The second movement is really beautiful. The dialogue between the piano and the wind instruments is excellent. I think it is one of the most beautiful pieces in this world.

He owns a large repertoire of performances. He is a rare genius pianist in the world of performance.
HOW did I miss this angelic performance until now? I'd have paid a full-price ticket just to hear the second movement and gone home happy. I note that Mr. Cho's win at the Chopin Competition some years earlier was the first for a South Korean. Dare I suggest that the Asian shores of the Pacific are becoming the world's new cradle of musical genius? And if so, aren't we lucky to live in a world of such blessings?

Always my favorite
This pianist is simply extraordinary, he understood everything about Ravel's soul. Really love what he does! The orchestra is also very good, the solo instruments discuss admirably with the piano (adagio assai). The recording is well done, and the conductor balances the orchestra well with the soloist. Great release!

The comments about 1930s and Paris are so spot on. Currently reading a book set in 1930s Paris and it fit so perfectly. Nice! And Cho is doing amazing as always. Just magical.

0:45 seongjincho has use this technique in other descending patterns (like in Debussy dr Gradus ad parnassum) where the first half of the descent is played as a decrescendo and then the other half of the descent is played louder. Gives a feeling of depth. I love it.

레코딩 버전인가? 완벽에 가까운.. 피아노가 더 또렷하게 들리는듯. 연주자들의 혼신을 다하는 모습과 호흡, 손동작이 보여서 더 음악 속으로 끌어들이는 듯
Cho is simply astounding. How does he create such breathtaking music? The seamless harmony with the orchestra is remarkable. The poignant beauty of the second movement is utterly captivating, while the third movement is simply exhilarating. Seong-Jin Cho is unmatched in his performance of Ravel.

Second movement is my favorite. Almost an Oboe concerto... Seong-Jin is a fantastic talent, I thought long time I wouldn't see a better young talented pianist, but YUNCHAN proved me I was wrong !
Seong-Jin Cho says it is physically too strenuous for him to practice more than 4 hours a day although he thinks about music almost all day long. He practiced even less when he was a teenager. Yunchan Lim says he practices the piano all day long. Two different types of perfectionists when it comes to music. Regardless, I don't think we have seen enough of Lim's performances yet to compare him to any of the greats, let alone Cho, probably the most talented of our time. Seong-Jin Cho was 15 years old when he won First Prize at Japan's prestigious Hamamatsu International competition; the second-place winner was 27 years old.

개인적으로 이 곡은 1악장은 번스타인 2악장은 미켈란젤리 3악장은 아르헤리치가 베스트라고 생각합니다 항상 드는 생각이지만 성진초는 뭔가 폭발하는 에너지가 안나오는것 같아요 힘이 딸려서 라기 보다는 음악의 전체적인 흐름이나 밸런스를 중요시하기 때문이라고 여겨져요 저는 이제 슈만 피협 존버 갑니다 좋은 연주 잘 들었어요
정말 맞는 말씀 긴 곡은 잘 안어울릴 것 같은데.... 그런데 초핑 곡도 잘 안 어울릴 것 같네요. 쯧 그래도 관객들이 돈 아깝다는 생각은 안 할 것같다는... 다음에 다시 오지않겠지만... 피아노를 바꿔 보는 것도 좋을 듯 저 놈의 Steinway & Sons는 사람들을 졸리게 하는 독특한 매력이 있는 듯 Yamaha로 갈아 타시는 것 강추!
어느정도는 동의합니다 그래서 한편으로는 소콜로프나 아르헤리치 같은 연주자들의 야성적인 매력이 끌릴때도 있죠
Ashkenazy 도 좋고 젊은 연주자들 중에서는 쉬시킨 트리포노프의 연주도 좋죠 조성진을 포함해 모두 각자의 매력이 있답니당
들을수록 님 말씀이 공감되는 부분이 있어요. 조성진은 다른 거장들에 비해 소위 지 쪼대로 치는 부분이 아쉬울 때가 종종 있습니다.
젊어서 그런건지 귀가 지나치게 좋은 조성진의 성향인건지 모르겠는데 또 그게 듣다보면 오케에 완전히 묻어있는 맛이 있는것 같을 때도 있고, 어느날은 막 치고나가는 고집이 아쉬울때도 있고 그래요.
근데 또 저도 미켈란젤리나 아르헤리치껀 가끔 듣는데, 또 그걸 듣다보면 묘하게 너무 쪼대로 쳐서 오케에 덜 묻는 느낌이 들때가 또 있고, 둘 다 장단점이 있는것 같아요.
피아니스트들도 보면 아주 어릴때는 지 멋대로 치다가 어느정도 성숙하면 겸손해져서 맛이 좀 심심해지다가, 거기서 더 경력이 쌓이고 나이가 먹으면 다시 자기 고집이 치고나가는 과정을 겪는 것 같기도 합니다.

Ghastly dissonance. Horrible music. I’ve never heard this before in my very long years of loving Piano Concertos. Try his other Piano Concerto, it is much better. It’s maybe No. 3.

Some pungent, abrupt, snarling dissonant moments ... that, for me, make the sublime, beautiful melancholy moments of the middle movement all the more moving...but just my feeling about it. As another said, I too daydream off to a café in France when I hear this...a Paris street in the outer movements...and a table by the water in Honfleur for the middle movement...

Unusual intonations, harsh consonances----the inesorabile invasione of Time and the New. These are the intonations of Basque songs, jazz and stylistic changes...
