I actually think the Jersey Devil is just a Northern Fence Lizard that either got experimented on or got incredibly mutated due to radiation or some contamination in the Pine Barrens. The Northern Fence Lizard is native to the New Jersey Pine Barrens and while the females and juveniles are more muted in color the males sometime are a brick red color like the adult Jersey Devil.

I did have a idea I always wanted added to fallout 76, what if they added Arizona walkers (don’t wanna say their full name) like what if this cryptid actually mimics a players appearance and can appear at Camps or can take the appearance of normally passive creatures

When I was playing F76 and going through that horrible swamp area, I had no idea cryptids actually existed in the game, so when I saw two extremely bright red eyes staring at me from between trees in the foggy distance I shit my pants. They disappeared but man I was constantly looking around me after that lol

Not gonna lie, Bethesda Embracing the Cryptid Craze of the East Coast is one of the best things about Fallout 76. I always love cryptids and it kinda adds to the more "irradiated wasteland". Shoutout to my boy mothman.
@@DankyKang96 They're inspired by real-life myths and legends of the area the game takes place in, for one, and several of them are confirmed to be mutated creatures or even humans, so they don't break the lore, either. If anything, the Fallout franchise has always had this sort of thing, given how Aliens and their tech have appeared since 1 and 2. I feel like the addition of Cryptids is more of a Fallout type of thing to do than people talk about.

There's endless possibilities for wtf could be out in the wasteland, so ofc people would start believing in things that haven't been seen yet, or someone saw something no one else did. That's how a cryptid gains the cryptid status. So yes, the cryptids do bring a lot to the wasteland. Just because you can't accept changes doesn't mean changes aren't good.
Gonna disagree personally. I hope for future full titles that any Cryptids will be sparse and extremely minimal. Not only does the keep it more mysterious, I feel it's better to keep things less other worldly and original. Deathclaws originally started as Fallouts own cryptid. You'd only meet a couple in game after hearing a few people mention them and even fewer believing they exist. Where are the centaurs and Wanamingos? I'm happy they finally brought back floaters even if their new models are off... (I haven't/won't play 76).

Have a solitary Mothman feature in a side quest or something like that, but in 76 I do almost see it as a testing ground for new creature concepts. Not sure if Wannamingos would qualify as Cryptids btw as they had confirmed sightings and a pretty well documented conflict with the Redding labourers (assuming that's what you meant, correct me if not).

It is still wild to me that out of everything Fallout 76 got wrong, it still gave us the most accurate depiction of the Wendigo in pop culture so far. Not only in its physical appearance, but the themes behind the legend. Such as the dangers of human greed and selfishness as well as the importance of moderation.
As a WV resident, I love that they kept our real world lore for most of the cryptids. It's especially cool they added a whole family of Mothman since he's our most well known. Loved they added all these to the series.
The one cryptid that I hate the most is the Wendigo. Man that thing creeps me out. It’s a great challenge on early levels but wow it’s vicious. On the upside they do drop a LOT of steel, screws, & springs on that Colossus wendigo boss fight.
For me they are the most annoying cryptids, mostly doe to me having done the Collosal Problem event trillions of time. At least their teeth is a good source for ácid.
One of my favorite moments in the game was fighting a wendigo in a cave wearing power armor, armed with a double barrel shotgun. It’s agility meant it was hard to get a hit on it, but I ended up getting a crit on its head, causing it to stagger backwards and I proceeded to unload on it afterwards.
I had to go to lewisberg for a couple quests and I had the bright idea to shoot at one. I will never forget its face as it was rushing towards me, ghouls flanking me from both sides. I just now started (level 22 now) and I already want to stop 😭😭😭
Years ago traveling across Texas I stopped into a Truckstop for some gas and food. They had a collection of "Jackalopes" mounted on the walls. I soon discovered many Cryptids along RT 66 to California.
What’s crazy is that it took like 2 or 3 years for me to first see a flat woods monster and a mothman, it makes it feel all the cooler that they’re pretty rare in game😅
My first mothman encounter in this new playthrough was pretty early on. First week or so. My most recent flat woods monster first encounter was it just randomly appearing at a player's base an attacking me lmao
Hehe, my camp is by the river directly West from Bolton Greens, and every now and then when I FT to my camp, Beckett is glowing purple and I know I have a rare visitor nearby.
I believe the Smiling Man was also referring to the new Main Quest. One of Russos mentioned that Taking the Devil's Blood makes you feel like you are dancing with the devil, but if you stop, it will tear them apart. (it is also a Tim Burton's Batman Reference). Better the devil you know (Blue Devil), than The Devil you Don't well...Not Yet anyway (The Jersey Devil). And yes, i was happier not knowing the Jersey Devil existed. Theory: Ingrid Cold is a Showman. (The Coat is a dead give away since no one dresses like that unless they're from Atlantic City). Mother has a thing about being fake, and Ingram is no fake or is he? His acting skills are superb as a phenom, by the dialogue, it sounds like he knew you, or has cold read you, like as though he was watching. But it could be all a facade. Mother has a pet peeve about every show being realistic as possible with no gimmicks. What if Steven Scarberry is Ingram Cold just a wide grin and make-up. We normally don't get allies like these, but there is a possibility, but then again that is like saying, we never see Katherine Swan and The Mistress of Mystery in the same room. The disappearing act he did on us when we attacked does indeed look like the mothman ability. And maybe that part is true, he obtained it through the encounter of its hatchlings, or maybe it is Scarberry just hiding his ability (since we can't really attack allies) from us to mislead us that he is not Ingrid Cold. Just your mild manner Mothman Cultist. Scarberry was spared for a reason, maybe being bitten from a Radioactive Mothman can do that to a person (if so, gimme that mutation). Being spared is a rush and he may not know he was bitten or introduced to a disease/mutation.
There is an entry in the game that speak of a patient that travelled with a group of responders and disappeared. One terminal at the Whitespring Refuge, added in the Expeditions: The Pitt update, may have been foreshadowing the Smiling Man. Purportedly, a catatonic patient was left with the Responders by a passing figure only identified as "Bob." People repeatedly mentioned feeling cold around this unmoving patient, until the night he suddenly disappeared. Nobody saw the patient depart or formally discharged him. A second commentator immediately criticized the report as a "ghost story."
As a West Virginian, I personally pronounce monongahela as “Monun-Gale-Leah” I see people out of state pronounce Kanawha county as “Can-a-wha”, but we pronounce it “Kuh-Naw” where the states capital city lies.
I remember researching Kanawha for a different video and reading about the pronunciation being so different depending on location lol do you find that with a lot of names of places?

There was a cut cryptid referred to as the Grief Gobbler. A cut quest was to involve us hunting down the beast, only to encounter a deathclaw, hermit crab, sheepsquache, etc. After the fight, it would be revealed that this beast was not the one the individual was talking about before a guttural growl would be heard in the distance, causing the NPC to flee. It was to be a Wanamingo, designed to be more frog-like with two sets of legs instead of the xenomorph style of its original design or the cut concept two legged large mouth for another fallout title. Lore wise it would be possible as its genetic doomsday timer wouldn’t have gone off yet that would’ve killed off any surviving specimens.
Oh god, imagine that they only appear near your campsite, like if you're in a building that you made they just wait outside the front door or something and ask to be let in, or for directions to somewhere.
11:00 I always thought that if they ever wanted to have a slightly more accurate Snallygaster, they could use the giant vulture pinned to Seneca Rocks as an "Alpha Snallygaster"
Honestly that creature is more similar to the stories. Not saying I mind though, I do like the snallygaster concept they went with. I was kind of hoping they would one day add those vultures as a type of Thunderbird cryptid.
Cryptids made 76 sooooo entertaining! I loved all the lore they added to the environment. I hope all Fallout games going forward have their respective regional cryptids! And I hope 76 has a few more as well, still waiting for the vegetable man...

i didnt play fallout 76 since launch until recently. im very impressed with the amount of stuff theyve added. the cryptids being one of my favorites. your video gave me some great details that ive missed in my absence of the game!
I've played 76 awhile and killed so many Snallygasters, but never noticed they were covered in eyes. I'd say Morris is probably the progenitor of all wendigo we see throughout Appalachia because even if Earle became one first, he was stuck in the mine. Though there is also another conflicting wendigo, Nia.
The smiling man’s query about dancing under blue moon light is also a play off jack nicholson’s quote as the joker to Michael Keaton “have you ever danced under the pale moonlight”
I really hope the next mainline game keeps the concept of Cryptids in the game as the designers do such a good job and it is so cool to see their take on the cryptids!
I think the type of dog the Blue Devil was born from was actually a Grey Hound. As the entry says, they have grey, nearly blue hair at times, and that fits grey hounds. Not only that, but grey hounds were racing dogs often used in games of chance like betting on horses. I'm unsure how the fighting part came in, but they are very BIG dogs and I could see their speed and size being used to great effect in a dog fight, if someone were cruel enough to engage in that kind of thing. That's just my two bits though.

The cryptids are one of the .ain't things that keeps me enjoying 76. I'm a huge nut off the game. Scary stories every night at bedtime. Great video my fellow survivor 💪
All the actual cryptids, aside from aliens, exist only in Fallout 76. I'm more convinced than ever that 76 is a simulation, using the hypothetical Scorched plague as the basic premise, then adding wasteland mutations and factions to see how it all plays out. The cryptids are theoretical mutations of various creatures combined with local cryptid mythology. No one else in the Fallout universe has heard anything about burgeoning settlements in West Virginia where major factions compete and nukes are constantly dropped because it doesn't actually exist. Even the brotherhood of steel, who apparently have a major force there, have no records of any of this occurring. It's a Tranquility Lane or Operation Anchorage on a larger scale.
Such amazing lore for the cryptids in Fallout. I was actually surprised about the Snallygaster being originally human, but it makes sense as FEV was involved in its creation.
In Native American lore, they're people who succumbed to greed or weakness of the mind and went insane. Various Indigenous traditions consider windigos dangerous because of their thirst for blood and their ability to infect otherwise healthy people or communities with evil. They're more or less cautionary tales about isolation and greed.
Awesome video. I will say, given that it's mentioned that the blue devil precursors were used for racing, I'm inclined to say that they were actually Greyhounds rather than German Shepherds.
So when this note first went live we all jumped on it straight away as Greyhounds. But then a dev said to pay particular attention to the order 'first for racing then for fighting' like we were incorrect. And technically Greyhounds were bred for coursing/hunting first and then racing. No fighting... so yeah still open-ended but it's eating away at me lol. I really want to know what it was!!!
I can see that Squonk being some sort of docile creature that could appear in the game. Maybe it’s apart of an event to help the sad creature find another of its kind while trying to protect it from predators.
Id like to point out that there are 2 different types of grafton monsters, one with human finger nails, and one without. Along with the enclave not understanding some of the snallygasters they capture, which doesnt make sense since they had their hands on it before the bombs. As well as the fact there were wendigo before the war, which means radiation wasnt its ENTIRE changing factor. Another thing you should've included with the ogua is that they tracked it BACK to WV, and it came from the bottom south eastern side
Loved the video but you did actually forget one. The thunder bird is a confirmed cryptid in fallout 76 hanging speared in a rock wall in the southern regions of the map.
I have speculated before that it could be a reference to the thunderbird but I'm not sure if its been 100% confirmed anywhere. I hope so, would love to see more pop up. Thanks for checking the video too btw!
One cryptid you missed was the creature with the glowing red eyes in Far Harbor. Hardest boss in the series, that one is. I think the Smiling Man saying "Ever dance with the devil under a blue moon?" Is meant to be a reference to the Tim Burton Batman movie, in which the Joker said a very similar question
I'm wondering if they'll add something like bloody Mary or sirens, though i don't know if they are Cryptids it would still be kinda cool for a monster to attack you from a mirror or an npc to lure you in then attack qnd reveal their siren form
Sirens I could definitely see being added with how dangerous oceans are, I imagine maybe a mutanted sea lion or something that could be heard while walking on a coast or something
Funny enough, i had an interesting encounter with the smiling man during fashnaut as he managed to turn hostile and attack me and friends with a veriety of weapons he could pick up
My Theory about the Blue Devil: maybe its Ancestors were Wolfdogs or some other Hybrid. Some Hybrids grow way bigger than their Parent Species. Maybe it became a Trend in the later Decades to breed those for racing and then when the Ressource Wars started, their Potential for the Battlefield was discovered 🤔
If they do add a Loch Ness Monster type then maybe the game might take us to the Chesapeake Bay. Out here there’s a cryptid known as Chessie, the Chesapeake bay monster, which is basically just Nessie but local
I'm convinced Snallygasters are prototype centaurs, and if they ever make tactics non ambiguous cannon Blue devils and Sheepsquatch might be what we call in the future a hairy deathclaw
Thank you for the amazing video. If I had better internet I'd pick up 76 just for the cryptids, but seeing as I live in WV that probably won't happen for a while lol. I really like how there's a good mix of genuine cryptids and traditional Fallout scifi wackiness involved here with FEV outbreaks and Zetan shenanigans while also having actual legit Mothman cults and eldritch entities with no clear origin. It really adds an authentic charm to the world building like that.
The squonk cries because of how ugly it is. It’s said that if you allow one to touch you, you turn into one. It’s also said they only travel when it’s dark and cloudy for fear that if they travel while the moon is visible, they might catch a glimpse of how ugly it is in a moonlit pool.

The version of the Jersey devil’s origin I heard was that a woman had given birth to 12 children and if she had a 13th it would be the devil himself, and the child was born, what was at first a normal child, it developed cloven hooves, a goats head, and the wings of a bat, that’s as far as I can remember.

Honestly Fallout 76 introduction of cryptids imo is the best part of 76 and really shows underrated the world building is. Like don’t get me wrong New Vegas is a great game but the cryptids are much more cooler and more interesting than any of New Vegas factions. Cryptids make the works feel more mysterious, more post apocalyptic and give off a better retro futuristic vibe because of how much the legends get expanded upon. Like not only is it fun to theorize about cryptids but it gives an otherworldly almost lovecraftian vibe to the series that doesn’t have a hard scientific or mystic explanation. Like is the Mothman a radiated moth, are they mythical entities, are they aliens, etc?

Definitely. They have this sort of unknown factor where we don't know if they're from pre war, or just more common since the world ended. I would love for them to be a regular part of the next single player games. Like, if the next single player game were in Louisiana they could have a whole quest about the swamp ape and the Rougarou. Or if it's in the southwest they could have stuff about the Chupacabra and the Thunderbird, etc.

I was unfortunate enough to encounter the Flatwoods monster really early in playthrough of FO76, I was just trying to reach a relay tower when it popped out of nowhere and 2 shot me. When I returned to grab my stuff it was gone.

As a WV resident, I love that they kept our real world lore for most of the cryptids. It's especially cool they added a whole family of Mothman since he's our most well known.
Loved they added all these to the series.
The one cryptid that I hate the most is the Wendigo. Man that thing creeps me out. It’s a great challenge on early levels but wow it’s vicious. On the upside they do drop a LOT of steel, screws, & springs on that Colossus wendigo boss fight.
Yeah you get something decent back for taking those down!
Yeah man. Sometimes I drop a nuke just to harvest screws. Well, did. When I had fallout 1st. Not enough room now.
For me they are the most annoying cryptids, mostly doe to me having done the Collosal Problem event trillions of time. At least their teeth is a good source for ácid.
One of my favorite moments in the game was fighting a wendigo in a cave wearing power armor, armed with a double barrel shotgun.
It’s agility meant it was hard to get a hit on it, but I ended up getting a crit on its head, causing it to stagger backwards and I proceeded to unload on it afterwards.
I had to go to lewisberg for a couple quests and I had the bright idea to shoot at one. I will never forget its face as it was rushing towards me, ghouls flanking me from both sides.
I just now started (level 22 now) and I already want to stop 😭😭😭
Years ago traveling across Texas I stopped into a Truckstop for some gas and food. They had a collection of "Jackalopes" mounted on the walls. I soon discovered many Cryptids along RT 66 to California.
Jackalopes are fake tho

What’s crazy is that it took like 2 or 3 years for me to first see a flat woods monster and a mothman, it makes it feel all the cooler that they’re pretty rare in game😅
I've played on and off since the first week, and I've seen a few random mothmans, and only 2 random flatwood monsters.
My first mothman encounter in this new playthrough was pretty early on. First week or so. My most recent flat woods monster first encounter was it just randomly appearing at a player's base an attacking me lmao
Hehe, my camp is by the river directly West from Bolton Greens, and every now and then when I FT to my camp, Beckett is glowing purple and I know I have a rare visitor nearby.
I believe the Smiling Man was also referring to the new Main Quest. One of Russos mentioned that Taking the Devil's Blood makes you feel like you are dancing with the devil, but if you stop, it will tear them apart. (it is also a Tim Burton's Batman Reference).
Better the devil you know (Blue Devil), than The Devil you Don't well...Not Yet anyway (The Jersey Devil). And yes, i was happier not knowing the Jersey Devil existed.
Theory: Ingrid Cold is a Showman. (The Coat is a dead give away since no one dresses like that unless they're from Atlantic City). Mother has a thing about being fake, and Ingram is no fake or is he? His acting skills are superb as a phenom, by the dialogue, it sounds like he knew you, or has cold read you, like as though he was watching. But it could be all a facade. Mother has a pet peeve about every show being realistic as possible with no gimmicks. What if Steven Scarberry is Ingram Cold just a wide grin and make-up. We normally don't get allies like these, but there is a possibility, but then again that is like saying, we never see Katherine Swan and The Mistress of Mystery in the same room. The disappearing act he did on us when we attacked does indeed look like the mothman ability. And maybe that part is true, he obtained it through the encounter of its hatchlings, or maybe it is Scarberry just hiding his ability (since we can't really attack allies) from us to mislead us that he is not Ingrid Cold. Just your mild manner Mothman Cultist. Scarberry was spared for a reason, maybe being bitten from a Radioactive Mothman can do that to a person (if so, gimme that mutation). Being spared is a rush and he may not know he was bitten or introduced to a disease/mutation.
He’s somewhat reminiscent of the G-Man, especially with the way he speaks.
There is an entry in the game that speak of a patient that travelled with a group of responders and disappeared.
One terminal at the Whitespring Refuge, added in the Expeditions: The Pitt update, may have been foreshadowing the Smiling Man. Purportedly, a catatonic patient was left with the Responders by a passing figure only identified as "Bob." People repeatedly mentioned feeling cold around this unmoving patient, until the night he suddenly disappeared. Nobody saw the patient depart or formally discharged him. A second commentator immediately criticized the report as a "ghost story."
Also that name is based on a spooky Indrid Cold phone call from The Mothman Prophecies (2002) movie with actor Richard Gere. Watch the movie.
As a West Virginian, I personally pronounce monongahela as “Monun-Gale-Leah” I see people out of state pronounce Kanawha county as “Can-a-wha”, but we pronounce it “Kuh-Naw” where the states capital city lies.
I remember researching Kanawha for a different video and reading about the pronunciation being so different depending on location lol do you find that with a lot of names of places?

There was a cut cryptid referred to as the Grief Gobbler. A cut quest was to involve us hunting down the beast, only to encounter a deathclaw, hermit crab, sheepsquache, etc. After the fight, it would be revealed that this beast was not the one the individual was talking about before a guttural growl would be heard in the distance, causing the NPC to flee. It was to be a Wanamingo, designed to be more frog-like with two sets of legs instead of the xenomorph style of its original design or the cut concept two legged large mouth for another fallout title. Lore wise it would be possible as its genetic doomsday timer wouldn’t have gone off yet that would’ve killed off any surviving specimens.
Black eye children would be a creepy addition to Fallout
Oh god, imagine that they only appear near your campsite, like if you're in a building that you made they just wait outside the front door or something and ask to be let in, or for directions to somewhere.
11:00 I always thought that if they ever wanted to have a slightly more accurate Snallygaster, they could use the giant vulture pinned to Seneca Rocks as an "Alpha Snallygaster"
Honestly that creature is more similar to the stories. Not saying I mind though, I do like the snallygaster concept they went with. I was kind of hoping they would one day add those vultures as a type of Thunderbird cryptid.

Cryptids made 76 sooooo entertaining! I loved all the lore they added to the environment. I hope all Fallout games going forward have their respective regional cryptids! And I hope 76 has a few more as well, still waiting for the vegetable man...

i didnt play fallout 76 since launch until recently. im very impressed with the amount of stuff theyve added. the cryptids being one of my favorites. your video gave me some great details that ive missed in my absence of the game!
I've played 76 awhile and killed so many Snallygasters, but never noticed they were covered in eyes.
I'd say Morris is probably the progenitor of all wendigo we see throughout Appalachia because even if Earle became one first, he was stuck in the mine. Though there is also another conflicting wendigo, Nia.

I think the type of dog the Blue Devil was born from was actually a Grey Hound. As the entry says, they have grey, nearly blue hair at times, and that fits grey hounds. Not only that, but grey hounds were racing dogs often used in games of chance like betting on horses. I'm unsure how the fighting part came in, but they are very BIG dogs and I could see their speed and size being used to great effect in a dog fight, if someone were cruel enough to engage in that kind of thing. That's just my two bits though.
Yep, they were used in dogfighting too sadly. Not sure how he didn't realise racing was literal.

All the actual cryptids, aside from aliens, exist only in Fallout 76. I'm more convinced than ever that 76 is a simulation, using the hypothetical Scorched plague as the basic premise, then adding wasteland mutations and factions to see how it all plays out. The cryptids are theoretical mutations of various creatures combined with local cryptid mythology.
No one else in the Fallout universe has heard anything about burgeoning settlements in West Virginia where major factions compete and nukes are constantly dropped because it doesn't actually exist. Even the brotherhood of steel, who apparently have a major force there, have no records of any of this occurring. It's a Tranquility Lane or Operation Anchorage on a larger scale.
Let's hope so.
Such amazing lore for the cryptids in Fallout. I was actually surprised about the Snallygaster being originally human, but it makes sense as FEV was involved in its creation.
So are Wendigos people who consumed human flesh before undergoing ghoulification or something like that?
It definitely seems to be a combination of different factors. The greed of consuming more flesh in particular seems unique to them.
In Native American lore, they're people who succumbed to greed or weakness of the mind and went insane.
Various Indigenous traditions consider windigos dangerous because of their thirst for blood and their ability to infect otherwise healthy people or communities with evil. They're more or less cautionary tales about isolation and greed.
I’m 99% sure the Ogua is a misidentified Alligator Snapping Turtle. Yes that’s a real turtle, and yes they are enormous.
Awesome video. I will say, given that it's mentioned that the blue devil precursors were used for racing, I'm inclined to say that they were actually Greyhounds rather than German Shepherds.
So when this note first went live we all jumped on it straight away as Greyhounds. But then a dev said to pay particular attention to the order 'first for racing then for fighting' like we were incorrect. And technically Greyhounds were bred for coursing/hunting first and then racing. No fighting... so yeah still open-ended but it's eating away at me lol. I really want to know what it was!!!

I think the Sheepsquatch were FEV tested sheep, as you can find a tag on their ear akin to actual farm sheep.
I can see that Squonk being some sort of docile creature that could appear in the game. Maybe it’s apart of an event to help the sad creature find another of its kind while trying to protect it from predators.
I love the mothmen. The scorched one caught me completely by surprise in a brotherhood quest and the equinox event is one of my favourites.
I really hope they come out with even more Cryptids, it's by far my favorite addition to the world building in Fallout.
Id like to point out that there are 2 different types of grafton monsters, one with human finger nails, and one without. Along with the enclave not understanding some of the snallygasters they capture, which doesnt make sense since they had their hands on it before the bombs. As well as the fact there were wendigo before the war, which means radiation wasnt its ENTIRE changing factor. Another thing you should've included with the ogua is that they tracked it BACK to WV, and it came from the bottom south eastern side
Just to note, the Ogua looks more like an alligator snapping turtle than it does a common snapping turtle.... Related but not quite so.
I hope fallout 5 would have some of the creatures from fallout 76 and the furniture, weapons, armor and other stuff
Loved the video but you did actually forget one. The thunder bird is a confirmed cryptid in fallout 76 hanging speared in a rock wall in the southern regions of the map.
I have speculated before that it could be a reference to the thunderbird but I'm not sure if its been 100% confirmed anywhere. I hope so, would love to see more pop up. Thanks for checking the video too btw!

One cryptid you missed was the creature with the glowing red eyes in Far Harbor. Hardest boss in the series, that one is.

Okay, I had never seen the Jersey Devil in this game until I watched your video, and holy mother of god, that thing is truly the stuff of nightmares.
I'm wondering if they'll add something like bloody Mary or sirens, though i don't know if they are Cryptids it would still be kinda cool for a monster to attack you from a mirror or an npc to lure you in then attack qnd reveal their siren form
Sirens I could definitely see being added with how dangerous oceans are, I imagine maybe a mutanted sea lion or something that could be heard while walking on a coast or something

My Theory about the Blue Devil: maybe its Ancestors were Wolfdogs or some other Hybrid. Some Hybrids grow way bigger than their Parent Species.
Maybe it became a Trend in the later Decades to breed those for racing and then when the Ressource Wars started, their Potential for the Battlefield was discovered 🤔

Well west teks FEV experiments made the snallygaster, super mutants, centaurs and Grafton monsters. And probably other things too.
I'm actually thinking that the sheepsquatch and the Blue Devil are genetic spliced combinations of the death claw and other animals

I really like how there's a good mix of genuine cryptids and traditional Fallout scifi wackiness involved here with FEV outbreaks and Zetan shenanigans while also having actual legit Mothman cults and eldritch entities with no clear origin. It really adds an authentic charm to the world building like that.

The squonk cries because of how ugly it is. It’s said that if you allow one to touch you, you turn into one. It’s also said they only travel when it’s dark and cloudy for fear that if they travel while the moon is visible, they might catch a glimpse of how ugly it is in a moonlit pool.

The Flatwoods Monster almost instantly became my new favorite Fallout creature upon first seeing it. Zetans are the best.

The version of the Jersey devil’s origin I heard was that a woman had given birth to 12 children and if she had a 13th it would be the devil himself, and the child was born, what was at first a normal child, it developed cloven hooves, a goats head, and the wings of a bat, that’s as far as I can remember.

The bat and blue devil being in the same location definitely gave me Skyrim flashbacks.

Honestly Fallout 76 introduction of cryptids imo is the best part of 76 and really shows underrated the world building is.
Like don’t get me wrong New Vegas is a great game but the cryptids are much more cooler and more interesting than any of New Vegas factions.
Cryptids make the works feel more mysterious, more post apocalyptic and give off a better retro futuristic vibe because of how much the legends get expanded upon.
Like not only is it fun to theorize about cryptids but it gives an otherworldly almost lovecraftian vibe to the series that doesn’t have a hard scientific or mystic explanation.
Like is the Mothman a radiated moth, are they mythical entities, are they aliens, etc?
Agreed mate. Personally I also find the mothman the most interesting long term because of the conflict between the different cults/coloured eyed mothmen.
Definitely. They have this sort of unknown factor where we don't know if they're from pre war, or just more common since the world ended. I would love for them to be a regular part of the next single player games. Like, if the next single player game were in Louisiana they could have a whole quest about the swamp ape and the Rougarou. Or if it's in the southwest they could have stuff about the Chupacabra and the Thunderbird, etc.

I was unfortunate enough to encounter the Flatwoods monster really early in playthrough of FO76, I was just trying to reach a relay tower when it popped out of nowhere and 2 shot me. When I returned to grab my stuff it was gone.
