The 2018 version is really strange. In my opinion the animals are animated with weird faces and I find it the white, weaker wolf pup to be a bit misplaced in the movie and his death is pretty random... I dunno, I didn't like it much compared to the other ones

Black Panther is not an actual animal. It's a color mutation to a Leopard or a Jaguar. Caused by melanin. And Black Leopards and Jaguars, still have rosettes. Since these animals are more dark brown than black.
The film chose to make the characters more stylized, as they did not have the same budget for CGI as bigger companies like Disney. Mowgli (the name of the movie) was actually in production first though, and was a little more true to the book
