  • My butterfly garden is in desperate need of a big chop. That’s right, cut back, trim up and open up walkways that have become overgrown. It happened so fast in the summer with all of the rains we’ve been having and it’s time for my garden to get maintained. It feels so good to have open space again, where things were once overgrown, every garden needs a big chop and a big trim every once in a while and today it was my garden’s turn. I love bringing you along to work on projects in my garden. It makes me feel like you all are right there with me and I’m not alone. Thank you so much for all your support and watching all of my videos and your comments. I love hearing from you. I hope you enjoy this video.
    My hope for my channel is that it inspires many people to plant a butterfly garden so we can get more habitat back on our planet and give these beautiful creatures a place to rest their wings and lay their eggs and find nutrient rich nectar. I also hope that you get to learn more about different caterpillars and butterflies that live in your area that you can have visit your garden. It’s a beautiful thing.
    This video would likely be enjoyed by gardening enthusiast, nature lovers and people who love butterflies.

    Everything is working! It seems like every host plant has attracted butterflies but my pawpaw :(

      Yes, the pawpaw. You know I read somewhere that the Zebra Swallowtails are attracted to white flowers. Of course, now I am growing some polar bear zinnia seeds. 😂😂😉😉

    Oh how my garden needs a good chop. Maybe tomorrow lol Your Garden looks fabulous and as always inspires me. Happy to report more butterflies are visiting and I'm seeing hungry caterpillars. Was wondering if it would happen this year. What a relief. It makes me so happy! Have fun...

      Yes, same here, more caterpillars and a wider variety of butterflies visiting. It should get even better when all of my swallowtails eclose. 💛🩵💛🩵

    Great job Susan everything looks so good and open. I just love the LIFE that your videos hold. Butterflies flying by randomly must be just so rewarding to you? Just great! Those split leaves would make such a nice arrangement. Lol don't mind me, they are just so cool. Lol Wonderful video. That black and yellow swallowtail I think it was....holy cow what a BEAUTY!!! Have fun! ♥😃🦋

    I have been monarch deprived for a while like everyone else. I finally found two cats, and brought them in. The chrysalis eclosed so quickly. I released them yesterday. The were healthy and beautiful.

    Day time moths are just as good as butterflies to me most of the time usually just tiny.

      @ButterflyGardeningwithSusan  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh for sure yes!!! Nighttime moths are fabulous too, but I don’t get to see them often.

    I’m going to try to start a vertically integrated landscape architecture landscaping and nursery company that specializes in butterfly, hummingbird, pollinator, and wildlife gardens, wildlife ponds, as well as edible landscapes, also natives and perennial vegetables, rare plants. Honestly I have been trying to articulate this feeling for a while but it feels like a calling.

    My garden is very overgrown too. I am in central Illinois and I lost 2 huge Mexican sunflowers from the rain from hurricane Beryl. They were over 5 feet tall and around. We needed the rain but not the wind. This is the first year I have had good luck growing them. I have two remaining. Love their blooms. No monarchs. Saw a single swallowtail a couple weeks ago. I have a bronze fennel which looks like it has some very tiny eggs. Keeping my eyes on them. Think I counted 16. Don’t think I will have enough fennel to feed them all. They may have to switch to parsley.

      Those Mexican sunflower stems break so easily. Maybe you can start some more, or you might find seedlings come up around by the two you lost. Maybe you’ll get some Monarchs in the fall during migration.

    I got a visit from my first spicebush swallowtail today! My red pentas are still going strong and brought her in. Everything else seems to need a second wind.

      I imagine it is. Fortunately our heat has high humidity which brings regular rain, most of the time.

    Hello
    😊😊 Do you have any Ruddy Daggerwings visiting your garden?
    They like fruit and the larvae eat Strangler Fig. They esp like nectaring on Seagrape and the males will come to White Coral Tree or Cestrus diurnum
