Haha, I do post production work so I already have a dedicated PC for video editing along with the softwares. Bought my own GoPro mainly because I travel a lot but the drone is the main issue. I backpack mostly so it's pretty inconvenient to bring a drone when I go travelling.
Thank you! Fantastic tutorial! I've just upgraded from iMovie so finally getting into colour grading and more advance editing so this was really helpful. Keep up the great work :)
Man, very good work. During the process its so gradual that its hard to tell how much its REALLY changing. Then you see the before and after of the finished product in the end and its significant. Looks awesome.
Usually when I use warp stabilizer, there are little distortions in the middle of the shot, but I also used the lens distortion removal preset in premiere. When you shot this, did you shoot it in super wide FOV?
I just rec'd the GoPro5 as a gift and used it in Bora Bora for the first time. Glad I came across this tutorial thank you. I didn't change any settings on the GP because I thought it was all set and now I see all these tutorials with great suggestions. My question is what settings do you begin with when creating your footage?
This was so great to watch and I keep rewinding it because of the sheer awesomeness of the thing. Truth is, I'm no editor and have no desire to be one. How do I politely ask/look for a director to do this very thing: taking my cell phone and GoPro footage and then turning it into this masterpiece. Thanks again buddy!
Your introduction is beautiful! How do you only have 8k subscribers with content of this quality? With content like this, I'm sure your channel will fly upwards. Good luck!
Wow 5 months from 8k to over a 100k! Well done TravelFeels you really merit this success. Also thank you so much, now looking at my footage of the last years it makes me shake my head so much but im gradually improving thanks to you.
Kinda misleading title tho, drone shots are pretty cinematic from the get-go. Making shots cinematic is way more related to the actual movement of the camera, correct use of ND/pola filters and shutter speed/angle and/or adding the correct amount of motion blur in post. This video is basically "how to color your footage like everyone else". If you want to save time and money, check videos that use Adobe Lumetri and not Red Giant.
I dunno how much you read comments Matti, but watching this in 2019 and see how far you’ve come in how you present yourself, your enthusiasm.... it literally gives me hope I’ll get better.... not the message in the video but it’s what I took from it.... 💪🏻
I wouldnt say its a waste of money. Colorista is still much better then Lumetri but Lumetri is getting better for sure. But yea totally depends on where your at in your film making career
In what way is Colorista better than Lumetri? Serious question. I've bought colorista way, way back and never used it, since the introduction of Lumetri Scopes. Maybe I'm missing something? Also, the plugin you're looking for in Premiere Pro is Lens Distortion.
Lens distortion crops, optics compensation doesnt. Lumetri is very close but its much harder on your computer so changes dont show up fast = slower grading. The algorithms behind it also arent as good for the color wheels which is what i like to color correct with. So if you moved the wheels in the same way on colorista and lumetri you would get a different effect. nothing wrong with lumetri tho!
Good points. But the difference between Lumetri and others is so minute that it doesn't really matter in the end results. There are custom GoPro distortion correctors built-in to Premiere as well, such as Extra Wide, even for the HERO5. Finally, if you have a good GPU it doesn't take long to render. The yellow line is still up there.
Its fascinating how relatable the video editing workflow is in comparison to audio editing and mixing. I can relate certain techniques (such as colour adjustment) to how I would colour sound to achieve a desired effect (e.g recording to tape). The fish-eye adjustment is relatable to resonant frequency attenuation (something not considered necessary but has a massive impact in A/B). I like how more saturation in video is as good as more saturation in audio (even though they represent different values). I guess creative media is similar in many aspects; working behind the scenes to achieve relatable/realistic results from sources many would consider perfect.
If you'd like to check it out, I just posted a Lightroom pack with 10 presets that are perfect for any GoPro footage! It would help a ton and I hope it helps, thanks!
Mr travel feels you are a legend. Is it stupid to ask you how you attach a go pro to a phantom??? does it interfere with the drone?? ( is there a work around ) is this answer in any of your videos as I've searched all day since you said 'GoPro on phantom 2' Are you syncing the go pro to a phone?? VERY GRATEFUL for a link or an answer as I'm ready to fly :)
lordy I have alot to learn about video editing. first of all my computer struggles to even run a simple basic program. what kind of computer and software specifically are you using here? thanks.
probably color: flat sharpness: low Ev Compensation: -1.5 depending on the sun iso limit 400 / 800/ 1600 depending on light conditions white balance: set it manually or possibly native or auto
Yo Matti thank you so much! I know everybody says this but whatever. You have inspired me to make a youtube channel filled with content just like yours. Everyday I try to work as hard as I possibly can on my weekly videos and it is fun. I love doing youtube and feel like I am meant to be doing this eventhough my channel is nothing right now. I make tutorials, vlogs and tech videos, but sometimes I feel like I am being disingenuous when I overly clickbait. Anyway I just want to say thank you for being such an inspiration. Thank you for letting me rant.
Amazing video. What settings did your have on your go pro when shooting with the go pro please? Is there a general rule when filming to determine which setting to use?
Will lens correction work with those crazy fish eye lens or once it's distorted that much it's impossible to return to normal? The reason I ask is because you could shoot fisheye and capture everything then fix in post how wide you want to go...... Bending light back might cause pixel degrading. I'm sure there is a cost to the image somehow
Great tips, style, and utility! Love it! There are so many tools to have in the toolbox when editing, and this is another great series to have at hand!
very clear and concise. i don't use either after effects or premiere, i do everything in final cut pro 6. got used to fcp and never had the courage nor effort to learn another tool hahaa. great transferable knowledge from this video so it's good info either way. thanks!
Great Video. I actually have the same drone setup. I love it but have trouble getting some of those high or far away shots, or ones with my back to the drone since i have to fly by sight. Do you have some way of seeing the video as you’re flying or just trust yourself flying by sight
Awesome tutorial Matti I love your work and you have inspired me to make my channel introduction but I cant find the perfect music for my intro but I saw the Intro at the start of your youtube videos and wondering if I can get the soundtrack, Thankyou Hazza Films
Thank you so much for all your videos. Why you don't use another focal with the gopro instead of using optics compensation? If you use linear mode for exemple? And why premier pro isn't good for optics compensation? Even with premier 2018?
Very helpful tutorial, but I do have a question, which is a bit unrelated to the topic of making GoPro footage look cinematic, at about 6:58 you were able to bring out a ruler and a guide-line on After Effects to correct the rotation of the clip. How the hell did you do that?
Great tutorial, but i have one question. Why do you use a png for the crop instead of the change the sequence settings to 1920 x 817 (2.35 for hd). I asked cause if i render my videos with black bars in it, it renders it with a very very darkish grey instead of pure black. i thinks its cause of the limited television rgb range. if render it with the "correct" pixel settings its pure black. Or is it another way to do it? Thanks in advance.
This is such a great tutorial. I really appreciate the picture in picture to see who is talking as apposed to disembodied voice coming from the interwebs. Haha. I must also compliment your lighting and clarity of your portrait shots while you are talking as well. What camera do you use and did you use any lighting with this shot? I assume so; if so, what kind of lights do you have? The lighting looks very soft and warm in color temperature.
Hi. Great Tutorial. Quick question: Is it ideal to switch linear POV mode in GoPro? Does it have a downside? Or should I shoot in standard mode and do the remove fish eye? Thanks for your tips
loved your video man thank you for your tutorial....I would like to ask you some questions.. I bought my Gopro hero 5 yesterday and I downloaded my premiere pro... how should I capture from my go pro , because when I insert my videos in premiere pro is lagging a lot , I have I MacBook Air what should I of to prevent lagging /.????
Nice video. But can you tell us what are the settings of the camera? Especially the Field of View and White Balance. I just bought a new Hero 5 and I want to know what are the best settings for a documentary, to be shown on theaters. Thanks a lot
Great tutorial! It really makes a difference when using those filters and adjustments. Quick question: why aren't you using dji mavic for drone shooting? And do you like go pro that much? It feels like there are new cameras that are outperforming gopro, like Sony. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, I haven't done many short films but planning to do more and this will really help me. Last time I tried Final Cut Pro but seeing you use a mac I'll definitely try After effects. Thanks man!
So.. Step 1. Have a drone
There you go. You got it!
Step 2... Go to Norway.
Step 3 Should have a fat bank balance to buy all these expensive gadgets (GoPro, Drone, iMac, Macbook, Editing Softwares)
Haha, I do post production work so I already have a dedicated PC for video editing along with the softwares. Bought my own GoPro mainly because I travel a lot but the drone is the main issue. I backpack mostly so it's pretty inconvenient to bring a drone when I go travelling.
DJI Mavic Pro!
This is not real this is not the matti that I watch every time he post it’s crazy to see five years of a difference super motivated right now
Thank you! Fantastic tutorial! I've just upgraded from iMovie so finally getting into colour grading and more advance editing so this was really helpful. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you! You got a nice channel yourself :)
Man, very good work. During the process its so gradual that its hard to tell how much its REALLY changing. Then you see the before and after of the finished product in the end and its significant. Looks awesome.

wow, such a different Matti back 5 years ago 🙂 great tutorial 🙌🏽
Loving these tutorials. Thx so much for all the work you're putting in.
Thanks guys!
I saw this video a few months ago and I have been looking for it ever since. I just now stumbled on it. Thanks for putting it together!
Great tutorial ! Thank for sharing your process on this. Really exited to learn more on this channel !
Thank you! There will be lots more to come
I just rec'd the GoPro5 as a gift and used it in Bora Bora for the first time. Glad I came across this tutorial thank you. I didn't change any settings on the GP because I thought it was all set and now I see all these tutorials with great suggestions. My question is what settings do you begin with when creating your footage?
Just the tutorial I needed. What a great and informative video. Cannot find any video which explains it better than you. Liked and subscribed :-)
Thanks Thomas! Really appreciate it and I'm glad you learned something
i know he is the best
This is fabulous content. Really happy to have come across this. Wonderful work!
Thanks so much! I definitely appreciate it
Nice work Matti! Love seeing your editing process.
Thanks guys! Really appreciate the support. Love what you guys do
i've learned so much from the editing process, its incredable
This was so great to watch and I keep rewinding it because of the sheer awesomeness of the thing. Truth is, I'm no editor and have no desire to be one. How do I politely ask/look for a director to do this very thing: taking my cell phone and GoPro footage and then turning it into this masterpiece. Thanks again buddy!

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the love :)
Wow 5 months from 8k to over a 100k! Well done TravelFeels you really merit this success. Also thank you so much, now looking at my footage of the last years it makes me shake my head so much but im gradually improving thanks to you.
Thank u sir... After editing into AE how did u transfers the file again into premiere ?
Kinda misleading title tho, drone shots are pretty cinematic from the get-go. Making shots cinematic is way more related to the actual movement of the camera, correct use of ND/pola filters and shutter speed/angle and/or adding the correct amount of motion blur in post.
This video is basically "how to color your footage like everyone else". If you want to save time and money, check videos that use Adobe Lumetri and not Red Giant.
posebukse did yo not hear him? It's not a drone camera. The drone has a GoPro camera. He's editing it so it doesn't look so much like a GoPro look
Marcus Capps a camera on a flying drone gives aerial footage last time I checked. Regardless if it's built in or not.
posebukse but also I do agree all he's basically doing is editing a video
Kinda misleading profile pic posebukse, since you're not actually deadmau5.
Also add potentially $300+ in software for plugins and grading
I dunno how much you read comments Matti, but watching this in 2019 and see how far you’ve come in how you present yourself, your enthusiasm.... it literally gives me hope I’ll get better.... not the message in the video but it’s what I took from it.... 💪🏻
*saturation, contrast, black bars*
*and the slight color grade*
True cinematic is film
you guys are awesome.. i don't know how you don't have hundreds of thousands of subs!! I just subbed!
hah thanks man! Always appreciate that kinda comment
Great tutorial Matti, planning on doing a similar video in the near future myself!
Oh thats awesome. I'm sure I'll learn a bunch from yours. I always like seeing what other people are doing
Can you make one explaining how to do it without plugins?
can you do one for fcpx?
I did one on FCPX/Premiere & no paid plugins on my channel. Different technique then Matti shows here. Love seeing how different people do things.
Ahmed Magdoul yeah also he covered the software he's using which is obvious it's after effects youre right
Congratulations at 1M!!!
what was your settings into the go pro to achieve that image
Great video, some useful tips. Thank you.
Awesome tutorial!
Thanks for watching!
How do you have a tick without any content
Wow ! What a great tutorial ! I really love the way you used. Simply and easy !
Now that's a video we needed from a long time
Thanks!
i totally agree with you
Wow matti has come a long way in a year with the quality of his videos
Amazing video man, keep up the great work! I love these tutorials! :)
Thanks for the support :) Makes me want to make more
also, got any places to visit only in the us and in canada?
I've been around both a bit. I really like the west coast of America. So many amazing places. I really liked crater lake, yosemite and zion.
TravelFeels thanks again man!
they are life changing hey
Interesting to watch but the final summary simply sums it up - wow. As a beginner with a lot of my clips needing help, you are a god send. Thank you
Don't waste your money on Red Giant color effects. Just use Lumetri Scopes.
I wouldnt say its a waste of money. Colorista is still much better then Lumetri but Lumetri is getting better for sure. But yea totally depends on where your at in your film making career
So I'm assuming this means linear mode doesn't require the fish eye correction?
In what way is Colorista better than Lumetri? Serious question. I've bought colorista way, way back and never used it, since the introduction of Lumetri Scopes. Maybe I'm missing something? Also, the plugin you're looking for in Premiere Pro is Lens Distortion.

So true! Tons of similarities
Thanks for the video! I just bought your LUT package :)
What are your settings in Protune? (ISO, White Balance, Color, etc.)
Awesome thanks! Flat color, white balance auto i believe and ISO I dont remember. But most important are flat color and medium sharpening
If you'd like to check it out, I just posted a Lightroom pack with 10 presets that are perfect for any GoPro footage! It would help a ton and I hope it helps, thanks!

Really good tutorial man - SUBSCRIBED.
Dude this taught me so much awesome!
Thats so good to hear
i know, i'm a better filmaker because of these videos
Thank you Matti! Great tutorial! :)
where do you find this desaturated LUT?
Its my own set of LUTs I created. You can buy them from here: goo.gl/X9NcSO
Can i use it at FCPX?
lordy I have alot to learn about video editing. first of all my computer struggles to even run a simple basic program. what kind of computer and software specifically are you using here? thanks.
Do you have the GoPro set to "Pro Tune" when you record?
Definitely!
Tyler Nahas how do you set it to that?
probably
color: flat
sharpness: low
Ev Compensation: -1.5 depending on the sun
iso limit 400 / 800/ 1600 depending on light conditions
white balance: set it manually or possibly native or auto
What is the shortcut you used on 1:40? Great video, by the way!
can i please have the name of the song
emmanuel nanyaro flow free - always dreaming
Fabian XX thank you very much

fantastic! i'm glad i subscribed early on, this channel has future!
And the future is gonna be pretty wild I have a feeling!
Amazing video. What settings did your have on your go pro when shooting with the go pro please? Is there a general rule when filming to determine which setting to use?
Great tutorial!!! Thank you so much)
Thanks for checking it out!
these tutorials are life changing

what's your gopro setting ?
4k at 24fps wide.
Waiting for your review on the GoPro 8 with the accesories external mic and front facing screen.
this is fantastic!
Nice tutorial! Thanks for the tips. Good to know that the fisheye look can be taken care of in editing
Hi there, what software u use?adobe after effect?
Afiq Senen So...did you WATCH the video...?
Matti, thank you for the tutorial,
BUT,
can I do all the same actions in Premiere Pro 2019?
What software is this?
adobe after effects
Yup Adobe Premiere and After Effects
TravelFeels 👍
@@mattih is if free to use
veipunii lana nope
This is great thanks so much. Can I ask, which view profile do you have your GoPro set to?
Is it possible to do all this in Sony Vegas? Also your LUTs Pack? :)
Apparently you can! I've never tried tho - goo.gl/5yuNDq
Great tips, style, and utility! Love it! There are so many tools to have in the toolbox when editing, and this is another great series to have at hand!
Very informative and helpful. Although, it would be even better if you added some filming techniques and tips.
Woah, the difference between 2017 and 2019 Matti is inspiring.
Love your intro video man! :)
Thanks dude! Appreciate it
whats the video program you use to make those videos?
Loving this channel!
Nice one, thanks!
very clear and concise. i don't use either after effects or premiere, i do everything in final cut pro 6. got used to fcp and never had the courage nor effort to learn another tool hahaa. great transferable knowledge from this video so it's good info either way. thanks!
Love the intro! Just had a question- at 0:14 how did you add that typography title?
Rebekah Chun 3D tracking. It’s easy
Great tips. I've definitely found shooting in protune and colour grading myself is so important to great high quality footage, every time!
Nice! thank you :)
@TravelFeels Yes you can directly remove the distortion in adobe premiere: Lens distortion removal
Really good! Thank you very much!!!
Thank you!
As someone who's already somewhat comfortable in after effects, I absolutely LOVE this workflow!
Great Video. I actually have the same drone setup. I love it but have trouble getting some of those high or far away shots, or ones with my back to the drone since i have to fly by sight. Do you have some way of seeing the video as you’re flying or just trust yourself flying by sight
One of your best videos yet
Awesome tutorial Matti I love your work and you have inspired me to make my channel introduction but I cant find the perfect music for my intro but I saw the Intro at the start of your youtube videos and wondering if I can get the soundtrack,
Thankyou

Thank you so much for all your videos. Why you don't use another focal with the gopro instead of using optics compensation? If you use linear mode for exemple? And why premier pro isn't good for optics compensation? Even with premier 2018?
Amazing intro! I had to keep watching it over and over. Thank you for the tips!

Hi. Great Tutorial. Quick question: Is it ideal to switch linear POV mode in GoPro? Does it have a downside? Or should I shoot in standard mode and do the remove fish eye? Thanks for your tips
Hi, great instructional video! i have a doubt tho, which color profile do you use on your screen settings of the mac ox?
loved your video man thank you for your tutorial....I would like to ask you some questions..
I bought my Gopro hero 5 yesterday and I downloaded my premiere pro...
how should I capture from my go pro , because when I insert my videos in premiere pro is lagging a lot , I have I MacBook Air what should I of to prevent lagging /.????
Hi, I came to Toronto 7 months ago,and I started to making video after I saw your video!!Thank you.
Nice video.
But can you tell us what are the settings of the camera? Especially the Field of View and White Balance.
I just bought a new Hero 5 and I want to know what are the best settings for a documentary, to be shown on theaters.
Thanks a lot
+ some film grain to overlay the whole thing before adding the crop bars on top :)
Love your tutorials. The presentation, content , everything is just amazing. Tq!
You used the phantom 2? Bro you're a God for keeping the car in the frame. D:
What are your settings for your GO PRO? (resolutions, frames, Fov and protune setting). I liked how you explained everything in detail
Great tutorial! It really makes a difference when using those filters and adjustments. Quick question: why aren't you using dji mavic for drone shooting? And do you like go pro that much? It feels like there are new cameras that are outperforming gopro, like Sony. Thanks again!
Hi great video!!! Just wondering how I get the black border at the top and bottom of the video? Cheers!
What type of person dislikes something like this ??
Real in-depth helpfull advise that is hard to find elsewhere and 242 people don't like it ??
Top top top!!! Thanks Matti. Very useful. The quality is impressive post edit.
So useful man! Keep going with these kind of tutorials!

I have been using these tutorials in my own videos and it really helps a lot
Great tutorial thank you so much!!! but i have question.... is it ok if i download Pr and Ae for free or is better to buy the program?
Thank you so much, I haven't done many short films but planning to do more and this will really help me. Last time I tried Final Cut Pro but seeing you use a mac I'll definitely try After effects. Thanks man!
