Great video, used it to walk through the carb rebuild on my 2005 Rancher 350 4x4. I too had issues with popping apart the electrical connection and ended up just cutting and splicing the wires (hack job I know but it worked in the end). Thank you for putting time and effort into letting the weekend mechanic not be afraid of the task. Cheers!
Absolutely a great video. Thank you for posting it. I was going to try and clean my carb up and use all the parts I had without a parts kit. One thing I did learn was not get carb cleaner on the O ring on the pilot jet. It was old and had a few cracks but the carb cleaner tended to make it swell up and it would not fit back down in the hole. Needed replacing so no big deal. Just posting to maybe help other people out.
Great Video .... 2005 Honda 350 4x4... I soaked the striped Carb in New Carb cleaner for 1 day... wasn't sure where the small spring fell out of and didn't see the small o-ring where the small spring was... your video helped putting the carb back together spring and o-ring etc and I set the idle mixture jet back to factory 1 3/4 turns... Quad runs prefect with ALL the Old Factory Parts
I used the piece that the main jet screws into to push the new o ring into the hole for the air fuel assembly. When I tried to push the o ring in with the assembly, the o ring got pushed up on the spring because I was missing the washer and the kit didnt come with one. Good video.
My jet. Had a SINGLE D head. Became annoying when I didn't have the bit or the tool to adjust. But. Best believe. It became an event getting it adjusted correctly once I had the tool and bit.
Hey John, when you took the float bowl off around 06:12, shouldn't there have been a plastic jet holder that goes over the big jet? In a lot of on-line diagrams, it is referenced as #24, which is part number 16168-HC4-003. Maybe it is not needed?
My man, you helped me so much with this, I will feel much more confident when I try to go into my carburetor next time. I really appreciate you taking the time for this video I really do. Thank you bud 🙏
Enjoyed watching your video on cleaning the carb. It was very well done and easy to hear, some are not, smile. We have a 1987 TRX 350 Honda Fourtrax and it has been giving us some issue lately seeming to be running rich. We have cleaned everything and are wondering if you have any specific ideas on this issue. Thank you.
Hi love all vids clear and well spoken l am after a set of rocker arms for my Honda trx 300 all discontinued in England can you still get them over in America if so we’re thank s
So I have a 1992 honda 4trax. I did a carb clean and rebuild. I reassembled and now I have no gas feed to the carb. Fuel comes out when the line is not connected. Soon as I connect the line nothing. Thanks again, great vid.
2005 Honda 350 TRX FE,470 hours on machine, second owner 20 hours in ran fine. Now she won't start unless you flood it. Idles hard for a few seconds, gas starts to flow out of the air filter box breather tube (a lot) then stalls. Good spark on plug though. Obviously this needs a carburetor cleaning and rebuild but should I also purge and clean the gas line and tank? Should I also change the oil because of all that gas coming out of that crankcase breather. Informative video by the way.
Thanks for the video. Helped me tremendously. Had a Honda rancher that had set for 5 + years and the gas in the float bowl was gel. Any tips for cleaning out the gas tank so I’m not back to the same issue with carb after running for 30 minutes?
Use diesel fuel to flush it out but let the fuel set overnight. Shake vigorously the following day and empty out the fuel. Let the tank air dry with the cap off and then blow out with compressed air. That's what I did anyway and it worked great. I had to replace the petcock too because the little plastic strainer tube was toast.
Is your Chinese amazon carb still running fine? I was tempted to do the same thing instead of rebuilding, but so many reviews an finding out most don't last long term
Got a 99 TRX450S that when trying to adjust the fuel screw I can close the screw completely and the bike doesn’t even drop an rpm it seems. When would cause the rpms to not change at all?
Hi John. I know this is an old video so I hope you see this. On the bottom of this carb opposite the idle screw is a black plunger looking thing. Can you please tell me what that is and what it does? Thanks, your vids are the best Buddy!
As per my question from yesterday, hubby is now wondering if you have any info on replacing the needle as although the machine is not high mileage it is older. Do you think a worn needle would cause a rich mixture stoping it from idling. He is hoping to hear back before he goes any further. Thanks in advance, Norah
I've been having a problem on mine at the very bottom of the carburator there's a little hole where the overflow goes and it constantly leaks gas if I turn the screw for it to stop my atv won't start at all I need some sort of direction where I need to be going to get that fixed thanks
I have a 2003 Honda TRX400EX and I'm looking to buy a new carb. The 2003 model of the carb is way more expensive than the 2005 model of it. Would the 2005 carb fit? Would there be a preformance difference?
Hello iv got honda trx 350 that won't start was going the day before fine. starter is working fine good spark good compression fuel is getting to carburettor is there anything else that I can do thanks
So we are working with our carb and the hose that’s still connected when you removed the carb, what is that for. Our machine is leaking fuel out that hose. Is something stuck or possibly broken? Thanks!
Very helpful video, much appreciated! Couple questions: 1) my foreman sat for 7 months.. would just the old gas alone cause it to not start? Just asking because I took the carb apart and it wasn’t TOO bad (but cleaned it anyway). 2) Question on the slow jet inside the bowl area.. when I screw it back in you say “until it seats”.. is this pretty much until I start to feel resistance? Curious because after a few turns I feel the resistance but it still feels like you could screw it down tighter with a little more force.
After only 7 months, it should start, it just might not run properly. That's a guess, it depends on conditions. Resistance could be debris on the threads, you will know when it seats because it bottoms out.
Partzilla Thanks for the quick reply. Just got the carb out back in after cleaning and fresh gas. Started right up and idles fine but when I went to drive it I could literally push the throttle wide open and would only reach a top speed of about 10 mph in 3rd gear. Obviously something is restricting something but I have no clue where to look to correct it. Any ideas?
All the oem screws on any Japanese anything are JIS. "Japanese Industrial Screws"... are NOT a phillips head. A phillips screwdriver will ruin a JIS screw. Best screwdriver I've found is "Vessel 220V" available on Amazon....it has #1,2,3 JIS...#2 and 3 Pozi Driv (new style phillips designed not to cam out when design torque is reached), and 6mm flat head driver. It has a ball grip and flat spots to allow tremendous grip.
I noticed that some of my fuel lines have broke and I’m unsure how they go back on. Can I get some help plz. Also what is the black thing on the line cause mine doesn’t have it.
There is a hose with What appears to be an in-line filter that comes off the bottom of the bowl does that just hang free as an overflow or is that supposed to be connected on the opposite end to something?
It’s supposed to hang down since it’s the overflow that way if the carb floods the gas flows to the ground instead of dripping onto what’s directly underneath the carb. Usually there will be a tab that’s supposed to guide the hose.
Do you ever have a scenario where shutting the fuel off does not stop its flow I had to plug my vent line so it would form a vacuum and could not drain the tank
I have the rancher 350. I did an engine rebuild and now it idles, but does pulse a little bit, but when i rev it to about 1/4 or so throttle, it begins to sputter and will choke off if you hold it there. I put a brand new carburetor on, cleaned the fuel tank and put fresh gas in, played with the fuel mixture screw, and nothing makes a difference. Any suggestions what to try next?
What does the bottom fuel line of the carburetor feed too. Mine was just dangling leaking gas. Trying to fix but don’t see anything the attach other end too.
your needle valve is passing gas ,you can adjust them by heating up float and bending needle holding area , over time gas will make float sag and not seat needle and allow gas to pass through , this is a problem on gravity fed carbs vs fuel pumped ones . float should be level when holding carb upside down . Its important to shut off gas valve on a gravity fed system when turn your machine off , if not and the needle is not seating you can fill your crankcase with gas and dilute you oil and burn out engine or it can leak out hose on bottom of carb and your whole tank will empty on ground , I always turn my gas valve off just before turning off ATV when finished driving for the day .
Brother just gave my son his old 2002 Honda TRX 350 TM2. There is apparently a TM and a TM2. I know that the TM means two-wheel manual, but can anyone tell me what the 2 means? Many thanks!
Great videos, HONDA still builds good ATVs but they are not as Great as they use to be. The plating on the bolts, levers, etc are not anodized with yellow zinc like the did back in the 80s for example. They also don't powder coat the exhaust, frame, or even the wheels anymore. Take a high pressure hose to the wheels and watch the paint fly! I've been seen 250 RECONS less than 5 years old look 30, rust everywhere and the plastics fade easily, everything put together with push pins and they even fade lol.. unbelievable. I hate to say it but when they were built in Japan everything down to the nuts and bolts were correctly plated, plastics were thicker and better. They are made with lower cost parts made in different parts of the world like Indonesia etc.. cheap
Hi all - not very savvy when it comes to mechanical work, so this may be a dumb question - I have a hose at the bottom of my carburetor that doesn’t seem to go anywhere…is this some sort of drainage hose?
I’m in my Kawasaki prairie 700 it was running lean so I have two carbs here and I put in a cheap amazon kit and unfortunately it looks like the main jet I was replacing where is screws in there are 4 side holes and smaller holes on the stem but none down the center like one of the 4 have I’ve never seen this should there not be one? Im cleaning with torch head cleaner and carb cleaner and I cannot get the center hole to open worried these jets are wrong
Great video, and looks like you know what you are doing. BUT, I would've never, ever put that carburetor back without cleaning, even if is just "cosmetic" and the air box. But that's just me
My trx300ex leaks fuel from the lower drip tube (tube at very bottom of bowl) when not running but stops when it's running. Were you having that problem and if so, what was your fix?
@@tinytim9453 you can adjust them by heating up float and bending needle holding area , over time gas will make float sag and not seat needle and allow gas to pass through , this is a problem on gravity fed carbs vs fuel pumped ones . float should be level when holding carb upside down . Why is my diefram getting jamed inside we put a new one in it work for a bit of time then stoped. took the top of and its getting jamed in there it wont pull up uless you un jam it PLEASE ANSWER Thanks Theres no power
The parts that were not replaced were in really good condition, it just wasn't necessary. It's preferred to have OEM parts as long as they don't require replacement.
I got a 2000 yamaha big bear 400 5speed semi automatic 2wheeldrive everything works but it only go's 15 mph its supposed to go 60 mph would you now the problem
Start with a full carb clean. This is a common problem with multiple brands. It can be as simple as the carb or clutch or an ECU issue. You just have to run through everything until you find the problem.
I have a 2004 rancher 350 2wd and I don’t know where the vacuum lines go that attach to the carb do they just go in the hole on the gas tank and vent in the air? Reason I’m asking is because I recently bought a new cab and it keeps running really rich and pouring gas out the over flow tube. Could my problems be from the choke cable not being hooked up? My cable was frozen have a new one on order. I’ve already tried another carb on it and same thing after being ran has a hard time starting like it’s flooded and leaks all the gas out till I shut off fuel supply. Someone please give me some insight and information on this it would be greatly appreciated
It doesnt have any vac lines, all of those are vent lines and yes, they run up the back of the gas tank to a section on the intake duct that holds them in place.
Hello, can you or anyone on here share with me the orientation of the idle/air mixture screw jet? You have the jet, a oring at the top, then the spring, and in the bottom of the of the carburetor, you have another oring and a tiny washer. So in the bottom, is it the washer first, then the oring? I just rebuilt mine, and after I slid the spring on, I put the metal washer on then the oring, and placed it all inside the carburetor. Anyone know the proper orientation? At 8:15 into the video, he lacked in showing how it came out in detail.
I've completely taken my carb apart, made sure all jets are open and clean with a tip cleaner, but I still can't get it to run. You have to cover intake of carb with hand to start, then it floods with fuel. Won't idle at all, if your lucky runs at full throttle a few seconds and dies. Almost impossible to start. What's wrong? I have two ATVs doing this. One ran fine, was shut off then never ran right after. Both units completely cleaned entire fuel systems and tanks. I can't figure it out. Any advice? One unit set up for years with bad gas. I thourghly cleaned it. Should I just replace entire carbs? Please help. I'm ready to sink two ATVs in my pond at this point..
My Rancher 350 is running rich but when I try adjusting the pilot screw the RPM doesn't change at all. Tried screwing all the way in and it's still running rich. Is there something I'm doing wrong possibly?

Can’t tell you the last time I felt obligated to like a video. Very well done. So clear, informative, and helpful. 5/5 would recommend.

These videos are really good. Thank you.
When he says to “seat the jet”, what does that actually mean? Does it mean tighten it until you start to feel resistance?
What is the electrical wire for?

have you had to deal with any Honda carb floats sticking or fuel leaking from the bowl drain? (drained my whole tank one night)
Its important to shut off gas valve on a gravity fed system every time you turn your machine off , if not if the needle is not seating you can fill your crankcase with gas and burn out engine
Great video.
Why is my diefram getting jamed inside we put a new one in it work for a bit of time then stoped. took the top of and its getting jamed in there it wont pull up uless you un jam it PLEASE ANSWER Thanks
Theres no power
Curious as to why you decided not to use all of the new parts from the Moose kit?
The parts that were not replaced were in really good condition, it just wasn't necessary. It's preferred to have OEM parts as long as they don't require replacement.
Thank you!
Partzilla ok ill try to figure it out thanks
its a yamaha lol should have bought a HONDA
Thats the problem you got a yamaha
foxster I had a 400 bear drives like a tank basically can go through anything lol
Your float bowl in probably stuck open. Try to pull the bowl and make sure it doesn't have trash in it. Plus check the fuel height in the bowl.
I would replace the jets before you replace the carb. Sometimes when you think they're clear, they still aren't.
May 350 rancher runs and idles fine but given gas it dies any thoughts on this
Mine does the same thing.
I had my carburetor rebuilt on my honda and it leaks at the primer now but will not run if the leak is stopped
I think my is the same problem out that bottom hole where the little screw is did u ever get it fixed or
My Rancher 350 is running rich but when I try adjusting the pilot screw the RPM doesn't change at all. Tried screwing all the way in and it's still running rich. Is there something I'm doing wrong possibly?
It's not the pilot screw lol. It's the brass flat head.
