I met a man under the Parker Bridge when I was stuck there one time. Exploring the river I stumbled across the bridge and decided to plop down under it for a smoke. The man I met took some cigarettes and played me a cool song. Claimed a number of stories that seemed outlandish, said he had a political background. Very clean and well spoken for a bridge hobo. I left to grab some food and when I returned his camp was gone. Fireplace and all. Nothing was left, and weirdly enough, the chunk of cigarettes I gave him for a song were back in my cigarette pack. The moral of the story is the acid in Parker is wild and if you get stuck there and decide to buy some dont do it in the middle of the day in July.
Also, right in front of the Parker Dam School is a lot of vacant lots where houses use to be, drive ways and streets are still there, burros hang out there, too.
I was just at Emerald Cove for a night, hunting for the flowers, should have gone north to old Route 66 where you did your flower video. You are spot on about the beauty of the river and mountains there. I go there several times a year. I guess I should stop and read the signs, never knew about Crossroads. You are an informative cuss, nice traveling with you. Should meet up sometime. Your videos of the area are just the best for real information.
I cant believe that all the buildings and every trace of them have been torn down ... We used to stop at Schwanbecks when it was operating, back in '68 to '72...... I would travel out there, several years later, when I was stationed at 29 Palms. A lot of the town buildings were still intact. But just like every other place, that 70's and 80's people could steal "barnwood"... I think that Crossroad was a prime and easy target fot free materials... Or maybe the govt had it cleaned out? Either way, its sad to see it gone. They even gutted the store.. 😒🤔
Bet it's real cheap living right on the water there..ha ha. Beautiful yes!! That's like the park I live in here in Florida. sardine cans....corporate owned.. what do you expect. Quantity, not quality is the norm!!! Thank God only until May..then I'm out and headed west...lol yeah!!! Great video Russ :)
It would be nice to see a rundown of the reasonably priced camping along that stretch of the Colorado. My late wife never wanted to travel in an RV simply because of the crowded parking lot RV parks. I think you and some others have figured out how to not travel that way. Research is key.

Camping at River Lodge 60s and 70s!
Love it there! Actually moving to Burmuda Palms this May, from Newport Beach California, can't wait to make the River my forever home!

My daughter went to the 6th grade at Parker Dam School, it's just before the dam.

We lived at Big River RV Park at the time.
