Superb eye to detail. I often think about how sculptors view other people, because they can see so clearly how dimensions actually look. You're extremely talented! I wish I had a third of that ability, and or the time to practice/hone my skills. This is phenomenal!
+Gothhana thank you. Sculpting is basically a diary of how an artist mind observe a subject. :) Instead of writing or painting your observation, it's 3 dimensional instead :)
Julian Khor I am a model builder, building pretty much most things. But I am also working on this sci/fi concept, where I will be making 1/6 scale figures. And looking at your videos, I learn quite a bit I must admit. So, looks like quite shortly, I will be starting to sculpt as well.Keep up the great work, it is awesome:)
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! You are a master artist and I'm forever grateful for the priceless knowledge you provided. One of the best tutorials ever? I have one question, how do you scale the reference images to the exact size of your head?
Hi Coladito1 I have yet to try to paint realistic heads so far, I might want to give it ago myself. But coming back to your question, no I do no paint them for now usually someone else handles that department. :)
Julian, your work is phenomenal. I've been watching your videos because a short time ago I decided to sculpt Wolverine. I haven't used clay since I was 13 (24 now) and your videos helped me to pick up a few new tricks. I'm currently sculpting wolverine and will periodically post pictures of them on my instagram -sittingintheshade. I don't have a billion followers and I know that you are probably quite busy, but feel free to check the pictures out. Thank you so much.
Hi SoulScribePro Thank you for your compliment, I just uploaded part two, I did some changes to the brow , chin and retouched up some other details, hope it's more uncanny :)
Really good. Im wanting to make a 1:6 head for Clementine from the walking dead: the final season. Do you have any tips(i need them.) or what you would do if you would be making her?
Amazing work! What about this material, NONAMECLAY? It is necessary to heat it before starting? Do you have to bake this clay to make it hard? It is possible to paint it after? Thanks Julian Khor
Julian, I have been searching for in depth tutorials on how to get started and how to use these on the 1/6 scale seamless bodies. Do you have any suggestions or point me towards some instructions on how to complete this? Do your sculpts work with the bodies in question? Amazing work my friend, very inspirational and intriguing and the music was a perfect match for this video!!
Hi Chris, thank you for the message. Essentially what you need is a process from start to finish including baking, casting and painting. If you are interested I did a bruce lee sculpt where I shared the entire process including the ones I mentioned. Just search for bruce lee from my channel. Think there are about 100+ videos you can slowly sieve through to see which one is helpful :)
Hey, Julian. I’m currently sculpting a michael jackson head sculpt... roughly 1:5th - 1:4 scale. I’m having issues with fine details. I’m using NONAME clay.... I think medium hardness. Could I message you somehow to get some advice?
Hi Kingfish Thank you for watching :).... I learned from snooping around the internet for resources, and watching how other people sculpt on TH-cam. You just need to know how to search for them. Try Simon Lee , Mark Newman , Filip Faraut and of course Julian Khor :)
Skill comes from TRUE observation. It is how your eyes and your mind work together and JUDGE special distance. If you use calipers or any method other than observation you are increasing your chance of success in accuracy. All pros use any trick to SAVE time but showing beginners to use a measuring method, is endorsing and encouraging false sense of confidence. Can you understand that?
Sarah McFadden Hi Sarah, I do not have a fancy camera setup. I have a table top tripod for my Iphone and I just place it on the desk in front of me. Just be careful don't knocked it off the table while at work. I often does that. Hahha.. I am still using my Iphone5S
Hello i've been watching your sculpting videos and I think you're skills are just amazing. Btw, I've just started on this and I've seen you're using this plastic armatures. I've used one stick similar for my own sculpture, but my question is, what happens when you put it in the oven? Does the plastic melt when you cook it or...? I would appreciatte some help as I'm a beginner... Thanks.
quike1987 it will definitely melt. When i use super sculpey, I use to boil my sculpt. The heat is constant and will not over bake. However when you boil the plastic will be soften, but it will not melt.
Bom dia, ví seus trabalho e sou admirador, sou iniciante e gostaria de saber qual o tipo de massa que usa para fazer essa peça nesse vídeo? Parabéns pelo seu talento e excelentes trabalhos!
Hi Hallena, its quite simple. I use photoshop for the resizing. Just determind the actual height and width of your sculpt, and within photoshop, just set the image size accordingly. For this case, each head I had it scaled to fit into that. Here's a youtube video, not by me. But u will get the idea th-cam.com/video/biH-FSeu3RM/w-d-xo.html
This tutorial is amazing! I have one question though. Do you know maybe another brand of clay I could use instead of nonameclay, so as to get similar results? I don't live in the US, and it would be really difficult to acquire the said brand.
u can try chavant clay, or sculpey? or monster clay.. not sure if u can get those from your place... but i still prefer nonameclay. you can get it from www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay
When using that kind of clay, do we have lots of time to sculpt and fix and add clay before it drys out and not useful anymore? Talking from a beginner point of view.
Julian Khor, okay, I am an admirer of your work and I am beginner in this art, I would like to know how you put the references in scale to sculpt, and ranges are the same size? because when I try pergar 2 photos of a person they are even putting different size in photoshop, I realized that the video of Jackie Chan you use a reference for measurements and other volume to the face. is it? I appreciate your help and success
Hi Renato Apologies for the late reply and also thank you for being a fan of my work. In regards to your question, For jackie chan, it's a 1: 6 scale head and I measured that from a hot toys figure that I have lying around in my room. You probably noticed the sizes of the refernce image that I have printed out are of various sizes, actually I did not need them to be of the same scale because I only need them as a visual reference for his facial feature only. However I do have a properly scaled version on one of the image in the print out and I would use that to primarily measure stuff like the width and height of the head, eyes, nose and mouth position, that's about it. The rest as I said are just for facial feature reference only. Of course if you can always scale them all the same size and that would be more convenient if you are just starting out. Also always try to get reference from one source and from the same angle. That way your measurement would be more consistent. Making screen grabs from a movie scene is always a good place to start. :) Hope my explanation makes sense.

good job!!! i use chavant clay the harder one, what is the clay to work with 1:6 scale heads? how about súper sculpey? i hace never used wax, to be honest. should i use wax to get that fine work like you do? thanks
Hi Jesus, there are a lot of people who can achieve excellent details with tall those clay you mentioned. I guess it's just a matter of preference. As for me, I have tried Chavant, Super Sculpey and others.. but I prefer NONAMECLAY the most. I like it because of it's flexibility and cleanliness. As I have mentioned before.. it's almost odorless that makes it nice to work in a small room and it does not get sticky on your tool , hands and furniture !. It also hold fine details very well and will not smudge even when handled with your hands. :) I got mine from : www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay
Thanks Julian!!! i will try wax, to be honest i've trued first industrial plasteline, chavant medium, chavant hard!! i thought i found the perfect clay but i met supersculpey i ssaid this awesome then i was looking for monsterclay, many people say this the best clay ever, but i am trying all the clays maybe the was works very well for my, i will let you know my experience in wax!! Julian thank yuo very much for your time.
This is brilliant, but why do sculptors on youtube always skip over the eyes? it jumps from round blobs to perfectly sculpted eyes, I'd love to see what you did there!
she means... do you accept commissions?? as in...she wants a sculpture of herself and wants to know if you would do it for her. btw... amazing job... you are a genius buddy... Do jet li next.. my fav action movie actors
Hello, you use clay to make these figures Where i can get? , Since I´m from Spain and can not find it any place. Another question is What method you use to figure dry completely? and then it is ready to paint, I hope your answer , thank´s!.
Julian Khor pero no hay mucha diferencia entre la arcilla y el barro ... Yo uso la arcilla y los pequeños detalles que no puedo hacerlo porque se desmorona
I am using a type of Oil Base Wax clay. It does not require baking, remains hard in room temperature and will never dry out. It will soften when warmed. So it's great to sculpt with high detail as it will not smudge when handled. If you are interested you can get it from www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay
it's wax.. u can paint on it.. but extreme heat or when you drop it will deform.. So long it's in room temperature it should be fine. THe cooler the temperature.. the harder it gets
Julian ... I'm interested to buy your materials. I live in Brazil and do not have to buy? I need a your contact so we can talk better. I'm your fan, Congratulations!
Hi Piter Thank you so much for watching my videos :). Unfortunately www.D-AnatomyStore.com only sell their products online only. You can private message me if you any you would want to ask , I'll try my best to answer them for you :)

Hi Scott Wang, thank you for watching and sure I'll make it available online once the casting process is ready :)
When using that kind of clay, do we have lots of time to sculpt and fix and add clay before it drys out and not useful anymore? Talking from a beginner point of view.
it's a type of oil based wax clay, so it will never dry out on you. The best part is, it stays firm and pliable always. It reacts to heat.

Julian Khor, okay,

Hi Renato
Apologies for the late reply and also thank you for being a fan of my work.
In regards to your question, For jackie chan, it's a 1: 6 scale head and I measured that from a hot toys figure that I have lying around in my room. Hope my explanation makes sense.
thank you very much helped, I thought that would be all the same size and are actually references and to confirm the proportions
thank you
Why are your hands so beautiful?
I have been told, they are too dainty to be a male and too hairy to be a female

good job!!! i use chavant clay the harder one, what is the clay to work with 1:6 scale heads? how about súper sculpey? i hace never used wax, to be honest. should i use wax to get that fine work like you do?
Julian Khor uhm im pretty dure Of that, but what about the casting? i know that wax is kind Of hard isn't? but when you do casting it work well?
jesus steven Espinoza it works fine. A lot of professional toy
Companies in fact use wax in their work.
Have fun and good luck :)
This is brilliant, but why do sculptors on youtube always skip over the eyes? it jumps from round blobs to perfectly sculpted eyes, I'd love to see what you did there!
hows the music now ?
This is so Fantastic

Alex Sdraub the clay is hard enough to be handled in room temperature. www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay

Hi CrazyGamingXL
Thanks man! :)
My first glance at the thumbnail on my phone, I thought it was Kevin Spacey.
Hello, you use clay to make these figures Where i can get? , Since I´m from Spain and can not find it any place. Another question is What method you use to figure dry completely? and then it is ready to paint, I hope your answer , thank´s!.
ana almazan Hi Ana, I use this clay. www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay/
there's part two :)
Just wonderful and so inspiring.
they thanks scot!
The resemblance is uncanny. I could do that with sketches, but sculpting is a different story.
Wow! very impressive !
Que excelente trabajo extraordinario eres un Miguel Angel
that hardness uses for clay? what do you recommend?
i'd recommend medium hard. Easy on the fingers and tools
If you are interested you can get it from www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay
once the modeling, the figure is dry or there is risk that is deformed ..... at the time when the paint
it's wax.. u can paint on it.. but extreme heat or when you drop it will deform.. So long it's in room temperature it should be fine. THe cooler the temperature.. the harder it gets
What clay are u using
It's nonameclay. www.d-anatomystore.com/nonameclay
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very impressive to watch
