My SNXS79 never ceases to amaze me, and always makes me sigh in jaw-dropping appreciation of its beauty. The "high case back" which many complain about, is actually the classic 70s style bubble case. You can't compare its heft and build to a dive watch. Compare it instead to other daily, casual, sporty pieces within its price range. It will certainly knock them all out, and even punch way above its class. IMHO, it easily beats many luxury watches in beauty, versatility, and X-factor. As such, it will never leave my small collection. 🙂
I got my Seiko 5 some 20 years ago, for about 25 dollars. Still wearing it occasionally. Has its fair share of wear and tear but still working diligently.
Big fan , just ordered one for my budget conscious Dad who wouldn’t wear something that he knew was too expensive. Thanks again Peter for the great video as usual. Beauty deal !
Hi Peter and best wishes to you. I bought this watch, a J. version, for around €127 all taxes included, from Creationwatches. I tested it with a phone application at +2s/day. I am rather a fan of the large diameters from Seiko (Tuna, MM200/300, etc.) but I wanted to try again a contained diameter that is very fashionable. A French modder says that you can install an NH-36 (or 4r36) there but the 7s26 of the very famous SKX has a good old-fashioned charm. Thank you for this video which reassures me in my choice, because I had not seen it before buying it. 🤩👍All that remains is to find him a “real” bracelet. 😅😁
I have a SNXS79 and it’s so beautiful. If you’re just looking for an affordable automatic then it’s all the watch you’ll ever need. If you don’t like how high it sits on the wrist then the SNX111 is a great alternative. I have one of those too and it doesn’t have that stunning dial but it has a more comfortable case. Also, the blue dial SNXS77 is amazing in person.
Great review and photography. I find myself going back to supposedly entry-level Seikos, even though I can afford higher end watches. They're just so good looking and so much value.
Value is perceived. Plus you really want to rock a $11k retail Rolex GMT that has a street value of over $20k and risk your life from being robbed. Crazy world we live in today.

Hi peter couldnt agree more, this is the watch that introduced me to this hobby and i still love it , nobody produces a dial like seiko for the money . Peter, the quality of your filming and narrative is such that you make a $150 Seiko look like a watch someone in the market for a white gold Lange und Söhne Saxonia might consider instead. And be quite happy with. Incredible.
I really love this watch. I bought the blue version (SNXS77) a couple of years ago but really should have gone for the gray dial. It's come up in price but if you really really love the dial then it's absolutely worth it! Peter, your photography shows the real beauty this watch is, congratulations!!
You know you love a watch you already own when you still watch reviews of it. And I knew you’d do it justice. Such a great watch for the price. If you put it on a nice leather strap it’s such a comfortable watch to wear and looks way above its price tag. I also bought the white/silver dial snxs73
I bought a brand new Seiko 5 with a black dial in 1993 for $45. The dial has a 24H military time but it's unusually small for a man's watch, about 34mm only. It's perfect for my small wrist and I still wear it daily and it still looks new.
Beautiful piece. The two 5s (vintage birth month and a golden „summer seiko“ SNXL72K) in my collection are among my favourite watches, although long surpassed value wise by others.
Good review Peter, now I'm thinking of getting one. I have quite a few Seiko watches in my collection (SARB017, SARB035, SRPC35) but when I saw the SNKL23 which looks very similar to the SARB033, I couldn't resist buying it. I changed the bracelet similar to the one which you reviewed and now it's a very special piece in my collection. Just what I learned from your review, it's not the price but the design and the presence of the watch that makes it appealing to us. 😁
Great video, Peter! You talked me into getting one, it was +10 s/d out of the box but like yourself, I threw it on the timegrapher and got it to under a sec/day. I also put it on a suede strap although I have warmed up to the stock bracelet recently which is utterly comfortable. The dial is gorgeous ( I got the silver dial) and can´t keep my eyes off it, it is a keeper and a permanent addition to my collection.
Awesome review, keep it up! Was fortunate enough to get a hold of this timepiece 3 months ago for around $75. Beautiful dial with that sunburst effect and with a robust movement. Whether formal or casual occasion it fits the bill. As many would say, its a ROLEX KILLER.

My first Seiko 5, an SNK800-something I had a few years back sort of soured me on the range, it ran horribly, but contrary to my better judgement I recently picked up an SNK381 since it resembled a Tudor Ranger variant I didn't want to splurge on. And you know what? It's better than I possibly could have imagined. Beautiful applied indices like yours, a more Oyster-y case shape that makes it wear like a dream, and phenomenal polishing for the price which, admittedly, has been creeping up over the years. Icing on the cake is that it seems to run -2s/day off wrist and +2/day on wrist. Threw it on some decent enough black leather so as to not worry about the bracelet, and it's been my daily the last few weeks.
Bought mine for about 90 usd about 3 years ago... Thanks to TH-camrs its price is beginning to go up... Just kidding Pete... It deserves all the attention tho... Awesome piece and a must have in anyone collection. Great review as always Pete...
I picked one up recently as I don't think it'll be available for much longer. And the new range has nothing at this price point, so I had to snap one up. The bracelet is garbage though but nothing Ali Express can't fix for around £15! Lovely watch. Just looked and I paid £115 for the watch (almost exactly a month ago), new, via ebay. The same company is now selling them for £165! Still good value at that price TBH as I'm pretty sure it won't be around for much longer (it's not listed on Seiko's website, for example).
I have this exact same watch. Bought it about 9 months ago. Its my daily, loses about 1minute per week. I have to disagree with you about not worrying about beating it up. If im going to be doing things around the house, yard, whatever could present a danger to it, I take it off!! Lol. It still looks absolutely brand new by just using common sense. I paid 140 US dollars for it, NOS, its a made in Japan one, I feel I got my money's worth. Its very comfortable on my wrist, and of course the bracelet makes no noise when in use! Lol. Love the lume on it.
A great review again Peter. I like the look of the watch itself, and in particular the framed day/date but I would have liked it a lot more, if it was a little bigger. The strap I would replace pretty quickly. I had a big smile when you couldn’t resist regulating the movement, because I can imagine myself being the same, and I hope to be able to do the same thing myself soon. I have just bought a WeiShi 1900 timegrapher as a start, and I still need to get a decent case back opener. Could you please tell me what is your favourite case back opener that you would use? I’m really not sure about what case back opener to get, any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
I have a couple of these 37mm Seiko 5s and I like them even though they look a little small on my wrist. If I had one complaint (other than the bracelets) it would be the 4 O'clock crown it's small and is so tucked under the side of the case that it's hard to use.
in a similar vein, the SNK range is very similar in style and attractiveness, with a slightly better case (lower profile) that wears any 18mm strap you throw at it
My $50 Seiko 5 came with a thick bracelet that has a dual-button clasp. No ratting. Matches the case. Doesn't look like it would take a leather strap tho. Not that I'd want one. The wear out in a year.
I found that some of the Pulsar watches are just as good although they are quartz and make good beater watches. Still made by Seiko and as they are pensioning off the brand there are great deals to be had if you look around.
got 1 , looks amazing. Chanched the bracelet. for the price, its a gem. now my goal is to get a good Casio. and i gues, since i got my kids a Casio for there first watch, sorry seiko, but....yeah. Whatches. your first moment in time.
By the way, the bracelet's sporty look and jangle (described as flimsy), is classic 70s fashion style again. The watch and bracelet weren't designed to be a diver with robust solid links. To expect that from this SNXS70 series, given its price point, is simply outside of its intended design and purpose. Having said that, if you still don't like the stock bracelet, good options are putting it on a Jubilee bracelet, or on a center polished oyster bracelet. It will continue to be a stunner.
It is a handsome watch but a bit small for my 8 inch wrist. I noticed the bracelet had folded links. 😒 That bracelet looks like it has a curved end link, or can you change it and put something else on to make it better? But it's definitely worth the $140.
As mentioned above: The watch looks a lot sturdier and premium with the popular Rolamy Oyster bracelet from aliexpress (which fits the original end links).
Hi Peter, I've often wonderd, when it comes to the law of diminishing returns, what price point would you say you get the most for your money before it starts to reverse.
Great review, Peter. The only thing that came to mind is the data on the daily +/- on the machine. That is just a snapshot in time with it's accuracy. Over say a month's time of wearing it in different temperatures etc. I bet the accuracy would be vastly different. This real world use is something I have learned when checking my Seiko SBBN031 after one month of normal use and one month of conservative use where it was in stable temperatures and not worn while diving or similar activities.
@@PeterKotsa thank you for replying and so quickly! I am in Colorado, USA so a fair ways from Down Under. My Seiko SBBN031 was 1.52s fast after one month of easy use and stable temperatures. After a month of "normal" use, it was only up to 1.72s fast per month. I love this watch, and I know you do too! Did that guy ever want it back?
The Seiko watch band is kind of cool actually and I like the way it fits better than the Rolex watch band and that's because it doesn't pull the hairs on the arm and also number one reason is it feels like a bracelet on it doesn't feel like this overly heavy piece of jewelry it just feels like a bracelet and the way it curves to the wrist is very beautiful and elegant I actually like the bracelet a lot like I said I have been in the Rolex world and you can't even trade him in for your value but what I will say about a Seiko I have one that survived to 3 ft of snow for 2 weeks and then I picked it up and it had a little shake and then it kept working....
I’m confused about a small detail. A lot of these seiko 5’s, with 37mm cases that are all the same, using the same 7S26 caliber, all with display case backs…. Yet they can range in thicknesses from 11mm to 13mm+. Not sure why the disparity.
Was with you to the point you mentioned the case back It's literally seikos slimmest case back and lightest what are you on? If you know tbe modding scene that is the lightest caseback and thinnest especially seiko oem Glass casebacks are way lighter and robustness but I love the hardlex more..
Horses for courses: you can't beat seiko 5 for the combination of robust movement and beautiful dial. I bought an SNK623 for an everyday 'dressy work watch' ..the integrated bracelet annoys a lot of people but the polished/brushed elements match the case better than this one. Bargains while they last....

Just bought it from JOMASHOP during their holiday festive season !!! Eagerly awaiting !!! Lovely video
Thanks for sharing.
Budget watches are more in line with wallet 😉
I installed a jubilee and have few people ask me if that’s a day date on my wrist lol
I like the dial of my SNXS73 so much that I'm considering a mod with that dial but with 100m of water resistance to make ia true gada
Great video. What strap is on the SLA043J?

Hi Peter, I've often wonderd, when it comes to the law of diminishing returns, what price point would you say you get the most for your money before it starts to reverse.
Yeah it’s a vague area
I wore the 1960s version of the Seiko 5. I didn't like the flush crown which you had to pull out with your nail.
I subbed because we are in love with the same subject
👍
Hope you got the package that i shipped to you. Both have been serviced.
Not yet
Seiko ARE known for their bracelets. They're notorious for them.
Had mine for 20+ years. No issues. The model you are displaying is not a J1 model.
20 years and still going strong?, that's the best bang for buck I've seen..thanks for sharing 👍
True, I might have to tweak it after real world use to see how its accuracy suits my lifestyle and varying conditions..well said
@@PeterKotsa thank you for replying and so quickly!
@@MyWatchTherapy never wanted it back, very content 👍
What is model of your left hand ?
That 7S26 is very accurate. My SNX is more accurate than my Mini Tuna with the 4R35
Электронные часы, практично точно..!
Does it look ok on a 7.5 inch wrist...?
The Seiko watch band is kind of cool.
Seiko needs to redesign this watch and upgrade the quality.
could I change the braclet for something better? if so any recommendations?
Absolutely, try uncle seiko maybe, they might have a specific bracelet to fit
What bracelet did you go with?
Seiko 5 Automatic watch I like very much.but its dealer not available in India. I not seen. If available, I may provide address.
I’m confused about a small detail. A lot of these seiko 5’s, with 37mm cases that are all the same, using the same 7S26 caliber, all with display case backs…. Yet they can range in thicknesses from 11mm to 13mm+. Not sure why the disparity.
Welcome to the mystery of Seiko..haha
On a serious note, it all depends upon water resistance rating..the higher the rating the thicker the case
Its nice but the case diameter is too small for me
I have one of these watches, looks much better off the cheap bracelet and on a nice leather strap.
Was with you to the point you mentioned the case back
It's literally seikos slimmest case back and lightest what are you on? If you know tbe modding scene that is the lightest caseback and thinnest especially seiko oem
Glass casebacks are way lighter and robustness but I love the hardlex more..
From my experience, steel case backs have always been thinner than exhibition case backs
Why is this one any different?
Cheers

perfect for a sports watch
Horses for courses: you can't beat seiko 5 for the combination of robust movement and beautiful dial. I bought an SNK623 for an everyday 'dressy work watch' ..the integrated bracelet annoys a lot of people but the polished/brushed elements match the case better than this one. Bargains while they last....
