Hi Sam. My friend, a neighbour brought me a rich delicious soup to eat. A big pot. Four times. During the first 4 hardest chemos. That was the best gift I could imagine. Will love her forever because of it.

wow there are a lot of cancer patients commenting on your videos , god bless you all , I like watching cancer patient stories because I want to know how someone would be when they have such scary disease and how positive they are , so I shouldn't be depressed over naive things

I loved getting a million blankets and coloring books during my treatment. Also my 10ft phone charger was a life saver in the hospital

Head gear is really nice. When my hair was falling out, I didn't have anything for my head.

Soft beanies made of cotton, silk or bamboo are essential if you lose your hair. I even wear them at night. I needed at least three. Another great gift is a Buff. A Buff is a soft, stretchy cloth tube that hikers use as neck warmers or caps. They can be worn in different ways. Some even offer sun protection and they come in different colors. You can just keep one handy if someone is coming to the door. I like to sew, so I made a bunch and donated them to my Cancer center. The nice thing about the Buff is that the patient can look forward to getting well and going hiking. It’s not a thing that screams “I’ve got cancer”. The best gift is a weekly phone call or a short visit. I’ll never forget the friend who came with me to my first chemo session or my hairdresser who sat me down and shaved my head and hugged me offering to teach me how to do head wraps with scarves.

While we were waiting for test results to see if my breast cancer had metastasized, my cousin sent us a care package from Spoonful of Comfort. There was soup, rolls and cookies. It was SO delicious and helpful. Also, the boxes that they come in are decorated on the inside so you can turn them inside out and have pretty decorative boxes to use. We were all so very impressed and grateful to receive such a thoughtful gift.

When my husband went through his first set of chemo treatment 2 years ago. Friends gave us ready made meals, which saved us on chemo days. I didn't have to think what to feed us. Now that my husband is doing immunotherapy this round, I wish we had these meals again. Best gift ever is ready meals or meal preps. My husband has terminal cancer now & can only eat liquids. So finding stuff he can eat has been hard. A lot of ideas you suggested are good ideas.

Great idea. I liked the food delivery option more just because so many things made me nauseous and it would’ve made me feel bad if someone made me a certain meal and I didn’t want to eat it. I know lots of people love the ready made meal thing though!

Samantha Lynn it definitely was helpful! I just a specific question. You said you were very aversive to strong smells. Would essential oils had been a no go for you?

    • @SamanthaL

For me, yes. I literally was going around the house unplugging all the air freshener plug ins if that tells you anything haha

I didn't get any gifts because I didn't tell anyone; I went through holistic treatment, so I, thankfully, didn't experience what you or many cancer patients do. However, I have a friend going through chemo treatments and I may use a few of your ideas.

I still love my mastectomy pillow. You are supposed to use it in a car but I used it all the time at first.
