- Over the past 3 years I built our lakeside off grid cabin in the beautiful woods of northern Michigan. Here is the complete build condensed into less than 45 minutes. Check out all the episodes in my playlist. Looking forward to many new and exciting projects this spring and summer! Stay Tuned!
Woops!!! Realized in the video I said I started in the fall of 2022....I meant 2021! Time flies. :-)

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the build. The music?? Excellent!! Turned us on to some new artists
Beautiful build! Congratulations.
Excellent videography and editing. Quality time lapse, no jerky movements and droning commentary.
The music was relaxing
Absolutely love your cabin and what a view congrats. Julie 🇦🇺 😊.
It was easy for me to forget how much time and effort went into this project but was quickly reminded with this video. Congratulations on the completion of such a great build. You took great care into making sure that this structure will last for many decades and Lord willing, it does. May you, your family and friends have many wonderful memories made while at the lake. God bless and be safe on your journeys.
Can you share a bit more about the screw in footings? I’ve been wondering about this for this application for a while. Thanks!
Home Depot company called Pylex...They offer a variety of sizes and applications. I used them to make a solar panel support structure. With these you dont have to dig holes and mix concrete for the posts. Once you get them lined up properly they are sturdy enough. I am now looking at putting in a 4 by 4 post fence and stringing wire mesh and chicken wire.
I soooo enjoyed this time lapse! I realize it was alot of work, and time lapse makes it seem like it was so easy....thanks for sharing! Looking forward for the new projects coming up!
Michigan, MY Michigan!!!! I might not live in Western Michigan like I did for my life, but Michigan will always be HOME in my heart ❤!! What you did with this build is super special, and living with such a beautiful lake view makes it a keeper. TFS ❤
This is a very inspiring and informational video, along with your others. Congratulations to you on a great build and property. - Edwardsburg, MI
Thank you kindly!
I would add a nice throw rug in front of the sofa and some nice soft blankets on the sofa to bundle up in. On the approach, I would lay some nice large flagstones and fill in around them with decomposed granite. I might also add some simple lights on the stairs inside and out for night visibility. You can install those stick-on LED light strips that are super low voltage for lighting the kitchen area at night or for that matter anywhere else. I prefer to trim out my window casings in cedar that is smooth sanded. It stains awsome and smells amazing. It also lasts a very long time. I have built many tables in this and they just last and last.
So so glad that you are back. Can't wait to see what projects you will be tackling in the spring. Thanks for putting your talent out there for all of us to see. Stay safe.
The results and your persistent efforts are amazing, I really admire your talent 😍
You do quality work! Keep us updated with your future projects!
1人で全部仕上げるなんて凄いですね!!
んだ^_^🎉
Great to have you back cant wait for whats next x
That was a a ling time ago glad you can enjoy it now great video
Good for you! What a wonderful thing to have created for your family. Congratulations. It will be a meeting place and source of fond stories and memories for generations. In Scandinavia they see their Hytte (huts/cabins) as the true family home. Urban dwellings may come and go, but the cabin remains at the heart of family gatherings.
Ahhh! This is so awesome! I'd love to have a place like this. I'd love to retire here and never leave.
Read revelation 12.....to the end....
Need a bathroom
Great video and a great looking cabin. Excellent job. That looks like a lot of work.
❤Thank you for sharing the process of handcrafting this beautiful wooden house❤
Nice one! You did what I'm dreaming about 🤩 someday I will fallow your lead!! Thx 😀
You did a great job on this off grid cabin but I would not have covered up beautiful wood underneath the loft and the ceiling with that white tin. That wood is so beautiful like it is. But otherwise you did a great job.😊
Guess he worried someone would throw their drink upto the ceiling so wanted a wipe off surface.
Supper cool build and what a great location. Many good times and memories will be built at this cabin!!!
Very very nice job from start to finish also beautiful view 👍🏾
I think we got all the rocks on the Ontario side. be had screwing them in the ground. as the crow fly's were at the same elevation.
What a beautiful cabin in a lovely location! Enjoy the results of your hard work!
Great project and great work, at a gorgeous location. I'm worried about settling over time with those screw-in footer system, but I hope I'm wrong - please keep us updated on how they perform for you.
It turned out beautiful!
That is an outstanding video. Beautiful build and superb music. I loved it. ❤
Great video! I’ve been watching since the start. Impeccable craftsmanship and engineering in an space on an amazing place on the planet:) wish I could visit
I absolutely love your cabin
Beautiful congratulations!
Beautiful.
Que gran trabajo , demasiado esfuerzo y dedicación en cada detalles, lo mejor , toda la pasión que puso en cada día que dedico a la construcción, muchas gracias por compartir y muchas bendiciones
Great job men😊
Thanks for sharing.
looks great
Nice job!
GOOD JOB .
Nice cabin😁
I like it !I enjoy watching your video!!
What are those twist in footings? Very cool work
I need these!!
Essa casa ficou muito linda ❤❤❤❤
Love the cabin and the property !! I would like to have a woodstove though😊
Great video
he is the flash❤
Excellent build. Lot of time and effort. Just a quick questin. Have you had any issues with the screw in anchor supports. Never seen them use in a cabin build before.
Awesome video
🔨🪚🪓good job👍🏼
Love it ❤ 😊
Great cabin, great music, great video
Curious how those pin footings will hold tho. Great build!
Just came across the channel. Cheers from case township. 🍺
I like it.
아주 아주 좋아유~~~~~~~~
When you were zip taping the gable window in the front of the cabin you taped the top, then the sides...which is backwards as the seam no longer tucks under the top...no worries tho as zip tape is so sticky it will have sealed just fine
Great build! Thanks for sharing. What is the overall size of your cabin?
Ottimo Bravo tutti.
I have followed you since this projects inception. I remember the lopsided camera issue from the episode where you put in the beams and foundation lol. I wonder if you have seen any movement in those screw in pillars you opted for as your base for foundation?
Thanks for the vid. How did you like the Helical Pylons? I've been looking at them for a while and they seem almost too good to be true. I don't have to worry about rocks, so they're are basically perfect for what I would need. Cheers from FL, USA!
what sort of post/ties where those? seems to be very handy for the slope youre on
Why you put steel panels above inside, instead of wood like on walls?
I'm from Michigan. My life in the Navy took me away. I lived in Oscoda, on lake Huron. What is the general area you're in? I love Michigan, it's so beautiful
Nice work. Have to keep a certain size for UP CODE? or no?
Also here to ask about the screw in anchors. How are they serving you?
Felicitaciones ingeniero de lujo hermosa 👍💋🎂👑🤣🤣🤭💝💖🤭👓🌹🛸🛸🛸♥️💚🏆🎂
MANY WILL COME AND VISIT YOU FROM THE LAKE .....
❤❤❤❤❤
What was the foundation of the house. Was it a pointed metal? How can you be sure that it will not get deeper with tje weight of the house and occupants?
Those things your twisting are footings?
👍🏻
What type of foundation is that, can someone explain? And where to buy?
very nice ! what are the dimensions of your cabin ?
Great review. I forgot about how much work you put into this.
I loved the cabin especially the stairway
❤❤❤
I have concerns about those screwed in footings and the fact you didn't put any blocking between your 16 on center or was it less?
Just sayin!
What are the dimensions of the house?
Did you need permits for this size of cabin?
Fantastic workmanship! The cabin looks amazing!
Beautiful build, but what are the floor dimensions?
Looked like 12 x 16
Thanks for adding the music references. I loved the songs.
It’s a lovely cabin but no bathroom?
Off grid usually means no running water in the house.
Apparently it is not off grid as stated in the title since he installing electricity. Could be solar panels.
Красота, но то ли морозного пучения нет у них, то ли забыли предусмотреть это при обшивке цоколя…
Northern Michigan certainly has frost and freeze. I lived in Southern Michigan and it would get to -17 degrees.
Great Job !!! Loved the music. Never heard it before. Very calming . Good luck on your site.
Please enclose the structural plan
A Few Questions for you here. Perhaps , this came up during the planning and construction and finishing phases as well? LOFT ?? Size ? Depth ? With ? Access ? Total Area ? The Inside / Outside wall Dimensions ? Was part of a KIT ( Knock Off ) or one you simply put together based on What ??? Under Cabin ( Storage ) Useable Space ?? Seems a Foot or more possibly Off the Ground would have Suited you quite well here ??
The Front Porch or Really Lack there of ( TRUE Space ) To Sit out and relax on ? What about wrapping the deck along the lower side and back as a future plan ? WHY am I Bringing all this u to you now ? Have watched the entire series as it was unfolding. Sure did NOT seem ( COST ) was the only factor Driving the choices. Example: Construction is about ( DOING ) what YOU can - When YOU Can ) Beating the weather at every twist and turn. DRIED in is Far more important then Finishing off the Odds and ends which can be done winter , spring, summer, and fall as well. Are YOU planning on Adding on to this not to far into the Future perhaps ? Seems the lot size would be PRIME to do this or add another one or two possibly three Similar sized buildings as a whole still ? Back at Camp ( RUSTIC ) was the name of the game. Rough Sawn Lumber. A window or two ( THREE ) If the budget allowed through time still. Writing it Down here for you to Ponder. Cabins in the woods, on a lake or some Combination there of has many possibilities. My Buddy did like a Three season deal . Then one after that along with a couple of sheds to store tools and supplies out of prying eyes. By the time the fourth building was done. Adding on to the first and making that the main hub all on a less is more total budget of NEW, used, Recycled type items. Get - A - Ways , Vacations Days, Long Weekends, Holidays and just DAY TRIPS are many of the options to enjoy these suggestions. NEVER EVER FORGET what it is that got this Idea Started. For some a Place better then a tent. Where each can sit out and relax now and again. Is it what you had hoped ??? In My eyes So much more could still be done without just calling it quits with ONE building and smaller shed on this property as a whole. Consider this the VOCIE of Reason. The Exact one being ignored mare then explored by any and all who care to dare and see what else is out there. YOUR welcome in advance. Have a Better day... Its One in the same ????
I don't trust those anchor foundation
The staircase would have looked so much better if the back of the steps were blocked in and the green work units definitely dont suit the cabin - shame as the rest of the build was awesome ☹☹
Dont use background musics
Great soundtrack
where’s the grey water going? where’s the fresh water coming from? where’s the bathroom/toilet?
and that massive void above the entrance is such a waste of space!
Where is the bathroom?
🙄
Why are those first floor windows so BIG!?
Lake view
No wood stove? How do you heat it? I never understood why people choose not to have an indoor bathroom. I grew up in a tiny cabin in Oscoda, Michigan. We had indoor plumbing/bathroom. It was the size of a closet but it was inside with running water
nice prefab
Can't watch! too fast! it made me dizzy!😮😮😮
The music sucks. But muted,it was an interesting build.
I love watching videos like this but the music puts me off, I enjoy sounds of nature and even hammering
I was loving the entire build until you put that awful metal sheeting on the ceiling in the loft and the ceiling on the first floor. After all of that beautiful work you put that up? Why?
Let the man cook his own meal dude
Build your own place so i can hurl insults at you
Because that’s what he wants?
@@asthecitysleepsofficial he asked for comments, so I gave him my two cents.
Your cents were unpleasant @JMontana-zr6iz
We are disappointed it is all sped up… we wanted to learn from you but your moving too fast & your not talking & telling us how you did things!! Guess we will learn from someone else!! Enjoy your place! Looks like a nice spot!
go watch the playlist......many episodes
Slow down the play back speed in your settings....makes the music sound a little strange though..
Bye bye Donna!
