Consider that the "plague" that forced Vault 33 to lock down was simply a convenient excuse to lock the inhabitants in their quarters so that Hank and Betty could go after Hank's wife and then blow up Shady Sands without the inhabitants of Vault 33 noticing Hank leaving and re-entering the vault. They then told the inhabitants of 33 that Hank's wife died from the plague. Any other inhabitants of Vault 33 that died from the "plague" could have been the ones that helped Hank's wife escape the vault.
Just saying since it would be pretty convenient that a "plague" hit the vault at the exact time that would make it convenient for Hank to come and go from the vault without being noticed.

a couple of things to help tied the date down is lucy. We know how old she is during her marriage interview and we know she was in shady sand prior to them being nuke. she was also young enough to not have clear memory of the event. so am guessing she must had been between the age of 3 to 6 roughly. Maximus is another clue as we see him as a young boy after it was drop being rescue. those clue tell me it was fairly recent but not too recent maybe slightly more then 10 years prior but not beyond 15 i would think.

@14:00 It is said by Muldaver that Lucy's mother lived in Shady Sands for a time. Perhaps the quarantine happened in 2277 to excuse her disappearance/leaving the vault, but not her death and the bombing. She lived on the surface for those 4 years. I agree with Tim. What if sometime between 2161 and 2281 (FO1 visit to Shady Sands vs supposed bombing) Shady Sands had to relocate closer to LA?
He said there has always been a history of unreliable narrators in Fallout. I usually associate that style more with the Elder Scrolls property, but it could just be that our unreliable narrators are never countered by more reliable ones at any point in Fallout. In my eyes, Vault-Tec didn't drop the bombs because the Ghoul guy would've get a warning before it (due to his wife) and House would have the Platinum Chip in time before they were dropped. In other words, they wanted to do it but China did it first.
Addendum: Megaton's bomb does not have Vault-tec's logo on it, it's a similar shape with a different design and the only reason people think they're the same is because of the scuffed textures of FO3.
The Ghoul also got divorced, yes, but what about his daughter? No way his ex-wife would've left her own daughter to die if she knew when the bombs dropped.

I believe vault tec dropped the bomb but gave everyone a vague timeline to beat out their competition. House was probably the only one seeing the double cross coming but his contingencies weren't in place yet. As for Cooper not getting a warning it could be because his relationship was over some of the guests at the party were talking about how he was already separated. Season 2 will probably elaborate on it more but I do believe vault tec dropped the bomb.

Why is it that ppl just immediately assumed that the entirety of NCR is gone because of one city being lost ? I’m pretty sure that NCR have a few dozen region and cities that they still owns and that the NCR is still there, hell it’s very much possible that the destruction of the capital city is a major morale blow to the ncr that the higher ups decided to keep ot under wraps and this decision does not sit well with moldaver that she decided to just go awol and start recruiting anyone including raiders in order to enact revenge, a sentiment I’m pretty sure the shady sands survivors agreed and supports her while some people just doesn’t want to get involved with her like the lead farmers

They were still there until last episode^^... its written "NCR headquarters" on an entrance in the last base, supposing it's the remain of at least a large part of the NCR army (and they are not a lot, like few hundreds). There's also some civilians and also some crops in this base and that would make sense Moldaver put installations for cold fusion in the most secure base of NCR. The inhabitants from Vault 4 are partly Shady Sands refugees and Moldaver worshippers, she is NCR leader but maybe she became so after those events. I have the feeling those followers didn't heard of Moldaver since the shady sands bombings and make her a godlike/savior figure. There is a ncr flag in the classroom but looks like an antic for history class. So i not even sure Vault 4 is aligned with NCR. There's also a lot of women soldiers and poorly equipped troops in the NCR last battle, we don't see much of the famous NCR uniforms, some rangers armors are worn by scavengers, like to foreshadowing rangers are a thing from the past. The NCR is still there but have been severely crippled it seems. Most probably (considereing the end of last episode) NCR don't have New Vegas region and brotherhood conquered filly. With the brotherhood putting hand on cold fusion it will be very hard time for the remains of the NCR. But i agree with you even if a bomb greatly destroyed Shady Sands NCR seems to have face other problems to become so weak. Maybe a long war with the brotherhood? as we see an armored guy finding Maximus.

The enclave had a big grip on my attention. In fallout 3, they tried domesticating death claws with headsets, leading to mixed results. They didn’t mess around with east coast super mutants all that much, but seeing super mutants and seeing training done on dogs has me believing their gonna not only learning how to control super mutants, but perhaps modifying FEV to better work in their favor like they did with Frank Horrigan. If the Curling variant of the virus didn’t work, maybe controlling and gearing up mutants to fill their ranks would do much better. Just imagine the brotherhood of steel are consolidating their new power in cold fusion, and on the horizon, they see vertibirds, thinking it’s another of their forces, only to be fired upon. After doing a considerable amount of damage, the enclave disembark the birds, and to the horror of the BOD, they not only see soldiers in X-01 power armor, but charging super mutants, armored head to toe.

Ghouls would never reveal that to smoothskins because it would make them an even bigger target as the threat of them turning would be more dire.

Taking the Hover Dam was supposed to satisfy the NCR's power needs, and the House ending has House saying he'll sell electricity to the NCR (and that he needs the NCR as customers for the Strip). So, with power being the Holy Grail on the show, assuming the New Vegas endings are still relevant, only the Legion or Yes Man endings could have occurred.

The ending of the NV game doesn't necessarily dictate if the current state of New Vegas is successful or not. If shady sands can be fuckin nuked, then i'd say they aren't treating player-character successes as permanent fixes to the wasteland.
ON THAT NOTE THOUGH, because of the timing of this series taking place only like 20-ish years after New Vegas took place, and seeing that we are returning to New Vegas, we likely WILL actually see very definitive answers as to the courier canonical influence on the world. They'd be fools to actually have the courier show up in the show on-screen (as the player characters should ALWAYS be left vague as far as their gender/appearance/etc), but we very well COULD see some of our other favorite characters from the game. 100% no doubt at least ONE of the followers from the game will show up at some point.

If that was the case, then why would Barb, an extremely high level Vault-Tec executive considering she was at that meeting, let her daughter be out at a birthday party on the day the Great War happened? Not to mention other details throughout the games such as the unfinished vaults and the fact the Enclave were caught off guard. Considering that also, the ambiguity of who started the great war has long been kept a series mystery, and it also just makes for better writing, it's more than likely Vault Tec didn't actually start the Great War and were caught off guard, possibly because the US did much better than expected and backed China to far into a corner.

My guess is that Vault-Tec intended to "drop the bombs" but got caught off guard when China struck first. It is also possible that Vault-Tec dropped more bombs after the first salvos between China and the US, and it is also possible that Vault-Tec didn't actually drop bombs themselves but controlled geopolitics behind the scenes in such a way that China/US would use them eventually.

Its a game mechanic, and not any indication on the lore, they just needed to keep you from using the PA all the time, from the beginning, so they introduced depletable fusion cores. It wouldve made more sense if you could drain the charge from another fusion core, and mr gutsies, having been active since the war, would barely have any charge left, and sentries, since they are in "sleep" mode until the alarm is set, would have a higher charge. I just dont know the "science" behind it, so just draining the charge from another fusion core and adding it to the one you have inside the PA wouldnt make sense either.

Consider this: Sentry Bots are heavily armored, while Mr. Handy's really aren't. It's not unreasonable to suggest that the cores from Mr. Handy's are unsalvageable because the damage required to kill one usually destroyed the core in the process.

One aspect of the new lore drops in the TV series that interests me is that there are many things we are told but not shown, which in many other stories is a symptom of bad storytelling BUT in this case could be seen as deliberate. After all, there are plenty of things we are shown rather than just told about, especially during the flashbacks. But then you look at things we are only told. Norma says that Vault-Tec could drop the bombs themselves but we have yet to actually see them do it. Moldaver says Hank nuked Shady Sands but, although he only somewhat denies her claims, we have yet to actually see him do it. We are told by the chalkboard that Shady Sands fell in 2277 but, again, we have yet to actually see the time and circumstances of its fall, only its result. What I'm getting at is that I think it's too soon to firmly establish the new state of the lore, as many of these events are likely to be shown/expanded upon in Season 2 and hopefully clear up any potential continuity errors and maybe provide some new twists along the way.

    • @Patson20

I'm certain that's on purpose, because we know maximus said when the bombs dropped, not bomb. And it's unlikely just nuking the NCR capital would end the NCR as a organization but a dozen would. And we know in lonesome road you have the option to nuke the NCR, and the time of lonesome road matches up when shady sands was nuked. We also know MR house was personally involved with the plan to drop the bomb, but that he was still caught by suprise by the war starting causing the platinum chip to not be delivered. So why would he be caught by suprise if VT was the one that started it? Because they fully intended to and someone beat them to it

Here’s my theory: Bud Askins may have been the brains (pun intended) behind the Tri-Vaults, but remember, that’s the JUNIOR executive program. What do you think happened to the SENIOR executives? Also: in the scene with all the big shots from all the companies, we see a bunch of shadowy figures sitting above the meeting (with one being focused on in particular). Are these the senior executives? Are they Enclave representatives? Who knows?
I also have a feeling that the Enclave and Vault-Tec had more dealings with each other than we previously thought. Given how much Wilzig knew about Vault 33, the fact that the cold fusion “battery” (that’s what I’m calling it) had Vault-Tec’s name on it, and Vault-Tec’s access to nukes (likely from Vault 76, as another comment pointed out), I think we could learn about a very lucrative dealing between both parties. Would be fascinating to see!

I can see the NCR beginning to decline after they won the first battle of Hoover Dam. Many NCR soldiers in fnv complain about how overextended they are, and Chief Hanlon says that the NCR was not careful in managing their freshwater reservoirs. If the NCR government and influence was driven out of the New Vegas region, then that would have been crippling for them. That OSI researcher at Camp McCarran said as much, that they needed to succeed in the New Vegas region in order to hold off future food shortages and mass starvation. One of the troopers at Camp Golf said that they only joined the military because otherwise their family wouldn't have had enough food to feed everyone, showing there was starvation occurring in the NCR.

The meeting between Vault-Tec and the other companies, in particular, shows both RepConn and RobCo which should date it to before RobCo buys RepConn in the early 2070s but then the appearances of Janey means that all the pre-war scenes are supposed to happen over only a year or less before the Great War.

    • @MeDicen_Rocha

As for Janey, I do agree that it does throw a pretty big wrench in the works, as it tightens the timeline a lot. What took place over 20 years according to the games, suddenly turned into one, maybe 2 years tops. Although it's also not unreasonable to think that Vault Tec only decided to "sublet" the vaults to other corporations way after they were built and allowed them to tamper with the vaults after construction. I mean, in the show we already see a defined map with the locations of all 122 vaults

    • @FadeRadio1
      @FadeRadio1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

It doesn't solidly confirm any single ending, but it does rule out a few. Since the Brotherhood survived, it can't be the institute or the Railroad ending. That leaves only the Brotherhood or Minute Men ending. I think logically they'll treat the Minute Men ending as the true canon (as they were clearly the main 'neutral' and completely player-lead faction after all) going forward, but they won't outright say so.
New Vegas is more vague, as there's no real 'default' feeling ending there. It's much more shades of grey than fallout 4 in that regard. Even with Todd stating that rule, they clearly already hinted towards the FO4 ending already, and considering how wildly successful and highly rated as this show has been, he may also be more willing than he initially was to give definitive answers to some degree. Obviously they'll need to still keep the most specific details vague (like the gender/appearance of the courier and whatnot), but since they are clearly hinting the second season taking place in New Vegas I simply can't see a way to avoid giving us an answer as to which ending is canon.
Ultimately, I think they're going to go with making the House ending canon, as they got the perfect actor to play house and showed him enough in the first season to suggest that they may want to have him show up again in the second, which couldn't really happen with any of the other endings than the House ending. They were also very careful to specifically have House be literally the ONLY member of the Vault-Tec meeting to not suggest an idea for a Vault experiment, which I feel was a subtle way to hint that wasn't actually there with the intent to buy a vault, but to gather information for his own plans was putting in place, which wouldn't really lead anywhere if he's dead for the second season.
Besides, you know what they say: The House always wins.

The 'Fall of Shady Sands' in 2277 likely refers to its political and economic decline and this would have been when the Hub became the new capital of the NCR. I bet its likely the first battle of Hoover Dam played a role here. The bombing of Shady Sands likely occured after 2281 and the best point of evidence is Maximus's age. Maximus appears to be 21 years old in 2296 (the year the show is set). How do we know this? Well there's two bits of evidence:
    1) The Brotherhood base in episode one is essentially a Military School where recruits are learning/training to become Squires. We see recruits as young as 12 but the ones who become Squires in the show appear to be between 18 to 21 years old. Maximus and the other recruits who become Squires, such as Dane and Thaddius, are essentially college-aged kids who have finished their education (i.e training) and are approved by the Clerics/Elders ready to aid Knights in their missions.
    2) The flashbacks of Maximus in the show when he survived the bombing of Shady Sands. Here, Maximus looks to be about 7 years old.
With these two points, its my belief that Maximus is 21 years old in 2296, making him born in 2275. This means the bombing of Shady Sands is likely 2282, one year after the events of FNV.

      @coleabrams4534 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The big issue with all of this is that the TV show is made to be enjoyed and, more importantly, coherent to people who know nothing about Fallout or its lore.
And any regular viewer would watch the show and see and hear the date 2277 several times in relation to Shady Sands. It would also be super confusing to newcomers if the show was stating that Shady Sands was actually in decline well before it got bombed. Especially since Hank called it competition worth bombing, and in the flashback it shows the city in a pretty advanced state.
As it stands the show gives no indication that the year 2277 should be wrong or a red herring at all. The most likely answer is that it is just a mistake. That being said, it does give just enough wiggle room to correct it in the future. So hopefully in the future season they clarify some points to make the time frame closer to what you suggested.

I know it's a bit of a take to have, but let's consider the events of fallout New Vegas more so as soft canon, the location exists, and had been teased a lot even in 76, but until we get some confirming events it should be a slow cautious look, because even the end titles confirms some more things, but is more to tease. And a wasteland story is something more to be molded into what peeks interest.
But the show did have something interesting in vault 4, Lake Lurks and what could either be trogs or tunnelers on the walls of the cryo chambers walls. This as a Easter egg is one thing, but given what the vault was doing then it might be safe to assume that those are experiments left to be let loose across the wastes. Maybe even transported to other locations.
But I will say this, screaming out For the Republic can mean more than just a clone trooper fighting some droids now

I agree with the soft cannon approach as well. Love the game but there is also many different endings in NV that it’s impossible to narrow down one. Especially when that outro of the Strip being destroyed could be anything. Not to mention that we don’t even know if that’s before or after the events we will see in season 2.
I look forward to seeing how it plays out in season 2 though. Hopefully we get another season true to the nature of the games!

I was legitimately shocked by how faithful the show is to the lore of the games it’s based on. I don’t know if I’m just blinded by how rare that is, but I have zero complaints about the show (related to respecting the source material, anyway). And where things diverge a bit, they don’t go too far, and they diverge in a way that makes sense for a show, or actually improve on the base lore. For example, i love the changes to the ghouls. In the games they were never consistent about them anyway. I also love that being a ghoul makes you much different than a human, unlike in the games where they’re either ugly humans or weak zombies.

Its him Vs a brain on a roomba. I think he might take his chances and maybe so some threatening of Bud's Buds. Cuz honestly all you have do is flip Bud over or something or even use him as a weapon. Something else to note is the changes with this Brotherhood chapter. I saw some people pointing out that they changed some of the words used with it feeling more deliberate. This chapter also feels much more barbaric with how often they say they will be executed. Same with the change of the banner to gold and red for the chapter. A very distinct color pallet in the series. Their names are also all roman names unlike the usual naming pattern of the Brotherhood. Another thing to note, there also isn't a single woman in the chapter to the point they're all sexually repressed. It leads one to believe this chapter is actually ran by a legion survivor/spy. With the Elder in the show even saying he wants to betray the greater Brotherhood.
