In regards to the swift defeat of the Jedi, I would say that there was some characterization of the Sith there. They struggled to fight the Jedi together, because cooperation isn't the Sith way, as evidenced when he just kills his own master. So when the master exits the fight, Malgus is able to fully concentrate on his target, instead of trying to work around another sith. Fighting as a team in melee is harder than you would think and requires a level of trust in the other. It really shows the difference between the Jedi and Sith.
This nails it on the head, it was actually showing the dichotomy of the light and dark. Teamwork vs brutal force, calm fighting vs rage filled constant attacking. Once the Master lost the second saber for that extra defense, the sheer brutality of the Sith overcame him.
also the theme, that Jedi are good together that make them stronger, but they are stronger when they fight to defend what they believe, thats why Master Jedi, could defeat 2v1 and kill the Lord Sith, but Sith are solo as you said, and thats why The new Lord Sith beat the lonely Jedi.
More then likely, after all the best way for a Sith master to not be killed by their apprentice is to keep them in check, hold them back until you need them then put them back in their place. @@raynanorfano8194
Same, though part of why I don't like it is a sizable part that accepts anything bad simply because it wasn't awful. Its like they didn't like what made star wars Star Wars.
I love that your honest reaction is "why couldn't the recent 3 movies have been like that?!" and I laughed hard, that was exactly what I thought going into every teaser/launch cinematic for SWTOR, they are so PURELY Star Wars
Disney threw out decades of established lore outside of the movies and then it just went further downhill from there. "Sequels" made and written by people who disdained the original Star Wars and dead certain they can do better.
@@mandalore1089 you disgust me 🤮🤮 the sequel is far far worse then the prequel, the prequel and the original is sooooooooooo much better. The sequel is god awful and a copy of the original
@@kaizammit If you're gonna be covering multiples, here's the order in case no one's told you yet: Original 3: Return (this one), Hope, Deceived (NOTE: The next 3 are still part of the timeline, but involve MOSTLY new characters from the third faction that appeared to wage war against both the Republic and the Sith Empire more than a decade after the events in the first three) Expansion Content: Sacrifice, Betrayed, Disorder
They are coming so stay tuned! I'm just trying out lots of different franchises like a box of chocolates to see what you guys (viewers) like. Thank you for watching, means a lot! KZ
Hi Kai, if you liked the trailer, you have to check out the "Betrayed and "Sacrifice" trailers from Star Wars - The Old Republic. They are absolutely amazing. I have rarely seen such epic and emotional trailers.
the reaction of the padawan to feeling her masters death is amazing. she just accepts it for the time being and concentrates on the task at hand. thats how the real jedi should be
I’m 100000% on board with more Old Republic cinematic reactions. They’re so visceral, so fun, and so…Star Wars. As you said, cinematics like this keeps me invested in Star Wars, shows me why I love Star Wars. I’m excited for you to get to the rest! They’re all so good!
The other interesting thing with this cinematic, is that it actually shows many of the class options available in the game. The smuggler, the trooper and 2 types of Jedi, as well as the 2 types of Sith. And yeah, this is probably some of the best star wars you're going to find out there! :-P
It also showed the abilities of the classes even if they're only showed for barely a second, like the Sith Inquisitor's shield before the Trooper's missile hits him @ 5:01 The same happens in Hope-trailer, when Satele switches at the end from Telekinetic to Disturbance or Turbulance.
@@kaizammitSorry about the late response, been working all week and i am on holidays now :). You should watch all the warcraft cinematics they are amazing, diablo has some cool cinematics as well (Cuz blizzard's team for cinematics is the only thing blizzard's good at xD) here are some more game cinematics: Overwatch, starcraft, Warhammer40K, elder scrolls online, league of legends (one of my favourites) and also i think you should react to some game trailers from gamescom.
Also i see that you kind of sped up things xd. Like you should watch diablo 1-2-3 cinematics and from 1-2 their remakes, also starcraft 1 cinematics are cool and Warhammer 40K space marines and a lot more I'm sure you will get a lot of suggestions
You were right. I did love this reaction too! Best comment from you must've been "Why weren't the last 3 films like that?" Already there I knew I was gonna love this reaction. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy hearing about how a film maker thinks about camera work, lighting, positions and has given me a bigger appreciation of storytelling.
That is his best comment, and its such a raw emotion to say as a star wars fan. Sad to think that executives push merch and franchise over good and rewarding story telling. Like im a film maker whos not proffessional and you see some of the most missed opportunities of camera work and pacing in new story ...aside from the story feeling like it got run over by a clown and then by that clown's tri pod.
So the reason the Sith Apprentice won against the Jedi Master so quickly is because his fighting style is centered around super aggressive strikes using his physical strength around breaking the enemies defense. Thats why he bested the jedi padawan so quickly because she couldnt keep up with his attacks. But when the Jedi Master was fighting him, he was able to predict his attacks and quickly counter the sith UNTIL he threw the explosive ship part at the sith. The sith used that explosion as a distraction to get close to the jedi master, which allowed him to catch the jedi master off guard and put the jedi on full defensive mode which ended the fight because the jedi masters defense wasnt able to keep up with the aggressive nature and physical strength of the sith apprentice
I think a small part of it (not a correction but an addendum) is Kao Cen Darach (the Jedi master) is extremely smart and intuitive as a duelist, hence him having the Battlemaster title. Basically playing a chess match, putting his opponent into the position he wants. So they show him using a single bladed and double bladed sabers both as a single for a while making his opponent react to a very specific fighting style, then right before a hit turning the double bladed into a true double bladed. He pushed his opponent into a position where he could capitalize on an angle his opponent wouldn't think he could reach (him killing him with his back turned was also a good way of showing people with less experience/knowledge of fights and duels). When the fight becomes a true 1v1, Malgus knows enough / senses enough, to know he can't let this Jedi dictate the fight or give him even a second of time to think, so he keeps going, from every angle as hard and fast as he can. Malgus knows his opponent is a smarter fighter than him, so he takes that away. The fight just turns into like Batman without prep time V Doomsday. I also like how its kinda implied Malgus wanted his master to die during the fight, hoping to use it to his advantage, which shows how intuitive and battle savvy Malgus is. As right before that moment he repositions.
@@Thynomad-B To add onto this too, Sith apprentices always hid their true power from their masters because it was common knowledge that the only way to advance within the Sith order was to kill your master and take their place. That's another reason why Malgus seemed to have turned it up to 11 after his master fell to the Jedi because he knew that his master was no longer a threat to him and so there was no strategic disadvantage to not show his full power anymore.
Cao Cen Darach was exhausted. After fighting a 2v2, then a 1v2, in which one of his foes stepped aside, allowing himself to catch his breath a bit, let his master/Jedi opponent hopefully kill each other, then clean house afterward. Calculated thinking and ferocious execution
Ive seen all these trailers a million times, but since im fascinated by "the behind the scenes" of how shots are made or why a certain scene is done...I loved this video! Can't wait to see the others!
You are doing all my favourite cinematics. Love your work man. Great breakdowns. I know nothing about film and dont ever plan on learning alot but hearing some of the comments you made on some videos has made me look out for things in movies and tv shows im watching to see why im enthralled. Means you are enthralling too!
I watched this cinematic years ago and never really understood why I latched onto the smuggler so quickly. Sure the slow motion shots emphasize the "cool factor", but being placed in the center of clones and jedi at the beginning really does establish his importance from the first instance we see them. Also the iconic sounds and music in star wars almost feels like a cheat code. The degree of information an audience member (both those savvy to to star wars and newcomers to the universe) can immediately grasp onto is staggering. Lastly, the editing was absolutely on point. Before I even realized the Thomas the Tank Engine theme put a smile on my face. Really hammers home your point!
Glad you enjoyed it. The power of amazing films and if they are done as well as this, then they leave that lasting impression. Sadly, a lot of films don't do that this day and age. Quick, get it done and out the door... we need money! Thank you again for watching and commenting! KZ
Im a beginning filmmaker and i really appreciate the feedbake you give on these cinimatics and the indepth breakdowns you give! It really gives me insight on examples I can use to what you are explaining to help me better focus on what I need to improve on and what I can learn from! Thank you very much!
Amazing to hear and welcome to the storytelling family! I've just recorded two amazing breakdowns so stick with the channel, I was very inspired by what I watched. I'm excited to share with you guys. I'm really glad I can help you grow as a storyteller. Amazing stuff! KZ
It is, first and foremost, a commercial for the game. It highlights the video game's classes (especially the Smuggler class), and the starship combat. It also introduces us to Sateel (who will become the head of the Jedi council. It's, overall, a pretty good advertisement for the game. But it also does a great job in four minutes of telling us this whole story. We get the character of the smuggler (even though we never hear his name or the name of his ship - because he's supposed to be the Player). And a bit of the Trooper class (we'll see him in later videos). We see Sateel and her master, and that Sateel is apparently more sensitive to the force, though we see how much more skilled he is (at least in combat). We see Malgus and his master (since Sateel and Malgus are NPCs you meet in the game, they get to have names), and how nasty he can be when he gets mad, (followed up with the whole the Sith apprentice only graduates to master by killing off his master scene). We get how surprised the Jedi are that the Sith have reappeared. We see that the Sith are proud to have retaken the Sith homeworld as their first step to their attack on the Republic. We see design elements Star Wars fans are familiar with: all the Sith Empire ships share designs that visually link to the Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters we're familiar with. The smuggler's ship is obviously reminiscent of the Millennium Falcon. And we finish the video with both Sateel and Malgus becoming masters in the wake of their own masters' deaths. And they pull of this whole story of the escape from Coroban in a four minute trailer. It's not the best CGI animation ever (the faces, though rather flat, still express enough emotion for you to get what they're feeling.) The only real Big Question it leaves hanging (and, as I recall from playing the game - never really answers) is where the heck has the Sith Empire been hiding for a thousand years that they could build a fleet that big and none of the Jedi were even remotely aware that they were out there.
The two on one fight felt like the Jedi master was dominating because Malgus (the Sith apprentice) wasn't going all out and the Jedi also used his enemies' weapons against them, redirecting the lightning from one Sith to the other, which knocked down for a bit Malgus; but after Malgus recovered, we see the change, as he channels his emotions to build up his power and his strikes become faster and stronger, something the Jedi master wasn't expecting. There's also a mistake made by the Jedi master at the end, when he launched the last object, as it exploded, he lost balance and didn't have enough time to recover before being attack by the Sith, who overwhelmed him like an avalanche. This trailer is still my favorite of all the SWToR ones, because it takes all the iconic elements that made Star Wars great and blended them together in a short movie that also serves to present some of the core classes of the game, plus a couple of subclasses.
I liked how apprentice beat the jedi master there at the end. You could see how Malgus was slowly and slowly building up his rage and anger - which is a source of sith power and overwhelmed the master in the end. His blows became more brutal and powerful, reminded me of Vader's technique, and in fact of Luke when he finally defeated his father. Edit: just wait until you see Knights of the Fallen Empire and Knights of the Eternal Throne cinematics.
glad you make it each of these ~5 min trailers are better than all Disney StarWars movies combined and what even more fascinating about them - most of these trailers were made back in 2012

yeah :D ! The best star wars cinematics out there, you're going to enjoy them ^^ In order here is the full list if you don't want to miss one "Return", "Hope", "Deceived", "Sacrifice", "Betrayed", "Discorder"
You should react to all of the trailers for this game. This, “Hope”, and “Deceived” are all continuations of that story. Particularly in that order. And then there’s “Sacrifice” and “Betrayed”, that are a different story and characters. They’re all amazing
Kao Cen Darach, the Jedi master at one stage during that barrage right at the end lost Satele Shan's double bladed blue saber, then he's very much on the back foot and Malgus's approach was masked by a giant explosion, so might have been a bit quick, but it is just a trailer and we're then trying to get back to Satele and Nico on his ship, keep going though, they're all awesome, about 20 minutes of trailer for the original game then another great cinematic trailer for each expansion, I think it's passed a half hour closer to 45 minutes of awesome star wars footage, I'd love to see them do a full cinematic movie or series with that kind of quality in that Star Wars era. also, love your work and new sub
I'd also like to point out that he likely hasn't fought a sith for quite some time. When you're out of combat, it's easy to get rusty after enough time.
Just found your channel today and I am absolutely delighted by the immediately apparent amount of work and care you put into your videos, I love your very detailed breakdowns, supplemented with all the necessary visual material to facilitate understanding. You give a lot of great insights and manage to deliver them comprehensively. Plus, your honest joy while watching the trailer is just bliss for someone who has loved these cinematics for years. Looking forward to more Warcraft and Star Wars ToR in particular!
Thank you and welcome to the channel! Sadly I've had to change the format due to time to edit them. Now I break them down with you rather than highlighting. I hope you enjoy the new format as much as this one. Thank you for watching. KZ
Malgus Is the name of the sith Apprentice. If you pay attention., after it becomes 2 on 1, he is sand bagging in the fight. He is waiting for his master to take a serious wound. That way Malgus can supersede him easier. There are still another 4 videos. I hope you do them all..
grew up watching these and love them and love star wars and wish disney could get their crap together and make movies i this era like everyone wants and not trying to tear star wars apart like their doing now
and one more thing on the character introduction- this is a GAME intro video; so they where also introducing you to the classes of that are in the game on top of achieving everything else- the jedi knight and guardian, the smugler/gunslinger, the republic troopers and then in roll the sith warrior and assassin (including some of the ingame skills as well)...
Would be interested to see your breakdown and description of how the new films tarnished the franchise (and what was good about them). It's been done a before, but I'd like to see it done in your style.
That would take me a while if I did it in my style as it stands. Also, I'd have to re-watch the last two as I've scrubbed them from my mind. Sadly, that immediately tells me something about those films. If a story doesn't leave a lasting impression, then it has missed its point. I like the idea of me covering it though, nice one! Thank you for watching. KZ
As a fellow SW fan, it feels awesome to fan-boy with you when watching this. The Old Republic era is just on a whole different level. I really hope you're planning to watch all the cinematics (in order)! :) Also, we don't talk about...the latest 3 movies, hahaha.
That's hilarious! Do you know what, I don't normally think of them when I think of Star Wars, tells you something right?! I want my videos to be like we're hanging out and then at the end, I tell you something nerdy from the filmmaking side of things. Thank you for hanging out with me fella! KZ P.S. I will be covering the other 5/6.
Thank you! Someone noted the camera focus during lightsaber duels. One of the biggest issues I found with the Kenobi series was the screen shake during the duels. Felt like I was going to vomit trying to get through it. Lightsaber duels have to have that unique focus to bring people in.
thats Malgus speciality, he building up rage over the fight and because his master lost it was giving him a boost, and longer he is in the fight the stronger he is getting because he focusing more and more to the fight
Darth Malgus is amazing. From a simple sith apprentice (this trailer) to the commander of the invasion of Alderaan, "the Devastator of Coruscant", one of the most influential Darths in the Sith Empire, "the Traitor" and just a very cheerful and powerful old man. All SVTOR cinematics are actually about his life.
The swift death of the Jedi(can’t remember his name) was to show that Malgus is a brute, he has complete control of his rage and anger and uses that to become stronger.
Those Old Republic trailer were just stunning. My favorite one was the Knights of the Fallen Empire trailer with the two broders. Just sooooo good and a great example for the concept of show don´t tell
From what I know of Darth Malgus, there's a chance he was simply waiting for the Jedi to kill Darth Vindican (Malgus' master), or at least wound him, so Malgus could finish him off later. After Vindican fell, Malgus no longer needed to hold back. As soon as Kao Cen Darach (the Jedi Master) noticed the sudden change in Malgus, he knew to keep his distance, and decided to battle with debree to hold him off as long as he could. It's as if Malgus can focus his rage and unleash it in one sudden burst of violence, overwhelming his enemies. One of my favourite aspects of the trailer is that the lightsaber fight was beautifully choreographed, but it immediately turned rough, no longer entertaining the Jedi with a typical duel. Its just Malgus purely on the offensive and Darach purely on the defensive. We even see it when Malgus used his knee to knock down Satele Shan (Jedi Padawan), before bringing his lightsaber down to her, until Darach threw his own lightsaber to stop him.
17:53 - It's all characterization in that this is the first introduction to the world of The Old Republic for the cold callers (love your term here), and it's important to see that the Jedi are stronger together and the Sith are stronger on their own. The Sith way is built on personal power and rivalry, so while the Jedi are fighting with each other, the Sith are fighting each other to get to the enemy targets. Also - the Jedi Master has been fighting two on one for a while, and the first Sith he defeated is primarily a Force user rather than a lightsaber duelist (it's like he was fighting the Wizard of the group) while Darth Malgus (the victor of the battle) is a Sith Warrior rather than a Sith Sorcerer.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you stick around with the channel as there are plenty more of these reaction and breakdowns coming. Also going to be starting a reaction and thoughts (mini review) to other content too. In game footage, short films etc. More content for you (viewers) to enjoy. KZ
Something to Note about when Malgus faces off against the jedi master is that he wins by disabling the right arm. If you watch carefully, there's a moment where he swings his right blade past the jedi and then reverses the point of the Saber back towards the body, in that same motion he stretches just enough to jab the shoulder/pectoral of the jedi causing him to drop his padawan's Saber and leaving him at half his defense. Add to that, the fact that Malgus is swinging with tremendous force as made evident by how seamlessly he dismantled the thrown wreckage, and you can see how his power and precision overcame the Master Jedi. -Side note from the writing perspective, everything was set up to be that the Master would die in sacrifice. He was never going to win anyway according to what they had set up.
The way I read the end of the fight is like this. Malgus (the sith apprentice) uses the momentum from his jump to deliver a big strike coming down. This throws the Jedi Master off balance. Malgus pushes his advantage and the Master's second lightsaber is knocked away. Then he starts delivering a series of fast and powerful strikes that overwhelms the Jedi Master and he eventually connects. This, to me, is very realistic. In real-world sword fighting or fencing, if you're constantly on the defensive, you're gonna get hit eventually. If you never deliver a strike of your own or counter or create distance to reset the tempo of the fight, it becomes a statistical probability. You're going to get hit. That's why ome of the things you'll see in new sword fighters is that theyll be timid in the fight. So a more experianced fighter can overwhelm them, simply by being more aggressive in the attack. The Jedi Master is able to fend off both Sith because he is controlling the distance between him and his foes, he has a good strong balance, and he's not just defending. Notice how when he loses, Malgus had closed the distance, the Master is off balance, and he is purely on the defensive.
18:14 It's part of the visual storytelling, after his master is hurt, the sith gets scared, and channels that fear into anger - his fight or flight response is most definitely, fight. He's not going to LET the jedi kill him, no matter what. By resuming the fight when all hope would be lost for him, the sith takes control over his future. The jedi, meanwhile, had resigned to death the moment he sent his padawan away. Then, there's the interaction between the padawan and her dead master, and the sith apprentice and his still-living master. If you want to go really deep into it, both the fight and its aftermath is like a dialogue between the jedi and the sith, as ideologies. The spirit in which every act starting from entering the hangar is as follows: Jedi: "We know what they are and we are not afraid of this enemy. Go, we will defend you." - There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. Then when he sends the padawan away, "Go and do not worry for me. This is my fate, but not yours." - There is no passion, there is serenity. As he fights off both of the sith, deflecting their blows and keeping them at bay, he sends yet another message, "I am not moved by your reckless attacks." - There is no chaos, there is harmony. Then, we start "hearing" the sith reply, "If peace is so important to you, then I'll give you the peace of death." - Peace is a lie, there is only passion. As he approaches, "You will not kill me. I will survive. I will show my master that I am better than he is." - Through passion, I gain strength. As he keeps cutting through the objects thrown at him, he continues, "I am the one who decides my fate, not you." Through strength, I gain power. As he kills the jedi, once again, "And that is why you were doomed from the start." - Through power, I gain victory. Then both the jedi and the sith say their final pieces as they confront their masters - the padawan, contemplates that death is not an end - but the beginning of a journey, "There is no death, only the force", while the sith goes to his master and confirms the last part of his own code by breaking the chain of command, killing him and ensuring his own ascension: "Through victory my chains are broken." It adds up from the beginning that the story is being told from two perspectives at the same time. The jedi are on a station above the sith homeworld, in ruins. We can only surmise they were at least part of the reason why it's in ruins, and that they're blockading people from landing or taking off. More than that, we learn that the world is being desecrated by smugglers looting the graves. The jedi are implied to be the ones in the right, but they are quite literally occupying a former enemy's homeworld and making sure it remains uninhabited. They're not necessarily 100% in the right here. The sith are the aggressors, yes, but to themselves, they're liberators, while to the jedi, the republic are only keeping the peace by preventing resettlement. We see the "good guys" winning, Nico and Malcolm (presumably) slaughtering the empire's troops, but at the same time we see an uphill battle to retake what was theirs to begin with. It culminates with the sith themselves boarding the station, and from then on the philosophical back and forth in the form of combat is had. It's all on purpose, so you can view the scene from either point of view, because the game itself also allows you to play from either point of view. It's a little curious that you haven't picked up on those subtleties - if you don't know too much about star wars I can understand not getting the philosophical choreography, but the rest is stated and shown in the trailer.
In regards to your question: to my understanding of SW lore one of the reasons the rule of 2 was implemented for the Sith is because they have to “share” the dark side. More dark side users means they are all collectively weaker. So when the master goes down and is struggling I would assume that his portion of the dark side was relinquished a little making his apprentice that much stronger. And he was able to over power the Jedi Master. Also with the rule of 2: 1 master 1 apprentice. And there is only 1 way to become a sith master.
youre in for a treat with the other SWTOR cinematics! love the breakdowns, feels like im learning more about why i like certain things or feel a disconnect for other things when watching movies or anything really my understanding for sith apprentices is that they can sometimes tend to be super powerful because theyre often unbridled wrecking balls of passion/anger - whereas jedi masters tend to be more atuned to the 'cosmic force' rather than the living force. this just means where straight up combat is concerned, sometimes apprentices can overpower. darth maul fighting qui gon and obi wan at the same time in ep 1 comes to mind. i think blur studio did these? they also did the elder scrolls online cinematics. they go hard
I'm looking forward to them! This made me fall back in love with Star Wars man. Glad you still feel like you're learning, yay✌🏻. The Jedi master was completely overwhelmed, it was quite something. Thank you again for coming back and watching, means a lot fella. KZ
About the last fight between Malgus and the Jedi Master… I’m a film student but also a historical fencer, which is something that changes my point of view in many of this types of fighting sequences, and I’d say that even though there’s are lot of human imposibilites (obviously, it’s Star Wars), it would still be normal to be completely exhausted after fighting for that long, with magical space powers and all. So in realistic terms, it is not bad at all that Malgus finishes him off that quickly, considering he stopped fighting when he was pushed with the force. Also, fighting against two opponents and winning is not impossible, but it’s well damn closed to be, and the fact that the Jedi Master endures that ordeal on his own is also a great factor to consider how drained he is to be an easy target afterwards.
In regards to framing important characters, each person who received a slow motion shot in this trailer represents one of the game's primary classes. Jedi Knight, Jedi Councilor, Republic Trooper, Smuggler, Sith Warrior, and Sith Inquisitor. The other two dark side classes, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent aren't shown in this trailer. Bounty Hunter is shown in the third trailer 'Deceived' while none of the trailers show an Imperial Agent (which makes all the sense given that their entire thing is to blend in). Every character that lived through this trailer holds an important place in the game's setting during the time frame of the game. Yes, even the droid. The levels of narrative and environmental storytelling displayed in this trailer continue on throughout the game's events. In some places it gets a bit shaky, mainly in places where all classes are funneled into running the same events in the same manner (normally each class exists in the same overall timeline but their story is unique to their class POV).
Is that his name!? Malgus interesting... thanks for the information fella. I'm definitely going to be watching them all, I'd be stupid not too. Thank you for watching! KZ
Personaly i thought the sith apprentice just started to fight with much more brutal force then before when he tryed to fight with his master together, now in single combat he was more focused on just forward kill.
For those who never realise, teh Zabrak jedi master in the return was the, at the time, Temple Blademaster(the one considered the best duelist at the time, teaching the new generation. Could so be Battlemaster and not Blademaster). Those guys are badass incarnate in an era of badasses XD
This is the star wars cinematic universe I would love to see on big screen but am afraid of it at the same time. With how damaged of a reputation the franchise has I wouldn't dare get my hopes up on the era before "Rule of two" became a thing.
That throwing saber block is to Jedi, it really is one of my all-time favorite scenes ever. Nico (the Smuggler) is crazy funny well written. One of the more entertaining companions and he's in the expansion. (Not to undersell ANY of the other's stories, his dialogue is just a hoot)
I haven't read all the comments so I don't know if someone mentioned it, but I would say the camera movements looked so organic because they may have done the scene with motion capture and with a camera guy there filming them. I don't know how would it work though, that's just a guess.
Well this came out of nowhere :) This was really entertaining and informative. These vids are amazing, the sequel fights have nothing on them tbh the less we talk about those movies the better. Can't wait for the rest, they're really good.

@kaizammit I guess it's worth mentioning that there is an order to these trailers. So you should watch them in the following order if possible. Return Hope Deceived Sacrifice Betrayal Disorder
Just my take on why Malgus was able to beat the Jedi Master: The Sith use emotions like rage to harness the force and make themselves more powerful. I suspect that having his master run through by the Jedi, and then having the Jedi throwing those huge pieces of debris at him fueled his rage and, in essence, he literally did level up from 50 to 100. I'm not an expert on Star Wars lore, but this is how I interpreted it.
yes, in this game, while all the other classes have a stock of energy or ammo they deplete as they use skills, Jedi Knights & Sith Warriors do the opposite, they have to build up from scratch. The Jedi build focus (and some of their best attacks take, say, 5 focus points, which takes a while to get) The Sith build... RAGE. And Malgus was more and more enraged, literally, "on fire". So this is a FANTASTIC way of conveying how rage buiilds up for a Sith warrior in SWTOR, so seamless. But then again, Malgus is kind of rage's own Chosen One.... Which makes me think of.... have you seen the reimagined Death Star Vader vs Obi-Wan fight ? It came years before the Kenobi series, and it's BONKERS. It's called Scene 38 Reimagined, by FXitinPost.
Beyond just the quality of the cinematic itself, it should be noted that as a GAME trailer it's highlighting all the playable classes, so no matter who you are if you think one character is the coolest you can do something similar in the game. Extremely well thought out in that way.
The only class that isn't in any of the Big 3 trailers are Imperial Agents, I believe. You have Knights, Consulars, Smugglers, Troopers, Warriors, Inquisitors, and Bounty Hunters, but no Agents. Guess that makes sense, since they aren't really supposed to be in the spotlight.
Malgus, the Sith Apprentice, was holding back during the fight until the point that his Master, Darth Vindican, was injured. He was planning on succeeding his Master.
remember when starwars actually had their actors take swordsmanship lessons, and the choreographed fight scenes were well paced and practical with the actors putting in the work to learn the moves and timing? Makes me really miss the prequels XD and this animation, damn, makes me want an Old Republic aniamterd show
@everyone @kaizammit Thank you for this great reaction video. And this is gift for you Whatch this before Ashoka show. These are great KAI, would love to see more of your opinions on cinematics! Im a 3D artist and its very fun and educational to hear your thoughts on these. Would love to suggest Star Wars - Hope cinematic and Mass effect cinematics as well.
Once ive covered the current franchise I'm doing, I will be returning to the Star Wars universe. I believe I've got another 5 to do! Gulp! That's a lot of work haha.
To me the the Sith apprentices rapid shift in power level was a sign he was deliberately underperforming to conceal the threat he posed to his master. Notice that Darth Maglus only unleashes his full power "AFTER" his master has been severely wounded; he saw that now was his moment.
"OH! I didn't see THAT coming!" Yeah, neither did that Sith Master! lol The trailer/ cinematics for this game are just AMAZING! (I've never played the actual game [yet], but I LOVE these trailers!)
Oh I like that! KZ
also the theme, that Jedi are good together that make them stronger, but they are stronger when they fight to defend what they believe, thats why Master Jedi, could defeat 2v1 and kill the Lord Sith, but Sith are solo as you said, and thats why The new Lord Sith beat the lonely Jedi.
I actually think the sith master was holding back malgus from how the fight went like the saber throw and force lightning being deflected to malgus
More then likely, after all the best way for a Sith master to not be killed by their apprentice is to keep them in check, hold them back until you need them then put them back in their place.

“That reminded me of why I used to love Star Wars” - I feel you on that one brother 🥲
Tell me about it! Thank you for watching, KZ
@@MoreEvilThanYahweh Still better than the godawful Prequels which isn't saying much.
@@mandalore1089 haha your funny
@@mandalore1089 you disgust me 🤮🤮 the sequel is far far worse then the prequel, the prequel and the original is sooooooooooo much better.
The sequel is god awful and a copy of the original
The orignal 3 cinematics for SWTOR are still some of my favorite game cinematics ever made.
The expansion ones are also quite good
I will be covering at least six of them, that's how many I had on my list. This being one of them. Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed it. KZ
@@kaizammit If you're gonna be covering multiples, here's the order in case no one's told you yet:
Original 3: Return (this one), Hope, Deceived
(NOTE: The next 3 are still part of the timeline, but involve MOSTLY new characters from the third faction that appeared to wage war against both the Republic and the Sith Empire more than a decade after the events in the first three)
Expansion Content: Sacrifice, Betrayed, Disorder
Thank you for this, Dude! Loving your profile pic if it's what I think it is. Have you tried Bomb Rush Cyberfunk? KZ
@@kaizammit If you think it's Beat from Jet Grind Radio you're right. And I have not, but I'm definitely gonna go google it now.
"Why weren't the last 3 Star Wars films like that" I ask myself that question everyday lad.....every.....day
I hope you react to the other cinematic trailers for the Old Republic, there's such good storytelling in them!
They are coming so stay tuned! I'm just trying out lots of different franchises like a box of chocolates to see what you guys (viewers) like. Thank you for watching, means a lot! KZ
God yes i need more reactions to SW:ToR cinematics. The first one will always be my favorite, especially with ol' Nico.
I hope you enjoyed it! KZ
Hi Kai,
if you liked the trailer, you have to check out the "Betrayed and "Sacrifice" trailers from Star Wars - The Old Republic. They are absolutely amazing. I have rarely seen such epic and emotional trailers.
yes please!
the reaction of the padawan to feeling her masters death is amazing. she just accepts it for the time being and concentrates on the task at hand. thats how the real jedi should be
I’m 100000% on board with more Old Republic cinematic reactions. They’re so visceral, so fun, and so…Star Wars. As you said, cinematics like this keeps me invested in Star Wars, shows me why I love Star Wars. I’m excited for you to get to the rest! They’re all so good!
I'm excited to see where they go, it's also nice knowing I've got another 5 to watch too. I'm in for a good time I hope. Thanks for watching man, KZ.
The other interesting thing with this cinematic, is that it actually shows many of the class options available in the game. The smuggler, the trooper and 2 types of Jedi, as well as the 2 types of Sith. And yeah, this is probably some of the best star wars you're going to find out there! :-P
It also showed the abilities of the classes even if they're only showed for barely a second, like the Sith Inquisitor's shield before the Trooper's missile hits him @ 5:01
The same happens in Hope-trailer, when Satele switches at the end from Telekinetic to Disturbance or Turbulance.
These cinematics are amazing honestly, can't wait for you to react to them all!
Oh... they are coming! I hope you enjoy those videos too. KZ
I'm usually watching reactions to game cinematics when I'm on TH-cam, if you wanna know some gems let me know xd but you probably will react to them
Give me your list! This channel is about sharing the fun ;) KZ
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you stick around with the channel, KZ.
Even the older cinematics are just awesome. But the new ones are just breath takingly amazing
I look forward to watching them, exciting times! KZ
Boy i love Malgus ! Such a badazz.
My fav Sith is Darth Marr tho, but that's just me. :)
yeah that's all good points, especially like when Kao Cen Darach uses the sith master's lightning and deflects it into Malgus@@Thynomad-B
"This is why I used to like star wars." That hurt, because it's true.
You are doing all my favourite cinematics. Love your work man. Great breakdowns. I know nothing about film and dont ever plan on learning alot but hearing some of the comments you made on some videos has made me look out for things in movies and tv shows im watching to see why im enthralled. Means you are enthralling too!
🙏🏻 Thank you so much! KZ
Yessss. If they only made an entire movie with this level of quality…
Can’t wait for you to see the rest of them! They are all top level
Star wars is my favorite series and I really apprecieate the examples you give on this feedback and helps me progress my cinimetography!
It's not the best CGI animation ever (the faces, though rather flat, still express enough emotion for you to get what they're feeling.)
The only real Big Question it leaves hanging (and, as I recall from playing the game - never really answers) is where the heck has the Sith Empire been hiding for a thousand years that they could build a fleet that big and none of the Jedi were even remotely aware that they were out there.
4:58 Pretty much every Star Wars fan has asked that question
Please, Please, PLEASE breakdown the rest of these!! They're all AWESOME!!!
Oh I will be! This one got me all excited, I'd be stupid not to cover the rest. Thank you for watching and commenting! KZ
glad you make it
each of these ~5 min trailers are better than all Disney StarWars movies combined
and what even more fascinating about them - most of these trailers were made back in 2012
Wow, this is why I say it doesn't matter how old something is, if it's done correctly, it becomes timeless. Thank you so much for watching, KZ.
"Why weren't the last three episodes like this?" Buddy, we have all be saying this for years.
I feel your pain haha. Thanks for watching fella! KZ

I'm with you on this one. The score is epic, to say the least.
I am so glad I was among who recommended this. You are going to love the rest, they get better. Really enjoying your analyses
yeah :D ! The best star wars cinematics out there, you're going to enjoy them ^^
In order here is the full list if you don't want to miss one "Return", "Hope", "Deceived", "Sacrifice", "Betrayed", "Discorder"
Amazing, thank you so much for watching and supplying me with the list. KZ
Decivied is the best one in my opinion
I look forward to it. KZ
You should react to all of the trailers for this game. This, “Hope”, and “Deceived” are all continuations of that story. Particularly in that order. And then there’s “Sacrifice” and “Betrayed”, that are a different story and characters. They’re all amazing
I enjoyed this one very much, I will be returning to this franchise so keep an eye on this channel. Thanks for watching fella!
KZ
Dude, these Old Republic games have rekindled my love for Star Wars. Play them
Malgus Is the name of the sith Apprentice. If you pay attention., after it becomes 2 on 1, he is sand bagging in the fight. He is waiting for his master to take a serious wound. That way Malgus can supersede him easier.
There are still another 4 videos. I hope you do them all..
Thank you for telling me his name, Malgus. Got it! He's an animal and I love it. I will be covering the rest, I hope you enjoy them too. KZ
@kaizammit Sat-eal is the female jedi apprentice, notbhow you spell her name, but thats how its pronounced. Both are in other vids.
Fantastic, I get to see these characters growth from one to the other. Wicked! KZ
grew up watching these and love them and love star wars and wish disney could get their crap together and make movies i this era like everyone wants and not trying to tear star wars apart like their doing now
Nah 4:57 killed me hahaha the deep concern is what all Star Wars fans felt when you said that.
Man I can't wait to see your reaction to the other old Republic Trailers. They are all Top Notch! Have fun!
They are coming, after watching this, how could I not watch them!? KZ
and one more thing on the character introduction- this is a GAME intro video; so they where also introducing you to the classes of that are in the game on top of achieving everything else- the jedi knight and guardian, the smugler/gunslinger, the republic troopers and then in roll the sith warrior and assassin (including some of the ingame skills as well)...
4:57 millions of SW fans asked themself this question
Also, we don't talk about...the latest 3 movies, hahaha.
That's hilarious! Do you know what, I don't normally think of them when I think of Star Wars, tells you something right?! I want my videos to be like we're hanging out and then at the end, I tell you something nerdy from the filmmaking side of things. Thank you for hanging out with me fella! KZ
They lost the art of it with the new Star Wars, it's just old fashion action camera work.
The 30min collective video on yt is better than the sequels and solo put together
thats Malgus speciality, he building up rage over the fight and because his master lost it was giving him a boost, and longer he is in the fight the stronger he is getting because he focusing more and more to the fight
Would love to see your reactions to the other Old Republic cinematics
I will be covering the other 5/6 cinematics. This was me trying it out and yeah, loved it. I want more please! Thanks for watching and commenting, KZ.
I just wish for a star movie like this and this mature.
They might do but it won't be for years. Thanks for watching fella! KZ
2:44 I sense a great darkness. Yet you couldn't even give the station a 5 seconds heads up.
Can't wait for you to watch "Deceived" Trailer... my absolute favorite!
Great Video as always! Loved it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest, this really has set the bar or at least my hype for it. Thank you for watching. KZ
Thanks for your reaction! I really like how you analize satile's master walking away from her, I havent thought about it's effect in that way :D
Then both the jedi and the sith say their final pieces as they confront their masters - the padawan, contemplates that death is not an end - but the beginning of a journey, "There is no death, only the force", while the sith goes to his master and confirms the last part of his own code by breaking the chain of command, killing him and ensuring his own ascension: "Through victory my chains are broken."
It adds up from the beginning that the story is being told from two perspectives at the same time.
And there is only 1 way to become a sith master.
youre in for a treat with the other SWTOR cinematics! love the breakdowns, feels like im learning more about why i like certain things or feel a disconnect for other things when watching movies or anything really
my understanding for sith apprentices is that they can sometimes tend to be super powerful because theyre often unbridled wrecking balls of passion/anger - whereas jedi masters tend to be more atuned to the 'cosmic force' rather than the living force. this just means where straight up combat is concerned, sometimes apprentices can overpower. darth maul fighting qui gon and obi wan at the same time in ep 1 comes to mind.
i think blur studio did these? they also did the elder scrolls online cinematics. they go hard
I'm looking forward to them! This made me fall back in love with Star Wars man. Glad you still feel like you're learning, yay✌🏻.
The Jedi master was completely overwhelmed, it was quite something. Thank you again for coming back and watching, means a lot fella. KZ
10:34 Tip: Always be heard before you are seen, so new people you meet know you're the main character.
This is one of the most badass cinematics ever saw, why star wars movies arent like this ? they could have make so much money of this
I agree!
These are hands down among the greatest pieces of art made for a game.
If only the newer movies had captured the spirit of these cinematics...
Wauw that light saber battle!!!!!! (from 1:42 untill 8;08) Reminded me of the fight in Phantom Menace!! (Where Qui-gon gin died half-way through)
Me too! Thanks for watching fella, KZ
Haha! Love these cinematics. You should definitely watch them all! You'll even see Malgus, the Sith apprentice, return a few times!
Is that his name!? Malgus interesting... thanks for the information fella. I'm definitely going to be watching them all, I'd be stupid not too. Thank you for watching! KZ
@@kaizammitYou can read portions of his journal in The Book of the Sith. Alongside the works of Sorsuz Syn, Bane, Plagueis and Sidious.
We all also wondered why Disney couldn't make Star Wars movie like this lol.
Great vid, glad to see a video made on this.
Great idea for videos. Always love that games look more and more cinematic.
Personaly i thought the sith apprentice just started to fight with much more brutal force then before when he tryed to fight with his master together, now in single combat he was more focused on just forward kill.
need more of this!!!!
Than you shall have it! ✌🏻 KZ
For those who never realise, teh Zabrak jedi master in the return was the, at the time, Temple Blademaster(the one considered the best duelist at the time, teaching the new generation. Could so be Battlemaster and not Blademaster). Those guys are badass incarnate in an era of badasses XD
His name is Kao-Cen Darach. And he is, in fact, a complete and total badass!!
I'm looking forward to covering all the rest, hopefully you stick with the channel and enjoy the videos. KZ
I haven't read all the comments so I don't know if someone mentioned it, but I would say the camera movements looked so organic because they may have done the scene with motion capture and with a camera guy there filming them. I don't know how would it work though, that's just a guess.
That could totally work! KZ
What you saw was before the buy from Disney, where George expected a certain quality for his creation.
As a film maker, if you liked this cinematic you'll love the one called "Sacrifice". That one is so powerful.
I'm very excited to watch it now! You've hyped it up for me. Awesome sauce. Thank you for commenting, KZ.
@@kaizammit you won't regret it. I'll watch your reaction the moment you post it.
"This reminds me why I used to love Star Wars." Yeah...
Ive never quite clocked it before, but when the Jedi Master tells his Padawan to leave, he kinda sounds like Sir Alec Guinness.
Well this came out of nowhere :) This was really entertaining and informative. These vids are amazing, the sequel fights have nothing on them tbh the less we talk about those movies the better. Can't wait for the rest, they're really good.
Don't you just love how TH-cam does that. Thanks for watching, KZ.

Woot, was excited for this, hope you react tonthe others too, they're all great.
Now I've seen this, I've got too! Thank you for watching, KZ.
@kaizammit I guess it's worth mentioning that there is an order to these trailers. So you should watch them in the following order if possible.
Return
Hope
Deceived
Sacrifice
Betrayal
Disorder
Looks like Hope is my next Star Wars video. Thank you for telling me fella. KZ
The Jedi build focus (and some of their best attacks take, say, 5 focus points, which takes a while to get)
The Sith build...
@@luketimewalker Yes! I did see that video, and it was very cool!
Mocap cameras are a good way of having that organic camera motion, since it is…
Beyond just the quality of the cinematic itself, it should be noted that as a GAME trailer it's highlighting all the playable classes, so no matter who you are if you think one character is the coolest you can do something similar in the game.
@@sithlordzach8418 none that we saw, they were stealthy or undercover
Malgus, the Sith Apprentice, was holding back during the fight until the point that his Master, Darth Vindican, was injured. He was planning on succeeding his Master.
My kind of villain! Love it! KZ
remember when starwars actually had their actors take swordsmanship lessons, and the choreographed fight scenes were well paced and practical with the actors putting in the work to learn the moves and timing? Makes me really miss the prequels XD
and this animation, damn, makes me want an Old Republic aniamterd show

These are great KAI, would love to see more of your opinions on cinematics! Im a 3D artist and its very fun and educational to hear your thoughts on these. Would love to suggest Star Wars - Hope cinematic and Mass effect cinematics as well.
Once ive covered the current franchise I'm doing, I will be returning to the Star Wars universe. I believe I've got another 5 to do! Gulp! That's a lot of work haha.
@@kaizammit Watched them and love them, always looking forward to more! :)
The Jedi Master was tired by the time Malgus reached him. He thought that he could defeat the Sith Apprentice via his telekinesis.
“Why weren’t the last 3 films like that?!”
That’s what we all said mate, that’s what we all said.
I feel your pain fella, I feel it. KZ
One of the best game cinematics ever all of the TOR ones are great
I look forward to covering the other 5/6. Fun times ahead.
"I wasn't expecting that!"
Yeah, well, neither was that Sith Lord, lol.
Before Disney, there was this. Love.
To me the the Sith apprentices rapid shift in power level was a sign he was deliberately underperforming to conceal the threat he posed to his master. Notice that Darth Maglus only unleashes his full power "AFTER" his master has been severely wounded; he saw that now was his moment.
I love this game I still come back to it, from time to time, when I need my MMO fix.
Don't hate me... I've never played it! 😬. KZ
"OH! I didn't see THAT coming!"
Yeah, neither did that Sith Master! lol
The trailer/ cinematics for this game are just AMAZING! (I've never played the actual game [yet], but I LOVE these trailers!)
just imagine a hole movie like that.... O.o
I think I would melt! KZ
