Saab JAS 39 Gripen Flight Demonstration - Trade Wednesday Farnborough Airshow 2016
The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (English: "griffin") is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. It is powered by the Volvo RM12, and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are modified for NATO interoperability standards and to undertake in-flight refueling.

Nice tight turns and high G maneuvers. Incredible high alpha as well.
The math shows it has good thrust to weight ratio = 1.4, similar to the single engine popular jet fighter. Enough to have unlimited vertical.
Love the delta wing config, along with dihedral canards. I think I'm gonna design a score-and-fold Jas-39 rc plane shortly.

Those high g's turns make it an outstanding enemy in a dogfight, it could be a dangerous situation try to have a close combat with it, because a good pilot could put it at anyone's six anytime, at the bullseyes of its cannon or IR homing missiles.
So agile! This plane just looks right and if it looks right, it usually is a good airplane. Amazing performance by the display pilot.
came here to see the Su 35 killer...( they said)... but (at least here) im not amazed at all...
It does look good, but it is a plane that is built unbalanced on purpose. By shifting the weight aft it becomes more maneuverable. So to the naked eye it looks good, but in reality it is not balanced.
@@wadopotato33 yeah, like su30 and most of the recent fighters. But they have fly by wire systems so it is not a big deal.

The fact that countries buys the trainwreck F-35 instead of this jet, makes you question the IQ level of certain defense ministers.

Canada should buy the Gripen E. It seems almost purpose built for our needs as an air force. Canada will never EVER be called upon the be a "first strike" force and stealth isn't the issue for us as it is for the U.S. The Gripen is a thoroughly modern fighter and is set to carry any nato weapon and integrate easily electronically within a battlefield. The fact that with Saab"s ties with bombardier (the Bombardier Global 6000 is their base for their reconnisance aircraft) we could actualy build them here is the final icing on the cake. The Gripen E for Canada!
Stealth also makes a platform more survivable and you owe it to pilots to choose the most survivable plane that you can. Stealth also makes fifth-generation planes excellent dogfighters because in the end it is still radar that other planes use to lock onto you and fire. That said, for a fourth generation plane the SAAB has a very low radar cross section. They maximized their fourth generation design for sure. The Gripen E is an excellent choice for Canada mainly because Canada doesn't want to spend any money on their military.

Should buy Russian SU 35, The Saab Although a good interceptor, handles well it is not a air superiority fighter the Su35 has hours of loiter time! Canada has a huge sky and the longer you can keep a jet up the better protection you have!

Everybody wants a Gripen. It's big hype now. I want to know if the Gripen can shoot down enemy aircraft in accutal encounter before I buy one. Air shows are just planes showing off.

impressive flyer. the f35 would never dogfight with it. the gripen would be knocked out of the sky and the pilot would never see the f35 and would never knew what hit him. f35 is not a dog fighter it will knock planes out of the sky from miles away.

@@j.m.jonsson8355 What good does a long range missile do you against a stealth plane, you nimrod? The Meteor has a range of over 100 km, but in reality under perfect conditions it is unlikely to see the F-35 until it is well within 40 km. The stealth of the F-35 makes the meteor practically useless. You only need to pack short range missiles against fifth-generation planes because that is the distance you are going to see them at.
@@seven0929 O.5 RCS is excellent for a fourth-generation plane, but the RCS of the F-35 is 0.001 Meters squared or 500 times smaller. More than a little advantage. The Gripen has an excellent EW suite that would further reduce the range, but so does the F-35.
Well u have a point but super E JAS have a great radar and it will not be taken down with an longe range robot,cause it have a great defense for that kind of threat!!

@@ianclarke7547 jf 17 is almost 1/3 price of Gripen maintenance cost is too low as compare to Gripen means Pakistan can have three JF 17 instead of 1 Gripen.
Poor performance compared to Eurofighter Typhoon and others. Notice that after the slow fly when the afterburner is ignited again, all the good fighter are able to climb vertically up, but not Gripen. In all the shows Gripen makes only a turn left at the same altitude without any climbing. This is due to the very poor thrust-to-weight ratio Gripen has, and therefore should not be bought by serious air forces, and this has been the case.

Ya buy the F35 and you will be asking who on earth ever recommended a fighter that has lost a half dozen in crashes over the last month and can only and they either fell of the end of aircraft carriers or their engine caught of fire trying to catch a Russian bomber. Never mind air show stunts for air braking like the Russian junk. Who cares if you use afterburners for air show demo's it's not important. Super cruise at Mach 1.2 is much more important and the F35 was only able to do that for 5 minutes while the Gripen E can do it for as long as required, like a real class 5 fighter. The F35 is also slow
with a top speed of 1199 mph. As I recall the Mach 2 Gripen @50,000 ft and 1450 mph @ lower altitudes. So Pekka would you rather have an F35 with an operating cost of $45000. per flight hour of a Gripen with far superior reliability (No Crashes) during at all, ever for the Gripen E and an operating expense load of $4700. per flight hour. Hmmm
