  • Added some 2 piece stainless mini apes from hammer psycle in Japan. Charging system failed during this ride (burnt stator windings). Was still an awesome day!

    Enjoy the Apes, Liam.
For what it's worth, I highly recommend CYCLE ELECTRIC products and I don't receive any special deals. I've had good luck with DRAG SPECIALTIES as well, just NOT their batteries.

Thank you - I will keep them in mind. I think I ended up with a new stator/rotor from Mid-West Cycle Supply, I popped them in quickly so I could get riding again, and so far so good. My battery is at 12.38V AFTER I get off the bike, I just wish I didn't have to rev it past 2000 RPM before the system really starts making a charge, because idling is just maintaining the battery, not charging it.

Sweet ride! What ignition are you running? I have an 80 80" and bringing it out after many years of storage.
The Dyna ignition I was using didn't last long and not sure what brand to go with. I added a kicker and like to
use it but sometimes its a pain. Thanks

Hey there, I’m running a dyna ignition, dual coil, custom plug wires. Haven’t had any issues other than your typical fine tuning of the timing for the bike and carb. It’s still not 100% perfect for me (doesn’t start on the 1st or 2nd kick each time … yet!).

Yep, just use a pipe cutter to get it going. You have to remember to section out about an inch or 1.5” from the center of the bars to maintain the same width. I still need to take out about 1/2-3/4” from each bar on mine to get it really dialed.

Killer bars, suks about the breakdown but it's always better after the fix (till the next part fails) part of whole deal being able to wrench on it yourself (hey what rear brake setup u run'n I can't find an aftermarket setup 4 my flu?

I have been trying to figure out the brakes on my bike. I’ve heard they’re first generation Performance Machine, and some other folks thought they were polished British calipers (girling or AP), but regardless, only the rear really works because the stock front master too big and it makes the front caliper feel like it’s a piece of wood. As for the breakdown, it was a charging system issue, and I’ve since replaced the stator and rotor. I’m going to ride the bike tonight!

Thanks so much James. I actually sectioned out another 1.5” the other week and now they’re an even better fit, and they aren’t wider than the nacelle at the bottom. I’ll get a different video going next time I’m able to take the bike out for a good run. Narrowing the bottom makes the headlight dominate the front profile since the tanks are the smaller 3.5 ones
