Just picked up $420 worth of singles since Christmas. I've learned you should always be buying and selling. Sell off stuff that makes sense and put it into better performing assets (cards/and or products) always pay attention to the market and act accordingly. Plus as your video illustrates.. if you just look at a 3 month chart or a one month chart you can always make something look worse than it really is.
The black swan event really warped many peoples perceptions on how fast prices should go up. I would argue the low prices for the first few SV sets is completely normal. Also the youtube algo incentivizes click bait and dramatic thumb nails. Especially on the new set singles tanking, of course they are tanking, they always do. And then they stabilize and slowly grow over time. I don't mind though, I like the low prices.
Ehhh I’m mixed here. Looking at numbers from a year ago is good for context, but also important to note direction of travel. And direction of travel recently is definitely downward
To have an accurate depiction of the overall market trend one would have to have a large enough sample size to capture the majority of the market and all the card niches within. The most accurate sample would be the entire market as a sample, though daunting that would be the best data sample. Poketubers definitely like to use sensational words and terminology. Such as the word "crash" when it could just be a slump in a segment of the market or a mild correction. Many ninches within the greater pokemon card market to consider or to have reflect in the data. But overall, I think there is a correction compared to the peak bubble two years ago. There are cards that maintained their value (generally speaking) and continue to climb (modestly). Some people consider the correction a crash, which is debatable. The modern market has its ebes and flows as more print runs become available, influencers pump & dump, demand slumping as buyers complete their collections, etc. Once the dust settles from hype, the real buyer/ collector desirability emerges and price in the market begins to be more accuratrly reflected. The dust doesnt finally settle on a card until its out of print entirely.
I’m a buyer here of graded slabs. I use Pokedata as a price reference. There seems to be a disconnect between what actual cards are listing and selling for on Ebay and data the site is pulling to calculate the suggested price. It seems price is being overly punished for one auction sale that went low. It’s one data point? One sale does not make a trend
Speaking to the Lugia alt art; Silver Tempest is an anomaly in my opinion due to the “god packs” we had a handful of months ago in those tins. While I do think it’s important to mention its decline it’s also impossible to predict an event like that happening
The Lugia is crashing because Pokémon messed up on that lunchbox product or whatever it's called where they put hits in all the silver tempest packs. CTR literally pulled 3 Lugia alt arts from those stacked lunch boxes.
I don't think it can crash with so many people like me who would buy those cards if the bottomed out to nothing and still collect them just for way cheaper, and I'm ok with opening all my sealed stuff if pokemon truly did die off and go to no value $
Personally, it looks like yeah prices are going down on most butttt to your point we arent on a roller coaster that has an inverted drop. Overall, if you look at the year mark (which should be the standard) then you can see how well it performs and you bring up a great point on this. If people wanna sell to get their gains then others will panic to sell too. Im cool getting cards at cheap though if people wanna sell lower.
People have such short term memories and what is it about the masses panicking so easily. If this market is so bleak why is my local Walmart always sold out of Pokémon? Honestly up until about the first week of December I was having consistent eBay sales of slabs. For the past few weeks it’s been super slow but that makes sense. This time of year collectors are spending their money on gifts for family and friends. A lot of people are over analyzing this time of year as a huge downturn in the hobby.
People seek negativity. If you look hard enough and focus on certain cards or time-frames you can always find something to be negative about. It's human nature I guess...
Need to find those in real time. It's easy after the fact. Go look at Intel stock. When I looked at it it was $19. Now it's $50. Would you buy it now at $50? Could go to $100 or back down. What do you do? Give you some info they passed the CHIPs act during the Trump administration. AMD is $147.
@@lerak8452 During a panic selling market it's a little bit easier. I usually set buy tiers and when it gets to a certain price I'll pick some up then if it drops more I'll buy more at a lower tier and so on all the way to the bottom. You don't always need to go full greed and try to get maximum profit trying to predict the bottom. Just play it smart and take advantage of these buyers markets where you can.
What’s crazy is while most cards or boxes have dropped, the through line from 2016 is still much higher than it was. Overall in a five year period everything went up lol

Almost all swsh and sv singles are getting crushed. With as much as they printed and as much as is sitting on shelves it’s going to take a long long time to see gains on most singles from those sets. Better to just invest in sealed and call it a day.
