That really is a nice old radio Buzz. You got off to a shaky start but you got it working already now its just fix up and clean up to get it working well. Great video.
Nice resurrection, Buzz! I used to have a Sparton 1068, but the dial glass was already broken when I got it. Nice radio! It’s a beautiful dial, and you were smart to take it out. Just don’t let Dickel get ahold of it!
Oh now that one is going to be a beauty. Eager to see how that band switch/push button thing works. Never have seen anything like that one before. Good job Buzz another good project.
A gorgeous dial. At first I was thinking this series maybe as long as John from Arkansas's thunderbird series. Which would be great since its a radio :-). Sitting on the edge of my seat for the followup episodes.
I have that exact radio and likewise found it on craigslist and it's a great performer. Whats unique about that radio is that uses an afc circuit (the lower left control is the afc on/off switch) and one of the cans on top of the chassis is the afc alignment coil. Try not to adjust it as the alignment is touchy. Have fun and enjoy!
Buzz. Well...I've certainly been entertained. Great job, turkey-bird. I have a place in my heart for Sparton radios as one of my first restorations was a Sparton. They're solid and good sounding units. Drive on! Regards, John
This is gonna be a lovely series to follow Buzz. That band switch will need some closer scrutiny. It is in good hands and that's what counts. I expect nothing but a positive outcome on this. The speaker sounds like it has good response. I suggest you protect it before moving any further. LOL. Oh, and welcome to the world of radio restore Isabella.
@@Buzz1151 It's so neat that such a young person is interested in these old gems. At least we know of one more preservationist from the next generation.
Thanks Buzz. I like seeing the heavy equipment substituting knobs. We had an old tractor on the farm that had a pair of vise grips instead of a steering wheel.
Fabulous. I always loved the cobalt blue trim and glass work of the Spartans. Sounds great too, when a radio sounded like a radio concert hall in those old uprights. Looking forward to Part 2.
That ending was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. We needed that. Thank you Buzz! Good luck with this resto... and most importantly, have fun :)
Wow, great radio (love the dial) and video presentation as always, thanks Buzz. I'm really pulling' for that pristine speaker to make it back into the restored cabinet intact
That looks like a real nice radio, looking forward to the restore. I would hit that band switch with DEOXIT before taking it all apart. Enjoy your videos!
Cool project Buzz - can't wait to see the rest of the series. Keep your fingers and screwdrivers away from that virgin speaker. I have seen what you have done to them in the past. Also, better put that dial face in another room away from you and yours tools for the time being. Regards, Bill.
Nice start to what I expect to be a grand restoration. Don't forget to paint the transformer black and red, and all the IF cans gold! I thought Dickle's rendition of the Godzilla song was spot on, and something sorely needed in the films (sarcasm - sorry Dickle). I wonder if TH-cam content ID will try and claim it! BTW, Why does Dickle live in such nice digs? If he can afford those splendid rooms, surely he can spring for his own bottle of cheap whiskey! Thanks for the video!
@@Buzz1151 I think the main problem with Dickle's otherwise stellar performance (perfect for America's Got Talent) was that he did not sing the song in the traditional Japanese. Now, in MOTHRA, the two little "doll women" (whom Mothra carried from place to place, and didn't charge extra for carry-on luggage - a courtesy sadly lacking in modern airlines) did sing their "Mothra Song" in the tradition Japanese (not sure which dialect). As I recall from the film, they wound up getting a pretty lucrative night club gig singing that song, and it became an instant hit among 10-year olds in 1962. Until Mothra accidentally destroyed Toyko, clumsy giant moth that she was! It was a simpler time, right? Keep on trying Dickle, your fan club supports you -- all 3 of us! Please note: this entire comment is SARCASM!
Holy Horseshoes! Your assumption of the Sparton name reminds me of Nabisco which is short for National Biscuit Company. :) That radio certainly looks heavy duty alright!
Another great video Buzz, and I thank you. This one looks to be a really nice set and should sound great if the speaker cone stays intact. That band switch should be fun. Any way take care and good luck with it.
That radio sold new for $125 in 1937 Buzz. When adjusted for inflation that's over $2200 in today's dollarettes. That's why all the iron is still good over 80 years later. Top quality components of the day. Gonna be a beauty when she's done. Stay well. ATB Doug.
Would have been an expensive radio to buy in the day maybe a years wages ,and it been looked after well and plenty of room underneath for servicing .And my wee friend Dickel ,well i like whiskey too .Good one again Buzz look forward to next one.

Everything I have seen of Sparton (Sparks-Withington) was built to extremely high standards. They actually built more sirens than anything else (thank the war for that) and they even built refrigerators with their own horizontal semi-hermetic compressor design.
Imagine that. You got an 83 year old radio to work without much fuss. I hope I can get up when I'm that age without much fuss!🙏🏻😆👍🏻 Maybe some dirt in that band switch which you could spray some WD40 in it to get her moving again. Really needs a bath. It sure is dirty.
Hi Buzz, I'm so glad you got this Sparton. You're so lucky to have found the dial glass in perfect condition. I have no idea where you'd find another, unless it was from a scrapped radio.
