I enjoyed this, after watching all of the original videos you did a great mob editing it all together. Having been building on my own on my property ( I am about 20 miles as the crow flies on the Canadian side, about a 1000 meters higher), it is nice to watch other people do the same kind of thing and see what tricks they come up with that gives the illusion of extra hands. We are currently doing a second home on our property and due to some health issues I am having to hire out a lot of the heavy work. It is not easy to do, letting someone else work on the property after having done most of it myself for over 30 years. I will do most of the finish work, using materials I have been gathering for the last thirty years. I have been milling fir and ponderosa pine and using it where the law allows. We are not allowed to use Ponderosa pine for structural purposes here so I use for finish work like you did. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to seeing what is coming next.
I think you are a very accomplished builder, heads off to you. Especially concidering you did it all yourself inculding cutting your own wood. Most people that leave spitefull comments never touched a tool themselves so don't worry about it. Really enjoyed it brought back so,many memories of my build. We are preparing to start another on. 35 years later! This time we plan to use hardware cloth on entire foundation and attic as rodent protection. We spend a great deal of time cleaning out mouse poop from everywhere. They chew into our cabin and gain entry. We have tried everything to stop, suppress them and we admit defeat . Prevention is our new thing. Now we must keep every item that can be chewed in hardware cloth lined boxes and this is working but what a pain! The smells have become overwhelming so we lost our joy of going to the cabin. Question for you, with the hopes you might consider an episode on this topic: you've mentioned a number of times that you occasionally purchase materials through auction, or other creative options. Can you make suggestions on how to find these alternative ways to source materials? I love the idea of repurposing lumber, like you did from the old cabin, both to reduce waste, and for the aesthetics....
Another topic we know very little about is purchasing undeveloped land. We've purchased houses, but recognize that undeveloped land is a very different beast.
We so appreciate your humor, approach to projects, and your tenacity. Happy New Year to you and yours!
What an honor to be a part of your week. 🙏
I’ve had thoughts of the land video, and hope to in 2025. Good idea with the others. Glad you’re here!

Hey thank you so much!🙏
Lots of great ideas for the solo builder. I'd probably ventilate though. You won't be the only one using it during the course of its life.
