    This video explains the North Korean justice system by examining the case of Otto Warmbier, a student who traveled to Pyongyang as a tourist. He was arrested for ‘severe crimes’ and given hard labor in North Korea’s prison system.
    So what is life like inside the North Korean prison system, and how does it work? Is there a proper justice system in Korea? Will Warmbier be in one of the infamous prisons?
    In this mini North Korean documentary, I’ll be exploring all these questions about Kim Jong-un’s government and exposing some of North Korea’s best kept secrets.

      @tatispoon First, Otto's coma was caused by botulism and a sleeping pill. Second, I don't believe the North Koreans purposefully made him sick. I think the living conditions in NK made Otto sick, the North Koreans freaked out not knowing what was wrong with him, and tried to throw all their ancient medical techniques at him hoping to treat him. When the North Koreans suspected that Otto was going to die, then they hastily arranged his return. So if anything, NK was indirectly responsible for Otto's death. Whether or not Otto committed the crime he is accused of is anyone's guess unless NK is willing to share more data on the vague video footage.

    • @conversationtosaurusrex
      @conversationtosaurusrex 5 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      No, we know how he died. He was released back to the US in a coma like state. "He was able to breathe on his own and blink his eyes, but otherwise showed no signs of awareness of his environment, such as understanding language, nor did he initiate any purposeful movements." The cause of this coma "According to his medical team, brain scans revealed Warmbier had suffered extensive loss of brain tissue throughout his brain, consistent with a cardiopulmonary event that caused the brain to be deprived of oxygen". The physicians found no evidence of physical abuse or torture; scans of Warmbier's neck and head were normal outside of the brain injury.
      The North Koreans handed over brain scans conducted on Warmbier, concluding he was within this state for about a year. Around April of 2016 to June of 2017. He got in this Coma state one month after his trial. Evidence concludes that brain damage due to lack of oxygen was the cause of his Coma. As for his death "After his parents requested his feeding tube be removed, Warmbier died in the hospital at 2:20 p.m. on June 19, 2017, at the age of 22". " Doctors speculated that the cause of death could have been a blood clot, pneumonia, sepsis or kidney failure. Sleeping pills could have caused Warmbier to stop breathing if he had botulism and was paralyzed from it"

    What I found really interesting about the footage of ‘Otto Warmbier’ stealing the poster is how careful and respectfully the person in the video puts down the poster onto the ground. If Otto was brave enough to try and steal the poster without fully knowing the gravity of his action he’d not going to be so cautious putting the poster on the floor as most people would chuck it to the ground, or rip it from the wall or put it under their armpit.. why put it down on the floor against the lower wall instead of letting it fall to the ground?

No one deserves to be put into a fucking coma for just stealing a poster, and I’m sorry for what happened to him. But what he did was stupid. If you visit a country that’s known for being extremely strict you better fucking behave. Fuck the North Korean regime for brutally taking his life and the life of many others, but he should’ve known better than to risk life and limb over some silly cult personality poster you can easily buy on the internet.

Yes, he obviously was told to memorize the confession he was given and thought, just maybe, they would let him go or the U.S. would negotiate his release. He might have even been told that by his captors and given a glimmer of hope. He shouldn't have had to have gone thru the horrible suffering and brutal death he experienced over a poster, for God's sake. I wonder why he wasn't treated like the others that got out early and were saved by the U.S. because they were U.S. citizens like himself? As I remember, all we heard at the time was the U.S. was "negotiating" with NK and the parents were suppose to be quiet. Then what seemed "suddenly", he was sent home in the horrible state they put him in and died...over a poster. What happened that we couldn't get him out like the rest of the U.S. citizens who were captured in NK?

    • @em-loof-tonnac
      @em-loof-tonnac 4 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      I think he was told he could have it, then once he got it down, they told him to put it on the floor. It was a set up from the beginning. This happened the day after the US sanctions were put in place. Those crazy sadistic f*cks had this all planned out, it was in retaliation. He was in a tour group, they are told about the cameras and tape recorders in their rooms. He would have never done something so stupid, of his own free will. The pre-scripted forced confession is proof enough, they had it all planned out.

      @Betty Smith Sadly everything is done only when it’s politically advantageous. Us regular folk, we don’t matter too much in those negotiations. Think about it. If Otto was the son of a strong political figure in the west things would’ve turned out differently. As for what happened to him, it’s hard to say. There was no sign of physical torture nor botulism as NK officials claimed. My guess is he contracted some kind of pathogen. Naegleria Fowleri rings a bell because of the state he came in and how fast he died. Wouldn’t surprise me, really. In those work camps I’m sure there is no shortage of viruses, bacteria, amoebas and the like around.

    We now know, as of the day I’m writing this, that Otto is deceased. My heart goes out to him and his family members….not only for his treatment and death but for the unknown. What he was never able to tell them even though he was returned to the US. The NK’s returned him in this condition on purpose and I think it is pretty obvious. They’re sadistic and they wouldn’t be happy just announcing the fact Otto passed. They did something to him and allowed him to die in front of his parents. Not as a gesture of sympathy or anything that could be remotely tied to compassion. They did it to hurt not only Otto , but to hurt his loved ones even more so than just receiving the news and being returned a corpse. No, they let his family and friends watch and look after him as doctors told them that there was not much more they could do and they wanted to inflict the suffering of Otto into everyone else who loved him through the fact that he was there, he was alive but nothing could be done and then they could watch him die. This is my interpretation of the NK’s interpretations. It doesn’t make it factual, but I can bet I’m not far off. The press conference….when Otto speaks of using his most stealthy and sneaky shoes to be silent to commit the absolute barbarism of removing a piece of paper from a wall….. it was the most artificial sounding statement I ever heard. NOBODY IN THE US talks like that !!!!!!! PERIOD!! My stealthiest sneakers or how ever they had him word it…… it’s just not realistic… it’s not American style speech patterns. I’m so sorry for Ottos family. God bless Otto and your loved ones.

      Actually it's kind of funny just because of how ridiculous it is. I mean yes the guy died and that is tragic. Sure he wasn't the brightest fellow, traveling to such a hostile country in the first place and all, but he probably didn't deserve to be traumatized to death. And as a tourist in the modern world you shouldn't have to worry about the governments of other countries themselves falsely imprisoning you. Maybe a cartel or human traffickers, that's to be expected. This is just despicable for any political regime to do. It's an outrage that totalitarian societies like this are even allowed to still exist. I can't help but laugh at how blatantly scripted this apology/media statement is, at the same time it's horrifying because it appears his frustration and distress is genuine. Except it isn't due to some guilt of being a pawn for the "United States Administration", but it's out of fear of his captors and frustration toward their relentlessness. As a pampered westerner he would've been completely unprepared for such treatment by officials, certainly not intense interrogation and physical coercion. He's just saying whatever they want to hear to avoid being harmed, apparently a futile attempt. And he really tried to sell his dedication too.
      That's what I get most from his speech. Him acting like he's desperate to convince others to resist the US administration or whatever, could just as easily be perceived as genuine desperation, but rather to convince the people who are holding him hostage that he's cooperating to the fullest. I can only imagine what they threatened him with to make him so submissive. And realizing that while listening to him speak, and knowing what became of him afterwards... is just horrifying.
