      10 years isnt that far away. It will fly by. If your thinking hes gonna have 9rxs and x9 size equipment or bigger by then either the world changed or he won the lottery. But never in my life have I seen a farm grow that fast. Ours started just before world war 2 and it's not even what you would call Huge nowadays. I hope he becomes successful and his farm grows. But 10 years if you farm irl... youd know that isnt long

      I wouldn’t say this is true we went from a 400 acre farm and we also do custom combing and the next year we had 2000 acres and this year we have 3000 in all. Granted we did get lucky and were able to rent the land. But when the chance comes you have to take it.

    • @redneckfarmingcorporation4116
      @redneckfarmingcorporation4116 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NitroZombies correct. But for how hes starting hes behind and the markets are random and equipment prices are unimaginable these days. The Millennial farmer has been farming for a while and on TH-cam his farm has grown but not immensely. His acres have remained almost the same and farm size slightly increased over 3-4 years.

    Hey grant as a 3rd gen western Australian farmer I just want to say good on ya for making the dream a reality! We need more people like you who want to live the dream of farming in the world! Hope you’re planting goes well
    As for trying to stay awake while doing fieldwork I find that either listening to the radio or putting a playlist on Spotify via Bluetooth speaker helps or at least I found that when I was listening to the pickle jar podcast whilst doing 400acres of tillage.
    God bless and I pray for good weather smooth running and good yields for the coming season!

    Things to get for next year will save you so much time. Second tractor to work ground. Fuel tank. Tools in truck to fix minor issues in field. Extra spare pars bearings, sprockets, chains or chain links and even row sensors, extra bolts and nuts different sizes and grades. This is money but will save hrs running back and forth

    And also zip tie the shear pins on the markers. The shear pin will break at some point and it is easier to have it on the planter and not have to go look for it.

    definitely one of the things that makes planting alot better and smoother is auto steer , some may say it defeats the purpose but it makes planting so much faster . It even works as far as 80's tractors.

    Just a recommendation from one farmer to another, when we run digger with out 9430 we don’t like to run it past 2100 rpms and tend to stick around 1950 in 11th

  • @RawbornJamaican
    @RawbornJamaican 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Grant, you need to get used carriage trailer that you can hook up to your truck to go get gas for the tractor. You can get some metal drums or a IBC tote tank until you can afford the real thing. You need to link Cole Cornstar to find out about his auto steer he uses on his tractor. It will help you a lot and make you more efficient. I am happy for you as farmer. Keep motivated and keep pushing.

    I'm a 15 year old 6th generation farmer, when I'm planting we have a 8245R with ILS. We use a 30ft air drill for soybeans and run around 13th 3/4 throttle... (Around 12-15mph) our corn planter is a 24 row, we plant around 8-10 mph with that.

Watching you start from the ground up is really helping me be more determined to get are farm back in action and make dreams come true. Young farmers are a dying breed.

  • @bootlegger3656

    Hay Grant just a thought . What about investing in a camper you could bring down to the farm's and you would have a place to stay at night . Drop the camper in one spot and bring the truck with tools , some spare stuff you might need in the back . You know even a office small trailer with a bathroom and shower would not be a bad idea . could actually build one on a old trailer . Anyways I am enjoying watching you guys and a bit envious of you . Living the dream .

    A tip from a fellow young farmer when your turning around on the headlands lift the digger (field cultivator) up out of the ground about an inch and then turn around so your not leaving tire tracks in the field, one other thing is go at an angle when your running your digger so the trash from the prior years crop doesnt bunch up like it does. Not knit picking just tryna help out a fellow young farmer. Good luck to you and god bless

  • @anthonybanda8192

    Good work ! Watch those markers close . That grass from the waterway can bunch up and can bend the arm even after the shear bolt has broken . Also I watched my grandfather drive close to our seed truck and he cut a 4 inch slice down the whole side of the truck . When he finally noticed what went on he moved the truck 6 feet he couldn't feel it in the tractor. With soybean stubble it works best to use a disk or vertical tillage tool to cut and mulch the trash because the cultivator just drags it around and leaves piles which makes the row units on the planter bounce and can cause seed depth and seed to soil contact issues. Great job keep on keeping on!

    I’m late to the channel grant, been watching your fs22 videos and it led me here. Super awesome to see the progression as I catch up on the videos. I’m a 3rd generation farmer but my dad got out of farming and sold all his land when I was really young. My brother and I started out renting 25 acres 10 years ago and slowly rented more every year and finally last year we bought our own 250 acres. Sure is tough getting started in the farming business. Can’t wait to see where your at in 10 years.

    Grant, your speed is right, 8 or 9th Gear 1980 RPM, 4.5 -5.2 mph for proper spacing, least amount of double,s and skips. plus if its rough they bounce more causing poor seed placement, gotta watch your units, (top of boxes) for a clue to the ride, then adjust your speed accordingly. you find the down pressure spring settings? time stamp754: your 2nd knuckle on you index finger is how deep your corn seed should be (never less than 2"), the first knuckle, soybeans. . Oh, if you look around the mounting area of the marker, there should be extra shear bolts bolted on somewhere there. Above all, Enjoy the time working together with the family and Have fun!

    Hey man, I run 7mph planting beans because the singulation is not at critical as it is in corn. But with corn John Deere designed the seed tube for 5mph. Meaning that at 5mph the kernel of corn is suppose to fall down the tube and never touch the sides of the tube and give you perfect singulation. Also, it’s pretty awesome to see someone who has always wanted to farm, but wasn’t raised on a farm start their own farm! Hard business to get into with all the high overhead costs! Good luck man👍🏼

    This morning we planted 400 acres of soybeans, custom farming for someone whose had bad luck with rainouts etc... They were planting corn, myself and one employee, with some help from my daughter were running 2 9RT580's with a 60-150 tuners (not deleted) pulling DB-90 ExactEmerge customized planters on 20" spacing. Not applying any chemicals, although my planters are capable of it, but the farm owner is going to go back and spray with his sprayer later. The farmer who hired us was doing all the seed tending.
    Average speed, I hit 11.4, the other unit 10.8. average MPH. Scary, because I don't know the fields, don't know if I'm going to hit a rock or a tile blow out, but it was perfectly prepared and I was scanning with bino's while the autosteer did its thing. I charged $15/acre and used my own fuel and one employee, but all we had to do is drive and make sure everything was set up and working correctly.

    I don't know if you have the equipment yet for mapping but if you do you can map the fields and water ways. That way when you cross a water way you can keep your planter down and it should stop planting and your row marker should stay down. But once you get everything on auto steer you won't need the row markers. God bless and stay safe.

    Hey man I’d highly recommend getting the guidance going on your tractor with the atu steering you have in there it’d be very simple. You can either get an itc extend for your current globe or find a starfire 3000. You’ll also need a sf1 activation on your screen. It will make learning the ropes a lot easier you’ll be more free to pay attention and take care of other things in the cab freeing your hands.

    at the end of this year you and spencer should come up with a 5 year plan for the farm. it be interesting if you both build a house or buy a farm with a house in the future.

    So cool and happy seeing you chase your dreams farming. My twin brother and I are first generation farmers as well so I know how it feels learning everything the hard way and trying to figure out everything on your own.

    One thing that I have observed from helping Farm for a season, is you want to have a toolbox with all the right hammers and wrenches and pins and bolts and nuts and assume that some thing is going to break every time you use it or get ready to. I don’t know why, but it seems like with agricultural equipment, some thing is always breaking. It shouldn’t, because it supposed to be designed to do the work that it is supposed to do without breaking, but for some reason that’s never seeming to be the case.

    Also, suggest buying a disk to run before cultivating to eliminate bunching up of trash! Wish you best of luck!!

    congrats on your first planting season. I think you'll find that farming is basically 10% operating machinery and 90% minor inconveniences, repairs and maintenance, paperwork, cussing, smashing your knuckles on everything, getting covered in every type of oil and chemical and grease you have, pondering life and drastic increase in the cost of farm operation, and then getting up the next day to do it again because despite all that there's something about it that makes you wanna do it.

    Great video! Very inspiring. I help my brother plant and harvest our family farm in Illinois that my great great grandfather settled in the 1800s. Seems like you are off to a great start! Keep up the good work.

    I’ve never planted myself, but back in the 90’s I rode with grandpa planting on his 3020 and 7000 4 row. We clipped along in 4th or 5th I think. It was an old synchro Deere.

    I’m running a jd 1790 planter. Tank feed. We run about 6 mph. But use to run the same planter your running 1780. Row box planter. Looks like your planter wheel drivin. Do your boundaries first about 3 passes. Gives you plenty of room to turn around. If u have any more questions just pm me

    That is awesome! I farm in Saskatchewan Canada. I usually run the seeder around 5-6 mph with a 60 foot John Deere air drill behind a case 535 Steiger. Love the videos
