Your comment wins Comment of the Month for me. Give your daughter huge hugs and tell her to soak all that info up and she too can be a Garden Princess. Does she like gardening? Does she do any and if not you should get her a small space to grow something. It would adorable to know how she felt watching something she planted can grow into food. Sorry for blubbering on i just got so emotional reading your daughters response.

I started dehydrating my tomatoes a couple yrs ago in slices, and they are so delicious as snacks or perfect to crumble into soups and stews etc. Plus, one can do them batch at a time as they ripen and the whole harvest fits into a few big ziplock bags!

What a BRILLIANT harvest of your tomatoes! Italian family here and if it were me...I’d be canning all day tomorrow! I absolutely LOVE fresh, homegrown tomatoes! The flavour is out of this world!! I am crazy allergic to tomatoes, but have to have fresh homegrown ones! Tomato sandwiches are divine. Fresh sliced tomatoes...YUMMY! I could sing the praises of fresh homegrown tomatoes all day. What a wonderful sense of accomplishment you must feel with your first crops being so crazy prolific! What a relief you must feel about that new land and it’s ability to produce. Your always giving me new ideas for planting. You and Aaron are such an awesome inspiration. Your and his giving spirits are such a blessing to others. We are moving to Idaho, where we’ll have lots of land to provide for ourselves and others, I can hardly wait. We live in southeast Texas now and I’m already trying to learn as much as I can about growing crops and all other forms of plants in Northern Idaho. If you have any tips I’d love to hear them♥️
Thank you for all you do, all the amazing content and sharing your beautiful family with all of us. Your a breath of fresh air that we love to see every day you post. What a wonderful gift God and your parents have given us all! ♥️🙏🏻😘🥰🤗♥️

Thank for another informational, inspirational video, Laura! After "inheriting" my son and daughter-in-law's three tomato plants, I became a student of your tomato videos. We're in a different zone, climate and I had to grow in 17 gallon tubs, but still picked up the basics from you. The chose Roma, Big Mama and Damascus Steel. We had success with all three plants, but the Damascus Steels were our favorites! They were so tasty - pretty too!
Growing tomatoes was one of the best parts of my summer. I agree: nothing really beats growing your own food. Growing flowers and vegetables from seed feels to me like participating in a miracle!

As a new gardener it is so frustrating to see when things don't go as planned ... so it's so helpful to see where things don't work out with experts - to learn from mistakes made; that we can't control outcomes despite our best efforts; that there is always something to learn. When my daughter was little we grew carrots in pipes. I just buried the pipe in the ground and sowed normally. They were. huge. Benjamin would love it.

It truly is amazing to grow your own stuff. 😃 like you said with the watermelons, " I grew that"... Yes!
Why don't you can some of your tomatoes. You can have them for sauces and such. I grow romas just for canning.
Continue to donate but can some for your winter. Nothing like making spaghetti and opening your own jar of home grown tomatoes. ❤❤

I like carrots but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE tomatoes! I am so jelly of that beautiful load of tomatoes. My little grand daughter laughs at me because I eat the small tomatoes like grapes and the big ones like apples. Your produce makes me want to garden again. I think I will plant some tomato plant in my hanging baskets on my porch next year. Love this video.

I love this video. Harvesting is so rewarding and beautiful to watch. Needless to say, the videography is amazing...again! Your channel is like short stories. I so enjoy them every day. “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.” There are few consistent events that are a miracle every time but gardening. To take a hard like thing, put it in dirt, and be able to eat the harvest is one of the best miracle of nature. I remember my dad always said, “give a man a fish and he will have a good meal. Teach a man to fish and he will feed a community.” Wow. 👏🏻💕👏🏻

Good morning! Most mornings begin with coffee and "don't talk to me yet I'm watching Laura!" I wondered if you ever make loads of spaghetti sauce or stewed tomatoes for canning with a haul that huge? How amazing would those taste with such ripe, gorgeous tomatoes to start with?

I have 7 red currents that where given to me, and I then rooted about 7 more suckers. And I adore them, I don’t do floral arrangements because of allergies, don’t want to bring them in the house. I’m huge loving the explosion of tomato flavor in those tiny little tomatoes! They are crazy thick growers though, and very prone to moisture issues!

Is it possible that those darling kitties are causing the compaction problem in the carrot bed? Maybe it's a favorite spot for them to lounge in to sun themselves.

      I think you're onto something.
Absolutely no reason for only one corner of the bed to become compacted, unless it's kitty activity.
And we know Russell loves a good lounge in a garden bed.

I harvested my potatoes last week and was amazed at how many potatoes we ended up with. During lockdown I planted a few old ones in our raised bed and wasn't expecting anything spectacular to happen. I was so excited when I harvested them we got a sack full, around 1.5 Kg🤗👍

If you add to the height of the raised beds for carrots, it will have more loamy soil to grow in. When I had raised beds, the higher beds, about 3 feet or so, were used for root vegetables. The carrots grew nicely, long and slender. 🥕 The Garden Answer wooden crate is cute.

  • @jacquiland6467

One thing you could try with your raised bed you grow the carrots in, is, to add a good wheelbarrow full of sand. It may sound strange, but where we used to live on the West Coast of New Zealand, there was alot of black sand. The gardeners whose gardens had alot of sand mixed in their soil, could grow the most amazing carrots, because the sand allowed the carrots to develop a good straight root. The sandy soil also held the heat very well. Kumara or Sweet potato as you call it, also enjoyed the more loose sandy soil. Potatoes and watermelons also grew in abundance. 😊

Hey Laura first time commenting. I recommend you blend the carrots to make juice. Just add lime or lemon juice and a pinch of sugar. It's very refreshing and healthy. Or another type add condensed milk, vanilla, nutmeg - that's what I grew up on. Love from Jamaica. Keep up the great work.
