster bracelet from Aliexpress. I own one myself. There's also tons of videos on it.
If this had a 4R36 movement, sapphire crystal and a better bracelet all for another $100 or so it would be an incredible watch but then it again it might not have the same ‘charm’. I kind of like the cheap, jingly bracelets and find them surprising comfortable. PS the dial on this one is astonishing for the price.
I own the MIJ version and love it, cost me about 90 € some years ago. I agree with your review - it's a basic but beautiful and solid watch. I also like the bracelet.
This is a great video that outlines what amazing value for money Seiko delivers. I have built a few mods myself and have taken them to a watch maker to regulate them and the NH36s have achieved a +/- 6 seconds accuracy. This is well within Seiko’s own specifications.
Can you tell me exactly why is lack of hacking and hand winding bad thing or downside of one (any may I say) automatic watch? I wear only one watch (SKX007 precisely) and never got a desire to hand wind or hack second hand, neederless to say 36 hours or more power reserve is unnecessary.
@@stevanpavic Agree on the SKX, have and wear one, too. But I do miss hacking. I like to set my watch to the precise time every morning (unless I wear my Spring Drive, then once a month is enough). Hacking is just more convenient then the pseudo hacking your have to do with the SKX. My comment was just highlighting the point that a lot of very expensive “high end” watches have no hacking either.
A very vice watch which keeps very good time and looks good too. For the price it’s excellent. Two potential snags: 1. No hand winder so got to keep moving or it will meet a reset. 2. No hacking in the normal way using a crown click. Instead the seconds hand can be stopped by turning the crown. The instructions manual did not match this procedure on the one I bought. It remains a favourite.
I’ve got an older version of this watch, the Seiko 7006-8007. It’s a bit beat up, has only a 17 jewel movement, but runs really well. It’s also one of the only things I have from my dad, so it’s priceless to me.
🤔 I have a Seiko 5 and the movement is more precise than the ETA movements or the Sellita movements in my Swiss watches that are five to 20 times more expensive...

Finally someone showed me this watch with different straps,
Definitely getting this one👍🏼
Jenni, thanks for looking at affordable watches too.
Jenni thank you for looking at this lovely watch. I own three Seiko 5 watches, and must admit the bracelets are meh but on a nice NATO they are superbly comfortable.
I would buy if it had a wait list.
What do you mean whats the diffrence?

Very good!
@@magnuscarlsenbutdumb seems a jab at rolex’s perpetual wait list.
Who needs a wait list when online purchases make you wait long enough already.
I have this watch and actually went ahead and bought from Alibaba the oyster bracelet made for it which flushes seamlessly into the case. Head turner for sure!
Seiko and Citizen watches are underrated. They are classic in design like the Rolex and timeless. I own models from both brands.
Both seem to not exist
I could listen to you talk about anything,,,, you have such a nice demeanor.
I would.👍🏾
I have both the 79 and the 73 (silver dial), which were two of my first automatic watches.
Maybe next time buy the ladies version it's smaller
My version is 52 years old. It's a heritage of my great grandfather. I love it.

I have a Seiko 5 with 7S26-3040 movement bought for USD30 in 2000 and still running strong despite scratches here and there.
i love that you reviewed this watch! such an overlooked beautiful watch. i have the SNXS73J and i think it’s an absolute gem. my favorite classic vintage watch is the King Seiko 45, but don’t really want to deal with all the issues of that movement especially as its 50 years old, but this is strikingly similar to that one. obviously different in many ways, but for a budget Seiko with similar dimensions and design, it was an easy decision. love your videos. by the way, mine runs around -5 secs/day.

What do you think of snk361? Looking for a bracelet. The dial and lume looks better on the snx but the UFO shape made me choose the snk

This watch is for everybody. It’s a watch I love to wear when I don’t want to wear something expensive but still look elegant. It is also a versatile sport and dress watch. As for the bracelet, swapped it out for a beautiful 19mm beads of rice bracelet and it looks and feels luxurious now
Hey man I trying to find the best place to buy one
I was lucky to buy its predecessor used about a year ago for an equivalent of USD 40 and it's awesome. It's one or two millimeters thinner as it has a solid case back, plus it has an older caliber, which runs incredibly precisely (within +2 s/d). Much more consistent than two newer 7S26 watches I have. And the old movement also has a cool feature that the day of the week is set by pressing the crown like a pusher... I polished the case and had the crystal swapped and now have a super cool dress watch. BTW I tried swapping the bracelet for a cheap oyster replica, but I ended up going back to the original, which is more comfortable and, despite being flimsy, much more pleasant to the touch.
mind to share its model number?
@@syafiqulaiman6950 I don't know the exact reference as Seiko marks only a code originating from the caliber designation on the watch itself, so it may be shared (and in this case is) by multiple watch models. So don't be surprised if multiple design variants come up from your search. This is code 7009-3040.
where do you find prices like this???
@@Daniel-dj7fh I bought it used on a local general advertising server similar to craigslist. The case was quite beat up (but everything was polishable) and the crystal was badly scratched, hence the price.

Could you please give us the link to that mentioned bracelet, please? thank you in advance my friend :)

Amazon sold them for £50-£60 a few years ago but now they've doubled in price 🙄
