I am so happy to see kisumu - my father was born in kisumu in 1964 and lived in miwani also - due to circumstances he migrated to the Uk in 1979 -my father tells me so much about the wonderful place he grew up in - the food, lake Victoria, sugar cane and his school - cannot wait till I visit Kisumu - he has never forgotten his wonderful childhood and still misses Kisumu/Miwani
Yeah Miwani was a wonderful place to live in. My Dad worked there too we had free furnished company house with fridge, beds, seats, cookers, free electricity and water. There was free bus transportation to and from school, free shopping and gifts every Christmas from the company to employees, company club house and so much love amongst the company employees many of whom were Indians. The houses in the Estates were shared based on employees rank in the company. They even had Barchelor's Quaters (BQ) for those without families. It's a pity how it was ran down to nothing. I was there 5 years ago the only thing remaining was few of the beautiful neighbors we left, part of the beautiful sugar plantation and the excellent weather.
