    God, that ISA sounds fantastic. Such a brilliant preamp. And I love how underated it is. It's a Neve, but even cleaner and weighty, and costs so much less. Probably the very best of all these as an allround pre, and super cheap second hand, as no one likes Focusrite. My worst nightmare is Focusrite getting the same hype as AMS and pricing their products at the same level. These allow everyone to afford a world class pro preamp you'll find as a first choice preamp in the worlds largest studios, alongside vintage 1073's and the like. Good luck buying a V76 for the same price you'll get four ISA preamps. I'd say the ISA is probably Neve's greatest masterpiece. More so than the coveted original preamps. He took everything he had learned from them and perfected it into the ISA.

      You completely forgot the existence of the Portico II Channel. This is his last work and the culmination of his legacy. The unit punches really high in all fronts.

    Thank you so much! What a great comparison! Thank you for wav files! I couldn't even imagine that ISA is so great! And moreover I discovered D4 which is the most awesome from all of these!

    Thanks for making this! My takeaway: (1) The Dizengoff's noise floor is highest by far. Because of this, I simply wouldn't buy it. (2) The Daking had the most open top end, but it's certainly not harsh at all. (3) The Portico felt the most "real." Hard to quantify this. (4) The Chandler had the best focus of them all, so I'd pick that if I wanted a tight sound -- probably great for drums, articulate guitar, etcétera. (5) The AMS and ISA were surprisingly similar!! Of course, I would rather have the AMS because of what happens when you drive it hard, but for clean sounds both are similar in quality. I would love to hear another one of these shootouts on something like acoustic or drums, so we can compare on something with a wider frequency range! :)

    Very interesting. In the blind test I preferred 2,and 4. There was a more 3 dimensional darker tone to my ear that I preferred. The bla, Isa, daking an RND all sounded great but were brighter and thinner. The dizengof seemed to have combination of the neve and Chandler and the other brighter preamps. Great shoot out thank you for doing this.

    I listened on my iMac speakers and even though differences were very subtle there, I locked on to number 2 immediately with number 6 being a great alternative which sounded just a bit more present, but otherwise just as good. I didn't know I liked Neve so much.

    Is there something one can do that the others cannot? Or do they all do the same thing equally well just slightly differently?

      Hi Thom! Danke gerne geschehen! Ja der 1073 ist für mich immer wieder der Favorit. Der Dizengoff ist sehr schnell am zerren und wie der V72, dass Original, eher leise vom Level her. Schnelles Pegeln ist da wohl eher nicht so gefragt....wäre für mich im Studiobetrieb nicht tauglich, da ich für das Pegeln immer schnell voran kommen will.
      Danke für den Link zu deinem DI Vergleich, auch interessant!

      @thomwettstein 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Die Röhren Preamps haben das so an sich. da läuft ohne nachgeschaltetem Kompressor irgendwie nichts. Bei deiner Aufnahme vom Dizengoff hört man aber kein Zerren.

    • @lizissewingbox
      @lizissewingbox  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      naja.... Tube-Tech und UA haben das ohne "Zerren" hin bekommen.
      Der Dizengoff musste ich mit -20 Pad in diesem Video betreiben und dies ohne dass die Vocals übermässig laut waren. Dies ist aus meiner Sicht im Studio nicht wirklich brauchbar... Ich musste das File 16 dB aufblasen um auf ein vernünftiges Arbeitslevel zu kommen!

    • @thomwettstein
      @thomwettstein 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, das ist nicht so gut, wenn du ein 16dB Pad benutzen musst, damit er sauber klingt... ich bin jedenfalls froh, dass ich den 6176 habe, damit ich nach dem Röhrenpreamp noch einen Kompressor schalten kann. Somit muss ich ihn nicht so heiss anfahren und die Verzerrungen (auch harmonische) bleiben im Zaum. Beim API oder Neve muss ich das eigentlich nie.

    • @lizissewingbox
      @lizissewingbox  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ja, 16 dB in der DAW auf zu holen ist sehr mühsam, vorallem wärend dem Recording um das Signal hörbar zu machen!
      Anders gesagt, immer die Geräte testen, bevor man sie kauft :-) denn es muss nicht immer sein, dass sie zu einem passen, nur weil sie gute Kritiken haben!

    oh the world of audio comparisons and minor differences explained as huge differences.
    Obsessive, OCD engineers trying to find the holly grail sound.
    A great engineer on great kit can do a great job,
    A great engineer on great kit with good kit can do a good to great job.
    However, if the song sucks who gives #¢∞§¢
    If the songs great on shyte kit - who cares.
    And yes if the songs great the engineer great, the mix is great etc then truth some ocd, obsessive ¢$%$££ will say it sounds shyte anyway and you should have used preamp x, y or z.
    So, for the money, hyped preamp nonsense with minor differences and big price tags.
    Negative crtics always expected.
    Rock and effin Roll
