It is theorized/all but confirmed, that Agatha was born with an absorption power similar to Rogue's (X-Men). If Agatha is blasted with magic, she automatically absorbs it, and this would energize her, similar to Rogue absorbing lifeforce through touch. Eventually/or probably quite quickly, this became addictive, so while she can't control it it is enjoyable for her while it's happening, like a drug addict. Which is why after she took Alice's power she looked shocked, or as if she came out of a trance, as opposed to during it, when she looked like she meant to do it.
