@@BeatMower normally we harvest dry soybeans and we run auger full throttle and the beans are still in one piece. But you do have a point when it comes to over dry soybeans.
Definitely dump at full throttle, dry beans are more dense and won’t get shredded. Plus if you’re unloading on the go, you obviously don’t throttle down or you would plug the whole machine
Good luck. It's to the point in this country where you gotta be born into it. The working capital you need is so much you gotta ask for money every year just to operate. It's not easy and it's not just driving tractors that's what you do less of in farming. @@trappingwithgage I farm 200 acres total. Grain and hay. I lease out the grain and do all the hay until I get all my grain equipment. For those down beans, if your header has the function, stick that reel out away from the table and lower it to lift them before the cutter bar gets to them. Reel speed should be about 1.5x your ground speed. So at2mph, reel should be moving at 5. Definitely go on a slight angle cutting. Helps to not push rows over with the dividers on the ends.
Dude it's so awesome watching your journey, actually doing this instead of just dreaming about it, its honestly so inspiring, and for your first time doing it you are doing amazing, keep up the amazing work and thank you for documenting it for us, its really appreciated
I grew up on a family farm and we became one of the biggest farmers in our area until my step-dad died of a heart attack at the age of 45. We siblings and our Mother tried to keep it going but he died in 1978, the year that the economy went crazy with up to 18 % interest on loans going on in the early 1980's. We had bought more land and equipment but the banks wanted their money so we ended up selling out in 1986 with a very big loss. All that was left was 80 acres surrounding the farmstead which my brother still owns, excluding the farmstead. So I know what can happen economically to any farmer but to see your happy face in each video as a new start-up farmer, I fully support your enterprise and hope the best for you. My step-dad always told me that there was no better occupation than being a farmer and after living in the cities now for many years, he probably was right, at least for him.
Grant, I’ve been following you for along time pretty much from the beginning of your farmsim days. It brings great joy in watching you fulfill and live out your dream. Keep it up love the content both real life and farm sim
Spencer your farm is 10x more impressive than these other big farms. What you did starting a farm and already having over 100 acres is incredible compared to these other farmers who have had it handed down to them. And I would know considering I’m one of them. Just remember you are the exceptional one… not these big guys you keep talking about. Anybody can maintain but not everybody can build… but keep us put to date, really neat videos!
Grant you always slow your feeder house drive all the way down when your running a platform head. It says it in your manual. If you run it fast it'll break your sickle drive. So run it slow as it'll go man. Also never unload your grain tank at an idle it'll wear your auger and chain out and it'll continously start breaking your shear bolt. Those combines are designed to be unloaded on the go full throttle. Always unload full throttle for sure.. This is coming from many many years of running deere combines and also having a combine tech for john deere tell me these things. Also run your feeder house chain on the small sprocket.
Hi Grant. Happy harvest from South Africa. Want to check for grain loss on ground behind combine, I use the blower to clear leaves. I think your tractor key also fit the combine. Incase you forget key again. 😁
Hey Grant, just a few tips here. As long as your co op/elevator is not docking you there is not to much trash in the grain tank. Slowing the reel speed is the best think you can do to keep the beans from cracking. You can unload wide open it is built for it, it’s like dumping on the go. Whenever possible empty out your auger, it is a little hard without a grain cart. It’s not a race just finish on time and keep up the great work
Grant my dad has a lot of combine experience and he’s always taught me a kernel or two every square foot Is about perfect loving the videos keep up the great work!
If I can suggjest something for the lower parts and stuff, get some gravel and build it up some. We did it if 5 foot deep ditches on the side of the road to get into the field and it works nicely. Ever getting some topsoild and dumping it works if you compact it down. Happy farming Grant, stay safe and have fun!
For those down beans adjust your reel so that the fingers are tipped towards the combine and speed it up a little that will help lift the beans. Shelling is inevitable with dry beans having a wind system or air reel helps catch them. Me and my family have been farming for over 100 years and we are no longer a big wig lol but I farm around 800 acres a year with t 40 year old tractors and a 1996 9600 combine and a 630 hydraflex header that extra 5 feet really helps bit also isn't that bad to take on the road
Really nice Grant, thank you! So many firsts for you this day and the day before. It's fun to watch you figure out and navigate all the various details :) This is the climax of the season right now, what everything led up to 'til now! Looking forward to seeing even more of your progress and success. Thank you!
Air reel or air bar helps a lot with down or short beans and header loss you can even slow your reel way down and just about have the air push the beans into the head. We have the Crary one on are head probably will never go back to not having it.
FYI, Most Deere keys are the same. Tractor keys would fit combine. Tip, blow out the radiator everyday. Needs that air volume to keep engine blown off with engine fan. Dirty radiator is #1 reason I have seen for combine fires. Your are doing great. Your enthusiasm alone is addicting.
One idea for a future video is a post harvest financial video. Things such as what was your cost of production, what costs are fixed and what costs vary, what was your net income and such. I have been farming with a friend for 4 years and I want to get into farming but I have a full time job as a software developer. Seeing financials will help me make a decision if I should really get into it or just keep being part-time/full-time help
Great job. Looks like you're having fun combining. Beans don't look to bad. Corn is way much better to combine. Alot faster and hopper fills up faster. Don't be afraid to get the grain wagons alittle fuller. . Just go back and forth too level the Beans or corn out in wagons. Make sure you grease up the equipment too. Can't wait for next video.
Good job getting up the down beans . Heres a thought , you could get 3 cameras one on the back one on the hopper and the last on the end of the auger so you could see where you are .
Hey grant, I see your new to farming, and a tip for the auger, tie a string with something on the end about 2 feet long. Then attach that to your auger so you will sorta know where your dropping your grain!
Quick tip when you park the combine up for the night it’s recommended that you leave the head up off the ground so in case something happens to one of the front tires eg: goes flat or even pops you won’t do any damage to your bean or corn head, love the content keep it up
Grant if beans are leaning away from head in down beans push reel forward and and down and speed the reel speed faster and let your reel do the work, yes your gonna shatter some beans but you will pick up way more than you will lose. If your afraid you are running to many beans out the back of combine, get a hand full of beans with separrater off and throw the beans in on top of sieve they should have room to fall through and not go out the back. And yes raise reel when reversing feeder house
Full throttle unloading mainly because if you unload on the go you don’t idle down. It was made to handle unloading wide open. I also personally like corn more because you see all more grain and everything keeps moving but I like the look of a freshly cut bean field.
Grant, look in your book that came with the combine it will have a chart in it that will break down how many seeds per square foot equals one bushul per acre of loss depending on what crop your in and the width of your header, also don't worry to much about your neighbors yields very few farmers will be truthful about there yields, one will always try and outdo the other, concentrate on your yields and what you can do to improve them, 40 bushuls per acre is not a bad yield I would take that across the board every year and I've been at it for 30 years
It’s awesome to watch you start from nothing doing farm simulator to being a full blown farmer. Hopefully soon I’ll be pursuing the same dream of farming

When you dump the grain tank, it is wise to full throttle the machine. It will dump faster.

You are doing a great job sir keep learning
You need to speed up on the ground speed so the beans fall into your head faster. But you are going to have to adjust your fan speex

You can unload pretty much how you prefer, we usually dump at half throttle for beans because it causes the beans to crack less but full gets the job done faster. Corn can be at full no problem
yo you might wanna look at folding heads or some addon to the header to where wheels pop out and you can navigate the small paths better
