But God is soo good I saw a chestnut tree at the park and snagged up as much chestnuts one could use for free! Here I am making a chestnut wreath at 6 in the morning just giggling. Thirty-six pounds of sweet potatoes from one plant! Wow!! 🤩 I can understand why planting and harvesting potatoes has been such a huge blessing to families for decades upon decades. During hard times, moms and dads were so grateful to have potatoes stored in their root cellars to carry them through times when there wasn’t much to eat. It’s exciting to harvest that much now, so imagine how much more exciting it would have been for farmers nearly a hundred years ago. This is a great video featuring family, fall, felines and fancy corn. Fabulous! 🤗 🍁😁

One of THE most important things we have all learned from you Laura is that good, amended soil can create a fabulous harvest with just ONE plant! It doesn’t require a large garden if a person wants to raise edibles (or any plant, really)! 😊

Completely off topic of the video, however as we head into fall, I had an idea for a series of videos you could do in the off season. Hartley Happy Hour with Laura. Formatted very similar to your highlights videos with basically an informal chat about gardening. Possibly with your mom or other knowledgeable growers in your area who specialize in areas you aren’t as knowledgeable on. Also you could do some podcast style with virtual chats to gardeners in other climates. Sorta see how things are different and what’s going on in their garden mid winter. Just a little idea, I think one of the best things about your channel is how you present the information and I think it would be amazing to see you chat one on one with other gardeners and sorta geek out. I’d watch! Lots of love from my garden to yours! ❤️

We have 4 garages/sheds. We try to keep them organized by uses (ie, gardening, sports/activities, vehicles, storage) but by the end of summer we have gardening stuff in all of them. We tend to "put away" wherever it's easiest to put the tool after a hard day of work. It is what it is :)

I love the single plant pots because it's how a lot of us garden. I don't have a family-owned garden center at my disposal or a contract with a producer like Proven Winners. When I lose a plant, it gives me an opportunity to refresh. I do not worry about losing a plant at all. Most people aren't as lucky as you are to have a huge property or access to all the plants. Please keep these kinds of projects coming. Folks like me love seeing our own situations in your garden. We love the failures, the dirty faces, the oopses, diy make-do with what you haves, and the mess of gardening and flower arranging etc...
Please don't read this as a criticism. I'm just encouraging imperfection!

That celosia is gorgeous. I think you'd just have to use Aaron's one-per-pot idea and just drop a handful of them in a tall glass vase. I know that's not your style Laura but for this flower I feel like it's the only way. Speaking of floral arranging, my hub brought home a thick dense bouquet this weekend and I thought it needed arranging. I pulled everything apart and started arranging it in a big round vase, Laura style, using pebbles from the garden to anchor everything. There's eucalyptus draping over the sides, tall mustard-colored filler in top and beautiful fall colors with sunflowers, mums and marigolds. It's so pretty and interesting! Thank you so much for the inspiration Laura!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching you dig the sweet potatoes! So satisfying to harvest so much from such a small amount of work planting them and seeing the joy on your face too! From the time I was a kid (65 years ago), we always tied small ears of different colored corn together to hang on our back door, sometimes the front door instead of a wreath; and anywhere else we could find to put it. It looks really nice in amongst the tied arrangements of corn stalks like you put on your mom’s porch. Since we have to buy ours, I put it in the freezer in a plastic bag to use next year too! You have some really beautiful colors!!

so cool to see the enthusiasm of Benjamin. I grew up around my dad who is 86 and still avidly gardening but the bug did not hit me until a couple of years ago. The really cool thing is to see my adult children already wanting to grow plants. My son lives on the 17th floor of a condo in downtown Denver but he has quite the array of indoor plants. So you are planting seeds for future generations of gardening love.

Your sweet potato results make me thing of an experiment. What if next year you do a garden bed experiment in the raised bed garden near your greenhouse. Since the beds mirror each other, you could plant the same vegetable in identical beds, but in one bed try and make the plant spacing smaller (more plants) and the other one plant fewer and more spaced out. At the end of each season, you could note yield from each bed vs. Size of veg from each bed. Did one bed have more weeds? Did one have more pests/disease?
I think it would be really informative to all of us for future years and a really cool experiment

I am confused. Every video I have watched says you can't get sweet potatoes from slips. I even grew them and nothing. So strange!

I loved the one plant per pot!!!! I liked that you could clearly see what each plant looked like and what it could do by itself & the big pops of individual color!

I laughed so hard at "a Russell", "a Cheddar" 🤣. And yes, evolvulus does thrive in warm areas. Mine has grown into a beast of a plant. I pruned, propagated and planted them into smaller containers, just for fun. They are indeed a great filler for landscapes, or hanging baskets with those delicate blooms. And those enormous sweet potatoes!!!! BTW, Benjamin has really grown into a nice, handsome gentleman. So happy for you, Laura.

The Glass Gem corn is dried on the cob with the husk pulled down and left on the end of the cob and sold as an ornamental corn. They are gorgeous and are reusable year after year for table decorations if stored in a cool dry place between seasons.🦃🦃🍁🍁🍂

Great harvest Laura. Thank you for sharing. I started my own sweet potato slips last January. I put 3 toothpicks in the potato and submerged it in a vase of water. Once the foliage started I cut them off and put them in a separate vase of water and I had loads of slips. Pretty easy. I hope you try it. God bless you

I live ground floor of an apt & am limited to container gardening only. I group pots together to cover "things" & to fill in around the landscape shrubs. The "one/pot" experiment was an "ah-ha moment" for me. Instead of planting Each pot with an arrangement & grouping them together....I need to plant 1-3 of same plant in each pot & THEN group the pots together. I think it will look more like in-ground gardening & more impactful. Watch you almost daily! Blessings to your family & for continued success.
